My Daddy told me before he passed..."I'll meet you there...at that river. I'll be waiting for you." He, my Mom and I were ALL baptized by the same preacher, in the same place, in a country lake, over a period of 25 years, as the same church family sang this song. When I hear it, I see that water...and I know Daddy's waiting just across on the other side. Lord, come quickly.
In 2014 I lost two daughters. One after surgery, one to bone cancer and because of the finished work of the cross, I can truly say, one glorious day, we shall all gather at that river, free of any sickness or death! Rev.21:4
I'm really sorry my dear, this is really sad. U can't even wish this to your worst enemy, may the almighty God give u all the strength. Yes will gather at the river @ #Eddie Shelton 🙏🙏

My 90 yr old mom with dementia has been singing this song for the past few months. Right now she is dying and I have this music on and she has a huge peaceful smile on her face. Thank you so much. This will be the song she will hum as she is reborn on the other side.
Katherine W. Your post touched me. Bless your heart. How beautiful for your precious Mom to cross over singing about the Lord. It is my hope that I too can hear these songs as I cross over. Thank you for sharing. My heartfelt prayers.
My Mom passed away in Dec 2010. Today would have been her birthday. I remember her and my Dad singing and loving this song. I, personally love this version of the song. Thanks for allowing me to share in her honor.
My best friend died a year and a half ago. He was only 45. We were die-hard Rams fans. He was a devout Christian and I'm a secular Jew. But I have always have loved this song and I sing it for Joe before I go to sleep once a week. Rams are back in Los Angeles, Joe. He passed on just 2 days before the official announcement by the NFL. But Joe is resting in peace and I remain good friends with his son, dad, and his sister. Yes, Joe, May the saints gather at the river.
The writer of this song during the Civil war in 1865, said he "wanted to write about the river of life, as so many songs had been witten about the river of death" Wow what blessed words..Praise Christ and his blessed name forever.
He said he wrote it after he had a vision of the throne of God, saying he saw a heavenly river while seeing Saints gathered there. He said the throne shined the brightest. Yet his mind also focused on the river.
My Grand Mother was passed on to be with the Lord last month. It hurts but 'soon our pilgrimage' will end & we all will be on the other shore......just to be with our Lord for ever & ever. Whatta redemption & whatta hope!!!
My brother in JESUS OUR LORD AND KING, past away (went Home) we had no internet so I sang this to him as best I could He could not talk, He wrote on his board that he and I would meet at the river. 3 hrs later he passed. THANK GOD FOR ALL OF YOU THAT MADE THIS POSSABLE! GOD IS GOD IN HEAVEN! SEE YOU THERE. GOD'S WILL, WILL BE DONE! WE LIVE AND DIE AT HIS COMAND. Thank you!
Darrell Bleazard, I am so sorry for your loss. How precious to have your brother communicate with you just before he passed. We will gather with the saints at the river !!!! Thank you Jesus !!!!
My Mom passed away last year in Nov 2012 and I'm missing her. But this song reminds me of the beautiful promise of Jesus' second coming. Beautiful version!! God bless you!!
Revelation 22:1 Then he showed me the river of living water, sparkling like crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb. WHAT A DAY THAT WILL BE !!!

I lost my dad May 1989. I was with him in the hospital day and night in the hospital where he gave his life to and died. At his death two angels came and took him away. My mum too, while passing away January 2011, in bed opened her eyes and said to our cousin,, "I have seen the Glory", waved at her and shot her eyes 'Shall we gather at the river???
Shall we gather at the river, Where bright angel feet have trod; With its crystal tide forever, Flowing by the throne of God? CHORUS Yes, we’ll gather at the river, The beautiful, The beautiful river; Gather with the saints at the river; That flows by the throne of God. On the margin of the river, Washing up its silver spray; We will walk and worship ever, All the happy golden day. Ere we reach the shining river; Lay we ev’ry burden down; Grace our spirits will deliver, And provide a robe and crown. Soon we’ll reach the shining river, Soon our pilgrimage will cease; Soon our happy hearts will quiver, With the melody of peace.
I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today (November 3, All Saints' Sunday), we sang this as the Hymn of the Day. Ditto for me as I played it at a local Lutheran Chuch that I filled in at as the Opening Hymn. It is #423 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship. And let us give thanks to the ones who have gone before us.
This song renews my faith and hope each day that i shall meet my bro who passed on in 2010 in his sleep at 22, my grandfather, my grandmom, all my relatives and friends who've gone on before, we shall meet again Praise Jesus!
What a blessed hope of Christians, it won,t be long until we shall see the Lord and all our loved ones in a better land. To God be the Glory. Amen. Peterson.
Many young Americans gave their life near the river Rhine in Arnhem, where the fighting was the heaviest, to set Holland free in WW2. We will never forget. Like Jesus gave His life to set us free. Thank God this world is temporary. Btw a musical pearl, this version.
Such a mellow folksy version of this powerful hymn, everyone working at their best and a star turn by Gordon at the piano. Not to mention that marvellous Irish whistle!
I love this song very much as it always gives me Hope and faith in Jesus that one day I will meet my mother whom I lost in 2013 after a 1week of illness. like others she left at a time I needed her most. Thank you the Bill Gloria and Gaither for that awesome performance.
With Christmas there was a huge fire in Ascencion Paraguay, meaning 'river streaming to the sea'. Now with Passover an earthquake on Ascencion Island. We will ascend soon and gather at the beautiful river that flows by the throne of God. Praise Jesus!
When i hear this song, i remember with my grand mother, i miss her.... and thanks for God, because i learn ABOUT YOU from her life. Learn bible, and accept jesus as my Lord and my saviour.

Lift their songs of saving grace.

Soon our pilgrimage will cease;
Soon our happy hearts will quiver
With the melody of peace.
