Wow!! Didn't know you were doing this mall...its one of my local malls. Used to be very busy. I love Tuttle Mall. So much nicer than Polaris Mall which isn't very nice and is outdated. Dirty. Needs updated badly. But this Mall still looks beautiful. Years ago I used to take my daughter here to the play area and to eat lunch and get cookies or pretzels at least twice a week. I hope it can make it through these hard times.

I went to the grand opening of this mall when it opened in 1997 when I was 13.
This mall was one of the first new malls of the late 90's early 2000s that was built in the more affluent areas of Columbus (Dublin,Oh). When this mall opened it was THE mall for a few years, until Easton (which was an outdoor style mall so compettion wasn't really high, and Easton was on the other side of Columbus) and Polaris, which probably took most of its thunder away and still to this day is the Premier shopping mall ( Polaris) along with Easton. Now, Tuttle is a shell of its former self, it's pretty depressing going through there.

On a whim, after seeing your videos about two other dead malls in places where I have lived (Cottonwood and Woodland) I decided to look up Tuttle, since my friends who still live in Ohio have told me it's really unfortunate these days. I went to high school in Dublin and graduated in 2000. I spent so much time at the mall when we moved to Ohio in 1998. I even worked at the Lazarus (now Macy's) in the mall for a while. I was even there not long before I moved away from Ohio in 2018. I went there to shop, to hang out with my friends, to go on dates, you name it. There are still so many stores in this video that I have been in and that I remember. It really sucks that it's turning into a dead mall, but it has so much competition from the bigger and more prestigious indoor mall, Polaris, and from Easton, which is the outside mall. Still so many memories ❤️.

I was working at Westland Mall when Tuttle was built and you could tell everyone was leaving to shop at the trendy new mall in Dublin. Rumor has it that Tuttle would only allow stores of a certain caliber as tenants...several years later they caved and shoved a Payless shoe store in the back corner on the second floor lol
Great memories of working here and lots of shopping trips!

You should come check the downtown Chatham centre in Chatham, Ontario once the border reopens, it's a 2 story mall and it only has a Dollarama, Fit4Less, Ardene, jewelry store, nail place, coffee shop, a small department store, cell phone case store, a Koodo and 2 other clothing stores, it's pretty much dead, you should come to Chatham once the border reopens and check it out. Same with the Bayside Mall in Sarnia

I've seen other Taubman malls with 2 elevators, in their center court. Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg had 2 elevators that looked the same as this mall, and too bad that set of Taubman elevators were removed when Simon did a renovation of Woodfield a few years ago. I'm glad Simon hasn't done a renovation here that took out a lot of the classic design Taubman look, as of now. But I do worry Simon might choose to do that, down the road. Fingers crossed they don't, myself.

City Center opened in 1989 and was developed by Taubman; it was very upscale in the beginning but Columbus couldn't or wouldn't support some of the exclusive stores, such as a Metropolitan Museum of Art store. The Mall at Tuttle Crossing was also developed by Taubman and the interior design is almost identical: the skylights, tiered ceilings, double elevators, floor tiles, you name it, it looked like they cloned City Center.
Tuttle killed Westland. Polaris & Easton killed Northland, and Eastland may not be far behind. Tuttle looked pathetic when I visited this past Christmas.
I don't recall any discussion of the Casino taking over one of the closed department stores, as Mr Bajek suggested, either Jacobsen's or Marshall Field's/Kaufmann's, but I could have missed that. There was a proposal for the Casino going in the Arena District.
I agree with Richard M that there isn't anything to draw me into malls any more. Someone lamented local shopping. If you look, the original portion of Easton is designed, in part, to resemble that. One advantage Easton has is a degree (I don't know how much) of local control.
    Interesting video.

Aside from all the empty storefronts, I watch these mall videos and think, "There's nothing in that mall that I would want to look at". As a middle aged man, with disposable income, these malls have NOTHING to attract me into them to shop. I buy clothes, not fashion. I buy function, not form. That's why these malls are dying. People like me can get what we want elsewhere or like my kids, on line. Put something into the mall to interest me, sporting goods, hardware, electronics (not video games). Why would any man want to walk around these malls? They are devoid of anything interesting.

    • @rogerc.roberts4705
      @rogerc.roberts4705 4 года назад +1

"Are dying"? They have aready died exactly for the reasons you state.
To many people "bought" the mall idea because of "California dreaming" back in the 60's and wanted a chance to catch up. Unlike other Central Ohioians, I had the chance to visit those malls in the 60's and they were already starting to show their flaws. I believe the mall in the "valley" that headlined the craze is long gone for to lack of variety of items being sold.
About the only national known mall from those days that survived is the one up north around Milwaukee, or is it also gone? (Was it Mid America? Might have been the next state West)
These types of malls make sense in COLD climates, not in Central Ohio.
Another small, 36 store, mall I visited while in the area had 18 stores connected to Wexner's empire from "back then". There doom was already sealed.
Bring back the small retail stores along the street.

Between you having done the Eastland and now Tuttle Malls, I wish you had been able to hit City Center Mall way back before it got plowed down to a park.
If you thought the layout, design, and scope of this building was cool, City Center...man, that was epic.

If this video is from today this is unfortunate . It’s unfortunate there are some that are not following the directions and as a result workout places might go away and the restaurant down the street isn’t serving now for a while. Some of this is the food court, where it’s impossible. That’s why I’m outside restaurants only even if it’s not comfortable. Hopefully some fall weather spells come in a month or so and it becomes cool enough again

Masks dont protect against the CV. The CV is so small there's no mask made that it doesn't go through. This is a fact according to CDC, WHO and Fauci.

@@sprkl5d Fine, don't wear one but you should. It reduces the likelihood of you infecting family and others you come in contact with, and it reduces the likelihood of you becoming infected. These are facts.
