    Yep. It sounds very nice with the hollowish quality light weight bodies often contribute. I had a Limba Jagcaster body and roasted maple neck with Pau Ferro FB and stainless frets made for a baritone build, and it is my favorite solid body guitar. Although in the same weight range, Limba is generally a bit brighter than African Mahogany, but not at all harsh. The FB and stainless frets give it added brightness, but I used multiple layers of Aluminum tape under the pickguard I made to soften the upper-mids (only works for SC pickups). The pickups are a very warm sounding low inductance type with adjustable Steel screws in special alloy bushings that don't reduce the highs.
    Roller bridges can sometimes buzz and reflect some of that sound back to the string. Graphite lube should take care of that.

    I've been looking at these and the one thing that is keeping me from actually pulling the trigger is the lack of a cutaway on the back of the body. I have a standard telecaster and always hated how the body dug into my ribs (I play primarily sitting down). Anyone have any comments on this?

  • @compucorder64
    @compucorder64 7 месяцев назад

    There's something a bit forward thinking punk about these that I love. It makes me think back to those guitarists like Thurston Moore and Lee Ronaldo who took cheaply available and unloved offset Jazzmasters and hotrodded them and turned them into something they'd never been before. But then also the Firebirds of Sex Pistols, and the class of Phil Manzanera of Roxy Music - with a bit of a nod to the great Heavy Metal firebird players like James Hetfield (especially the mini-humbucker models). All good associations to me - a lot of two fingers to the establishment vibes - even the names of the pickups - jabmasters. Not that many new designs of guitars look good to me. But this one looks to me a bit of a modern classic design. Even the size and weight aspect is fresh. Nice, at a time when Fender are pricing out all but the deepest pockets, or at the budget end doing things like the Player Jazzmaster which look like a JM, but really aren't fitted out to play and sound like one. I bought my favourite one, the dark forest green with the gold pickguard, jabmasters, bigsby - for something different to my ES-335/humbucker style guitar, and to have a trem.

    I’ve been so tempted by this guitar many times but I find it disappointing that quality “import” guitars continue to use the B-50 Bigsby rather than the “proper” B-5. I can totally understand it at lower price points but this is a quality mid-level guitar… I’d like to see more guitars at this kind of level is the B-5, B-7, etc. Bigsbys. And this is as much down to the availability, or more precisely non-availability, of Bigsby upgrades for the B-50, and I’m thinking of the Callaham string-thru post and front roller bar with improved bearings and string guides to help straight string pull under the Bigsby. I install these on all of my Bigsby equipped guitars and they make them much easier to live with (string changes primarily) and help with tuning stability. Unfortunately because the B-50 has totally different dimensions these parts don’t fit on it and because the footprint is different you can’t even swap a B-50 for a B-50 without drilling new holes in your guitar.
