One of the most upsetting days of my life as a 9 year old watching my hero Jimmy White. I remember watching this with a tear in my eye. David Vine an irreplaceable legend, along with Ted Lowe and Clive Everton. 😥
@@languageoffootball unfortunately not good in the gcses exams but graduated in 2000 with a degree and just recently with Cima in accounting. So things always get better. So u been to any matches live
That brought back some memories! Going by the comments, I wasn't the only one traumatised by Jimmy White's annual near misses at the Crucible. We probably should have formed a support group at the time!
Incredible brings back memories, at the time it brought back memories of Freddie after he sadly passed then you think about all the past snooker finals before the 92 final and then you get nostalgic about this era, just such a great song choice
Whenever I hear this song I think of this, its burned into my brain. Ive got a terrible memory for things from my childhood but this stuck for some reason. Loved Jimmy as a kid so I think him losing combined with this song was emotional moment lol
In 1992 i never knew more or less a couple of years later the golden era would be over......and snooker would become less of a spectacular and opera...its only really in my eyes this new decade that has seen a return to a new golden era. Back in 1992...who knew the flamboyant peter ebdon would become one of the the most defensive negative player in history...who knew that Jimmy Whites career would be over in earnest within 3 years...to more or less decline 25 years a long slow death...before his reemergance onto the tour this year.....just as the new golden era in snooker begins in earnest
There comes a time in every generation when certain people come forward and represent what felt good in that time. I just don't know who is now coming through to represent their generation. I long for the days of gone by!!!!!
desperate for jimmy to win at 14-8 i remember having a bath at 14-13 and crying my eyes out because i knew hendry would win, then went to bed because i was only 9. next morning looked at the back page of the paper and there was hendry grinning with the trophy i was gutted. my dad had taped the last few frames but i never watch them.
That's probably Ding Junhui tbf. Much better player among the balls than Jimmy, and made fewer mistakes. Shame he never fulfilled his maximum potential. Just like Jimmy really.
@@gaywest4298Ding is still young enough to win it especially in a game where a good tranche of the top players are nearer their 50th than 40th birthday. Don’t think it’s fair to say Ding is the best never to win it when White grew up playing an entirely different game, with different tables, balls and mentality to the game. A 30 break in the 70s was seen as decent to hold on to and it was very tactical. Jimmy and Alex were the trailblazers out of the fusty old man’s game and the likes of Hendry, O’Sullivan, Williams, Higgins, Ding etc might not have ever picked up a cue if it’s wasn’t for Jimmy or if they had would have entered a sport played with the curtains closed, no tv interest in some working men’s club nowhere in particular. White’s legend goes beyond the 6 world championship finals and 4 semi final he lost at The Crucible, even though in and of itself that’s an incredible record at snooker’s cauldron of pressure.
jimmy completeley dominated 3 sessions and was the better player but didnt have the bottle, he had no shortage of ability just couldn't hold his nerve. the pressure is so decisive in a game of such fine margins like snooker. if he had the bottle of hendry jimmy would have won at least 3 world titles.
Don’t think it’s as simple as that. The man got to 6 World Championship Finals and 4 semi-finals at the cauldron of pressure, The Crucible, which in and of itself is an absolutely incredible record by the way. I think it’s more to do with the lack of school education, no coaching or mentor which meant that he maybe didn’t have the best technique that withstood pressure like a straight as a board Steve Davis etc and maybe he wasn’t processing positive affirmations or what other shrinks were telling sports stars of the era, and his lifestyle was one of little or no kip, frequent benders on then booze and drugs, reduced practise, and 5 or 6 kids! He still won 10 ranking titles including the U.K. Championship, and the much coveted Benson and Hedges Masters held at another pressure cooker at Wembley. He was also only the second man ever to make a 147 at The Crucible or first that didn’t contain a fluke!
Sure 'shot of the championship' was accompanied by the instrumental version of Chris Issac's 'Wicked Game' at this tournament ? 'Shot F .. Dean O'Kane'
This footage was also used on a Jim Davidson video a few years later (Jim Davidson's Snooker Balls Ups). What was the music on that clip called whilst this footage played??
92 was a fab championship some great shocks and matches a 147 just a pity white never held it together to finish it off nicely, also a resurgence by Griffiths to get to the semis
Probably not as it’s mostly jettisoned over to i-Player and so between frames you’re often left with a panoramic of the arena and people meandering around the auditorium. They should do it for the final weekend if nothing else as they’re a great set piece to see some of the funny, quirky, sad, poignant or brilliant moments over the long 17 days tournament. Maybe it has more to do with budgets and licensing I’m not sure but don’t remember seeing one of these for a good while now.
It was sad started missing shots nearer the end and Hendry sensed a collapse..bottle job...and swept him aside with 3 centuries in the last 4 frames!!!!!! Jimmy said he was already preparing his winning speech ......so bloody stupid, its not over till its over!!!! and just to cap it of,he lost in 94 to Hendry 18-17 when he managed to grab defeat from victory when in the balls, hmmm i wonder..?? when you think of players Doherty,Dott,Ebdon and tosser Selby have won it with limited ability
Hang on now Ken Doherty got to two world finals in a row 1997 and 1998 and again in 2003. Winning in 1997 hardly 'limited ability'. I will tell you the secret Ken did not go near the 'devils dandruff' as Jimmy called it. Ken looked after himself.
@@nigefal i’ve always maintained jimmy was on a comedown in the 18-17 final. sweating, pale, greasy skin. only jimmy and even alex could miss a final black like that but hey that was the allure of those guys. they entertained you and played the game like you would. unlike ronnie who is as sterile and insipid as the other drones playing the game now. how he gets his rep as “exciting” i will never understand. whatever entertainment he could provide only lasted 94-98. after that, he’s been boring to watch.
well it’s in keeping with the melancholy theme of the montage, so it’s actually a very good choice. the beeb may be a lot of things negative, but never question their production capability. sorry they didn’t have any chas ‘n’ dave for you!
@@markadams3008 Well lyrically yes it may be in keeping with the theme, but it remains a shite song and is therefore a bad choice surely. And yes this was the sort of thing the BBC used to do rather well normally, hence my disappointment...

Possibly the saddest, most beautiful montage they ever did. That shot of Jimmy walking into the sun was heartbreaking.
Great memories.❤️
The young Whirlwind of London Town.
David Vine. What a wonderful man he was.🙏💖
The Rolls Royce of snooker. Love the old commentary

This was when snooker was a pleasure to watch
World Championship Snooker, before the class of 92 took over and conquered for 30 years.
Incorrect, Hendry dominated the 90’s.
Jimmy White is one name that should've been put on the Embassy World Championships trophy, he deserves it. But I always watched his games on tv.
never saw Dennis Taylor angry like that. BTW this was great era-old generation meeting with new

Just got to know the miss rule was first introduced in 1992, not 1995 as quoted in some reference.
Interesting that his montage was used in Jim Davidson's Snooker Balls Ups, albeit with completely different music.
This footage was also used on a Jim Davidson video a few years later (Jim Davidson's Snooker Balls Ups).

hi great video any chance you have the later world championship with this song
there was one from 1994 with the lightning seeds oh lucky you about the 1994 cup
where's the clip with the 94 final with do you remember the first time
Does the BBC still put together these kinda montages? Haven't seen much snooker in the last 8 years or so.

The BBC these days can’t even put a still camera down to show a live match nevermind a montage like this.

Terry Griffiths
Dennis the absolute kunnt Taylor
aspect ratio, audio sync
