Hey Justin, I've been playing guitar for around a year now, I feel like I am improving! I know a wide range of chords and feel I can tackle most intermediate songs but is there any major pointers or anything you did/currently still do to reach higher levels of playing and generally improve? Thanks in advanced :)

The licks at about12:00 remind me of Blackmoor in the song Lazy. Maybe that's where Joe picked it up. Great lesson I'll be playing around with that for sure.

You should give lessons about the 5 patterns of Arpeggios.

Another great piece of work, as usual. You mention the Dorian mode but without much explanation. As a newbie intermediate, I take everything YOU say as "important", so I feel "left out" when Dorian is thrown about without explanation. I find that the A Dorian position 1 holds the same notes as the G Ionian (Major scale) position 5, except for the F# and the notes of emphasis (G). What am I missing when you mention Dorian that makes me feel as if I am just ignorant or this kind of information is privy only to more experienced players? For the sake of us "slow learners", please take note that we don't know everything, and if you mention something (i.e. Dorian sound, etc), it must be important, and if it is important enough to mention, does it not merit a brief explanation? Keep up the great work, Justin. I have been all over the internet trying to find a system and visual aids to reach my goal, and I have to say, you are right up there with the (few) best.

Check out his website and search "Scales and Modes".
Do you understand basic music theory? It would help ;)

Hi Philip: I've purchased both theory books Justin wrote. They are wonderful and will definitely help you in your quest. There is an adage that holds true in most of life's quests, "if you want more out of something, put more into it." Perhaps it's time to do more than jump all over the internet. Yes. Without question, Justin's information is among the best. Time to start working on our "student" game.
