I agree with 10 bags being a sensible number for variety, but probably 5 as an absolute minimum for functionality - work bag - tote / travel bag - evening bag - something carefree that can be rained on / taken to the park without worry .... that’s 4, with one more for the love of bags 🤣🤣🤣
Great video Carol! I totally agree. I think having bags suitable for multiple occasions is key and 10 or so bags is a good amount in anyone’s collection. I get so overwhelmed when I see people with 50+ handbags in their collection 😅
I’m actually at purse peace right now. I’m at 16 right now. I was actually closer to 30 but I finally sat down and really thought each bag through and let the ones I rarely use go. I think what really help me was my focus on bags have changed. I’m much more focus on more important things in my life.
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC It was hard and there were a lot that I thought about for 6-12 months before I actually sold them. But I had to be honest with myself. Im a SAHM and I barely used majority of them. I kept them to admire only.
Technically speaking, you need only 3 bags - a tote and a medium bag for work and a small bag for weekend. However, we humans like variety and carrying the same bag day in and out is boring + it will wear the bag out faster. So we will justify our need for more bags in that sense. On another hand, I noticed that a lot of bloggers seem to cull their bag collection to make funds for a H bag which at the end of the day, seems impractical as it's too expensive to bring to parks, markets, gyms, playgrounds etc. . 😅That bag needs to baby.. So they ended up getting a cheaper bag not to wear out their precious H bag.
Haha I’ve always found that to be a bit silly and also a waste of money. I tend to value functionality in my handbags, so yes an Hermes bag may be amazing quality but if I won’t use it enough what’s the point?
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC yeah, exactly. If all you can carry the bag is to offices, fancy Aircon places and restaurants.. it comes back to the same thing, buying the bag for a fancy occasion. If it's for craftsmanship sake then why the need for duplicates? Most people's lifestyle doesn't need an H bag.
I agree that there is a difference between need and want, with regard to luxury items. No one needs a luxury item, but they are fun to have and give enjoyment. I think the “correct” number depends on your personality as well as your disposable income. I have a lot of bags, gotten over the past 20 yrs. Most sit unused in bins in the basement with my nicer and more often used bags in my closet. Most of the older bags are Coach, MJ, Longchamp so not really worth selling, and we have room so I just keep them in case my daughter ever wants them.
Great video as always! I think the number depends on a lot of things like your lifestyle, preferences and let’s not forget budget. For example, I spent years collecting fashion jewelry, shoes and handbags. Because they were normal to medium range in price, I collected everything that I found beautiful or unique. After some time, my purchases really slowed down because things started being repetitive, and designs were not new anymore. Now when I got into luxury items, and because of their price, I wanted to have a curated and reasonable collection. I have close to 45 normal range bags, and four luxury bags. My ultimate luxury bag collection probably will have about 10 bags max, and my luxury shoes collection about 5 pairs.
Well thought answer on the first question,, I agree with 10 bags being the whole rounded and yet here I am looking at handbags (I own more than 20 ), Im thinking about cutting few of them but I couldn’t do it. i do feel attached to them and I rotate my bags frequently..😍
i think about 10-12 is a good number that allows for variety in colors and occasions, but I own closer to 20 and it’s a bit overwhelming at times...I may let go of a few. I agree that It just seems redundant when you have too many options to choose from.
I def have some duplicative bags but for me a good bag amount with some variety is between 10 and 15. 10 would be ideal for my aspiring minimalist side...but that's a longterm goal for me. 😅
15 is an acceptable number to me. I currently have 11, but they are either different colors or shapes or styles, so I don't feel any of them are too repetitive. If I take out the bags that's not meant to be used often, such as bags for business trips/interviews/weddings/special events, really I only have 9 bags (still a lot, I know lol) But with 11 bags already in my closet, I would give some real serious thoughts before I add another one, as i don't sell my bags. BTW, I was thinking about buying a Chanel WOC to be used on special occasions such as weddings, but I am so glad I didn't bc how often do I go to weddings? Also why would i spend so much money on a purse to be used on someone else's wedding lol. It would be a 3k compulsive purchase if I went for it
LOL I can relate to that. I used to use special occasions like weddings as an excuse to shop for a new dress and then accumulated a bunch of dresses I only wore once. It’s too much money for minimal use 😅
5 is my purse peace. 2 luggages, a backpack, a small bag for errands and night out and a work/everyday bag. I would add an extra like the Chanel flap because It’s a bag I want but not one I’m willing to blow money on just yet.
I don’t believe in purse peace because I think there is always potential for me to fall in love with a new design. However, I think it is reasonable to keep the collection at a certain size and “one in one out” system may not be a bad idea! My collection is about the same size as yours and I am mainly sticking to classics with my lux collection. I do also have contemporary ones that I don’t really put a limit on and for those I experiment with different colors. But with the contemporary ones it is also much easier for me to let go of old ones to buy new ones.
Oh I never really thought of buying contemporary bags to experiment with color. I’ve went that route when I wanted to test out a bag shape/design but you make a very good point!
You "need" maybe 3. I have 7, well 7 'bags that come in a bag.' Plus about 8 other ones that are super casual, do these actually count? (several NaRaYa, a free Uniqlo canvas bag at the grand opening, Shiseido nylon tote GWP...) oh and 2 travel crossbody bags. It's possible to be at purse peace, but damn near impossible to be at purse peace+ SLG peace+ accessory (shoes/sunglasses/watch/jewelry) peace.
I’m loving color right now. I only own 2 black bags. My chanel classic and a coach crossbody. I may add a ysl clutch in the future then I’m done with black bags. Right now I’ve been adding color and it’s honestly so fun. I just make sure it’s something that suits me. Ex: the right shade of yellow or pink. Not sure if I will ever have a right # but rotating them is a big deal for me. I don’t like anything not being used so it may take me longer to decide than before
A few small/mini light colored bags that are better suited for the warmer weather. Most of mine right now are dark colored and I want some cheerful colors. But I only want them in small doses and not in the form of a tote bag for example because I know I’ll never use it.
In general yes but I’m not sure I would pick black and gray though because the colors aren’t different enough in my opinion. On a slightly different note, I’m obsessing over the lilac color they released recently 😱

That's a good Inspiration. We don't need too many at the same time we want to hv different functionality.

Thanks! ❤️ I agree - I get that some people like big collections, but I would feel so anxious with that much stuff.

Wow cutting it down by half is a hard task! I’m thinking of selling two of my current bags and finding it hard to let go 🙈

I’m sure she would appreciate that! I have some of my old bags at my mom’s place and my nieces like to play with them when they’re at her place.

Wow I wish I had the self control that you have with shoes 🙈😅

I’m the same 😅 There’s two that I don’t think I need but I can’t bring myself to let go right now.

"It's just very boring to only have neutral colors" 🙋♀️ More than new releases or trendy bags I need color in my life ❤️
Oh yes I’d rather get a colorful classic bag than a neutral trendy bag any day 😄
5 is my purse peace. 2 luggages, a backpack, a small bag for errands and night out and a work/everyday bag. I would add an extra like the Chanel flap because It’s a bag I want but not one I’m willing to blow money on just yet.
You’re definitely a lot more disciplined than I am on this 😅

My “purse peace number” would be a solid 15. 😂 not 10, not 5, not 2. 15. 💀😩😩 I’m working on it. Lol. Great video!
I kept thinking about this question myself. How many bags do I need? Probably 5-10. How many do I have? I’m trying very hard to be under 20.
Haha I understand the struggle 😅
Love all your videos BABE 💓💓

I feel the same way regarding colors. I know a lot of people consider a true red bag a must have, but not me. Burgundy, however, is a different story.
Hi Thank you for sharing your opinion 😉
Sorta minimalist with a clean palette, that could be the approach. For sure, as you get older, lifestyle changes, the number of bags changes.
Very true!
How many bags do I need? Probably 3 or 4. How many do I have? Wayyyy too many. The struggle to downsize is real!
Haha I agree. There’s maybe 2 bags that I’m considering selling but I cant bring myself to do it 😅
What do you need to make your collection more well rounded?
A few small/mini light colored bags that are better suited for the warmer weather. Most of mine right now are dark colored and I want some cheerful colors. But I only want them in small doses and not in the form of a tote bag for example because I know I’ll never use it.
Have you thought of getting bags in multiple colors?
Yes definitely. Currently there’s only one bag that I own in 2 colors though.
Cos I already have the pico in black, planning to get it in grey as well
Do u think celine pico belt is worth it to have in multiple colors?
In general yes but I’m not sure I would pick black and gray though because the colors aren’t different enough in my opinion. On a slightly different note, I’m obsessing over the lilac color they released recently 😱
The yellow one is nice as well haha im not girly to wear pastel colors. 😂 i wear jeans most of the time. I love their classic box as well
