The Gershwin Initiative

The U-M Gershwin Initiative, founded at the U-M School of Music, Theatre & Dance, is a long-term partnership between the university and the families of George and Ira Gershwin to bring the music of the Gershwins to students, scholars, performers and audiences across campus and across the globe. This two-part effort includes publishing new, scholarly musical scores for all of George and Ira’s creative work, while creating educational opportunities for U-M students to perform and learn about the Gershwin brothers’ art. The video here features Marc George Gershwin, nephew of George and Ira Gershwin, and Michael Strunsky, nephew of Ira Gershwin, as well as other scholars and musicians, talking about the importance and contributions of the University of Michigan project.
