For someone just wanting to connect to iOS and not desiring a lot of normal midi features I think it’ll do. I’ve looked at a bunch of other keyboards and there are other that have way more features but this one just seems very simple which is what’s most appealing
Thanks for the review! I like you reviews because you always talk about key bed. And you do it from the pianist perspective. Nobody else talk about key bed nowadays :) all they need are encoders and buttons. I have iRig Keys Pro (the 1st one, original). And I like it a lot because key bed are not stiff. I wonder is it worth upgrading to this. The lack of audio jack on iPhones I counter with Puck+.
Well from a pianist perspective I guess it's actually should be better to get more stiff keys, cause they would feel more similar to real piano keys than this synthesizer types one.
Liked before even watching! Your videos are so very valuable! Not only mentioning the specs but also talking about the keybed from a pianist's perspective. I ordered the Novation Launchkey 61 after your review of the 49 key version. I was originally looking at the Komplete Kontrol a61 but changed my mind after your review. Thank you so much and keep up the good work! Love from Sweden.
*YEP, that transport would've made that a no complaint winner all around...! That with my Akai MPD and Cubase on a laptop with Battery 3 - ITS A RAP at $150*
good vid.I have a 37 irig and I use a module with a Kenton usb convertor. It means I can carry it on the bus and DI in to the venue,s PA.I,m too old to carry all the gear for my korg kross. It allows me to compete with all the guitar players.happy days.
Thanks very much for your video! Very cool. Do you think it’s working with „Pure Piano“ on the iPad Air? What would you recommend to record everything? Thanks in advance!
I just bought the mini version and I like the size of it. I was wondering if you were going to review this board. Great video keep them coming your views are a make or break deal for some of us. God bless.
That's why I became interested in the Irig Pro, because it caters to IOS. But can you tell me if it can be used with plug-ins as well ??? Excellent video, by the way.👍
Have you reviewed the iRig Keys I/O or have any experiance with it that you can share? I really like your reviews. I have seen maybe one honest review on the I/0 but nothing comparing it to other midi keyboards. You have already reviewed a few other controllers I have been interested in and I would like to see how it stacks up. The key bed and portability of the 49 key version seems to be the best option at that price point, but what do I know lol. I bought the irig keys 2 Pro, and like you, feel like I need 49 keys to be able to play it the way I want to. I currently own a Yamaha GDX670 which I love but its definitely not portable so I am looking for something portable to play with. I wish more manufactures would put the pitch and mod wheel above the keys to cut down on the overall lengths of the keyboards. The I/0 49 is only about 3 inches longer than the keys 2 pro which is perfect in my opinion. I wonder if they will come out with a new "I/O 2" version and go usb-c, effectively ditching the proprietary cable that everyone is annoyed with. Honestly that is the only thing that has me on the fence about buying it I also got the keys 2 pro for only $100 so I am hesitant about returning it because it is a nice option at that price for sure.
Great review, John! Just picked one up on the strength of your review - just what I'm looking for - and I have a tip; if you have the Apple camera connection kit you can connect the iRig to the iPad using the supplied mini-USB cable, with the CCK, and power your iPad at the same time.
Nice reviews (just subbed), has helped me to narrow down to two choices. Pretty sure someone asked you this already, but what would you pick (considering the prices are pretty similar at least where i'm at) and why? irig keys 2 pro or komplete kontrol m32? thanks!
Hi! Is there any option to have sustain sound without using a sustain pedal? I mean not in GarageBand which has the sustain mode, but in other programs such as Fl Studio, SampleTank, etc... Many thanks
Hey John Mike! I am looking for a keyboard that works well with ios devices since watching your video on running two keyboards from your phone. Would you recommend this keyboard for that purpose specifically? Or are their better options in this price range?
It’s pretty cool…the main thing that sets this apart is the fact that it has a built in audio interface…so you don’t need any extra way to get sound out of your device…personally I would go with something with a few more keys like an m-audio oxygen
Thanks for rating this controller now I have something to think about it is a little costly , what controller will you consider I have 61 M-Audio , 49 and 88 Yamaha MX but now I want a 37 key controller I always listen to you I have not went wrong yet. Plus I am on a budget trying to go back to school for music in January 2020 so John Mike what's a good and cheap 37 key controller that I can buy.
Hi John, thx for a great review! I was looking at the specs and input/outputs of the device and I was wondering about the following: As far as I understand, the iRig Keys 2 Pro gets the power from the connected iPad/iPhone. How would you then prevent that iPad/iPhone from running out of battery in a live situation? Can you somehow connect an external power source? Thx, Harry
@@Johnmike But isn't the USB connection from the iRig Keys 2 Pro going directly to the iPad/iPhone? Where/how can you then connect to the powered USB hub?
Hi again, FYI I just talked to Thomann and I was informed that it would work with this device: www.thomann.de/dk/apple_lightning_auf_usb_3.0_adapter.htm
Hey John. How is the latency with the audio interface? Also, is it only an output (no input to record). Edit: I just realised the 49 key you may want to review/see is the iRig Keys I/O.
Yea there are a ton of other boards that work in this price range...pretty much every board I covered in this video ruclips.net/video/8EstpPV8ShA/видео.html
are the piano keys the same size as a standard acoustic or 88 key keyboard? I want to be able to learn while I am traveling and don't want to learn the wrong size keys for my muscle memory.
If you are not using it for IOS like ipad or iphone DO NOT buy!! has no transport keys, it does not stay connected (have to unplugg and replugg the small android cable tip which are very well known to loosen over time or just effin break. For around mid 135 there's way more options. I guess they thought since it uses with apple they can jack the price for something made so bad. One thing I would give is that it does feel premium.
im looking something with the same 37 full size semi weighted keys but also with minimum 8 pads + min 8 knobs above. i use them to mute/unmute channels and volume controls .any suggestions ? cause ive found only something with mini keys . thank u bro

Do the audio outs also work when connected to computers?
Not only did I want the first post (my first first post), but kudos to IKMedia for putting the headphone jack on there!

Looks like a fun keyboard that sits somewhere in the between the Komplete Kontrol M32 and Komplete Kontrol A49.
Good point about having a built-in headphone jack, considering newer apple products do not.

I think I’m going to go grab the old iRig keys and shoot it out against the new one
John Mike, thats great! Thanks man!

Mine just arrived for working on songs while in car. So far adjusting to less keys fine.

All this needs is transport controls and some basic drum pads and this thing would be boss
Great review ! looking to purchase one to carry .
Thanks for the dope review, with the midi this could control the Uno Drum yeah?
Yes it should
How do I lower the volume of the sound? The volume knob only works for headphones volume

M32 all day! It’s my favorite mini controller!

Great video. Do you know how to get the sound out from the iPad speakers?
So surprised this doesn’t have drum pads and a mic port. Why did they call it Pro? It seems to be less exciting than the original keys 49 I/o
