You cannot tackle a player above his shoulders, tackle him when he is in the air or put him down on his neck if you lifted him from the ground in a tackle. Contact with the head is now an automatic card (yellow for "low risk contact" = 10 minutes out of the game and your team down one player, and red for "high risk contact" = ejected for the remaining time of the game and your team down one player).

  • @stephenhodgson3506

A Red card (sent off) is the equivalent of getting ejected in NFL. However there is one other very big difference if you are sent off you cannot be replaced so it becomes 15 against 14. Depending on when this happens your team could be a man short for a few minutes or in some cases most of the game.

A minor infringement of the rules can result in either a free-kick or a penalty (depending on the nature of the infraction)
A more serious offence will additionally result in a Yellow Card (i.e. a warning). In Rugby union, this will also result in the player responsible being sent to the "sin bin" for ten minutes.
The most serious offences, particularly those that constitute dangerous play, will result in a red card, where the player is sent off for the remainder of the match.
Examples, as shown in many of these clips, can be tackling the opposition player in the air (this is potentially very unsafe), tackles above the shoulder, the "spear" tackle, where the opponent hits the ground head first, shoulder charges (you must make a valid attempt to use your arms in the tackle), recklessly late tackles, violent conduct, deliberate foul play and many more.

Steve, Rugby according to legend started when a player called William Webb Ellis during a football match ( soccer match) decided to pickup the ball and carry it to the goal line and shoved anyone who tried to stop him to the ground. Obviously he was penalised for his actions but the seed of the game had been planted. This took place at a game of football (soccer)at a British Public School ( fee paying private school) in the town of RUGBY, so as other games were played the game came to be called Rugby Football (or football played by the rules that were applied at Rugby school). Later the game was split between two codes known as Rugby Football (Union) and Rugby League (League). Basically the union game was played as an amateur game without payment and was known as a game played between teams of gentlemen, whereas the league games were played by the general public who because they were working class people in the main , would probably if injured during a game have to take time off work and possibly lose their jobs and without a welfare state they would not be bringing any money into the house, so people would pay to see their games and the entry fees at first went to any players who were injured and unable to work. Eventually all of these players (as opposed to the amateur gentlemen) started wanting to be paid for their efforts and they became professional players on regular wages, in return for attending training days several times a week and playing a match on a regular basis. The two codes play with slightly different rules and numbers of players on each team and the rules tend to be changed to a small amount each season. Most people are taught the game at school or at club level and they are taught the union rules. Then people learn to support their local teams and follow the rules applied to their team. Both codes have talent spotters who if they see a player who is promising they will offer to give them a tryout for their team, but by comparison to the number of players there are not many who are then offered a contract to play. Rugby is a truly international sport and can be found just about anywhere on the planet. Obviously there are countries where it is more popular than others but some including the USA are improving and taking an equal foothold in the world of Rugby and in some countries it has become the nearest thing to a competitive religion e.g. New Zealand and some of the smaller Pacific states. I recommend you to look at the woman’s games as they can be just as much entertaining as the men’s games and while you’re in a sporting mood take a look at the Australian Rules Football, which will blow your mind.

There was no such thing as association football (i.e. soccer) when William Webb Ellis was playing. Different areas, schools and universities had their own versions of 'football'. The one played at Rugby School at that time permitted a player to catch the ball, retire 10 yards and then kick it.

Rugby is a great game. The rules are now very complicated, but in essence the aim of the game is to get the ball over the opponent’s goal line to score a “try” (by placing the ball firmly on the ground). That is awarded 5 points. You can run with or kick or pass (throw - aways backwards never forwards) the ball to get it from one end of the pitch to the other. You then have an opportunity to convert that try by kicking it over the goal (depends where you scored the try as to how easy that will be - angle and distance from goal post). That scores an additional 2 points. A penalty might also be awarded based on something the other team does wrong, and again this involves kicking the ball over the goal posts - to be awarded 3 points. Or you might try to get a try instead from wherever the penalty occurred. It’s fast, can be brutal as you saw, and action packed. In my opinion, much more interesting than football (soccer)!

Basics. They can only pass backwards, just watch more and you'll see what I mean, they line up attacking and pass almost laterally. Only the player with the ball can be tackled. You can kick the ball, as long as its still in play it's anyone's, but you obviously risk a bad bounce and ultimately loosing the ball to the opposition. to score a try (a touch down) you literally have to touch it down in the area passed the oppositions try line - 5pts (end zone). Like football (English football), the rules favour constant play, avoiding stoppages as much as possible, for instance if the player gets tackled with the ball and is down holding it the ref will give him a little time to pass it back to his team mates and 'recycle' the ball and play carries on. There are other plays, such as conversions, scrums, lineouts, mauls, rucks, penalties and drop goals but you don't need to get bogged down with all that for now. Good reacts are a compilation of best tries, there are so many, maybe '32 Great Rugby Tries - Impossible to Forget!' If you want to see hits, 'Rugby Hits-Till I collapse'. Skills? 'Best Rugby Skills 2021/2022 - Offloads, Steps, Skills'. Enjoy.

The rules for both types of rugby are relatively different from American football, It originated from Football. It is a contact sport butt if the rules are followed properly injuries can be minimal, the types of tackles are specified in the rules. Red Cards like in football are a sending off offence with no replacement player for the rest of the game. red and yellow card penalties are common inn many sports.
An observation I an many have made is that games like Football, Rugby, And even cricket are designed for rapid and continuous play, where possible play is continued with relatively fast restarts for out of bounds. You should note that most sports are shown with no commercials during play so for example there is no break on TV until Half time then full timeif its on BBC there are no adverts anyway.
Rugby Is played at a rugby ground/ Stadium. Football, rugby and cricket have their own stadiums generally speaking. USA are to host the Rugby World Cup in 2031. Best team game in the world. Played it for a number of years, great camaraderie. Any contact with the head of the ball carrier by the tackler is deemed dangerous play and can mean either a sin bin time of 10 mins (yellow card) or a red card sending off for the remainder of the game depending on the circumstances (mitigation). You keep the point of contact below the shoulder level. The current top rugby teams in the world are Ireland and France. There are two major annual Championships - the Six Nations where England Ireland France Scotland Italy and Wales play each other and the equivalent in the Southern Hemisphere, where Sth Africa, New Zealand, Australia and Argentina play each other. The World Cup comes around every 4 years and will be held in France this autumn. The World Champions are Sth Africa. The games against Australia are always tasty. Fiji, Samoa, Georgia, Canada, Japan and not forgetting the American Eagles, (who lost to Portugal in the playoff for a place in the next world cup this Autumn in France) are amongst many teams who play around the globe. Club rugby is strong in these countries.

They are similar but different at the same time. If you get a yellow card, you are sent from the field for a 10-minute and that team plays a man short. if you get a red card, you are sent from the field for the rest of the game and your team plays with a man short.

Rugby Union is the "original" form of rugby, which traditionally has amateur status, with no payments. In 1895 though, the Rugby League split off from the Union, specifically to allow their players to be paid. Rugby League is mostly played in the north of England (although now played around the world) and happened because the men playing the game were mostly in poor industrial areas and couldn't afford to play without reasonable payment. The rules of the game are similar in both codes, but Rugby League is perceived as the 'tougher' form. All the violence stays on the pitch though - both codes are very much family sports, and you will often see mothers and young girls spectating there as well as men and boys. It is not unusual to see both teams supporters mixing together peacefully, unlike (soccer) football.

Basically a normal tackle would be below shoulder height and with the arms rapped, you just wrap your arms around the player. You can only tackle the player who has the ball. They are lowering the tackle height a lot recently and it could be below the sternum now. Most effective tackle is the chop tackle where you go real low to their ankles.

There are 2 types of RUGBY. Rugby League and Rugby Union. This is RUGBY UNION.
A RED card means you are sent off the pitch for the entire match. No replacement is allowed. Your side plays on with one less man.
A YELLOW card gets you sent off to the SIN BIN for 10 minutes before being allowed back onto the pitch. Your team is one man down until you return.
You can ONLY tackle the player who has the ball.
A red card is given for a dangerous tackle.
ANY contact with the head is a NO NO !!
You cannot lift a man off his feet and slam him into the turf.
You can't tackle the man in the air.
All this with NO PADDING !!

If you have a minor infraction in rugby you get a Yellow Card (in rugby you also have to leave the pitch for 10minutes for a yellow, leaving ng your team with 14 men for the duration) 2 infractions means a Red Card, No more playing in that game and possibly the next few, depending on how often the player gets "carded". If you tackle above the shoulders its an automatic Red Card or if you make a dangerous tackle (Lifting a player up and driving him down on his head, for example) then its automatic Red.
    Thats the Gist of it

  • @neowolfsden
    @neowolfsden Год назад

Usually a Yellow card is if you break the rules but it is unintentional and is like a warning but the player can remains on the field and continues playing but frequently they are sent off for 10mins. Whereas a Red card is if you break the rules intentionally and you are sent off the field and yup its for the game, its not a penalty thing. Also if you are playing professionally a Red card also brings a fairly hefty financial fine.
In terms of padding the only padding worn is Shin pads down the sock and a Jock Strap. Some players also wear a soft head padding but that's all. There aren't many rubgy matches where someone isn't bloody. Injuries are pretty common.

  • @peterwicks9851
    @peterwicks9851 Год назад

The idea is to tackle the man with the ball, you can't block or obstruct an opposition player who is not carrying the ball like in American football. Generally most foul play is delt with a yellow card, resulting with the offending player leaving the field for 10 minutes (sin bin). Any contact with the head results in a red card which takes thr player of the field for the remainder of the match and a ban for a number of games. The tackle high has been lowered to prevent head injuries and concussion. I would recommend reading up on thr rules of rugby, it makes watching the great game much more enjoyable.

Red card = You are off and can't be substituted with another player.. so:
Your team loses a player for the rest of the game
    NOTE:
Each team can start with 15 players and up to 7 substitutes.
Players that have left the field are only allowed to return if they have been treated for an injury.
Passing the ball forward is not allowed nor is it allowed to drop the ball forward, which is called knock-on or Avant.
The ball may only be advanced by carrying or kicking it forward.
Any player on the field of play may advance with the ball.
Attacking players must remain behind the ball whilst active or run the risk of being called offside.
Players not interfering with play can be in front of ball but must get back behind the ball before then again interfering with play.
The referee is responsible for enforcing the rules.
It is played in two continuous halves of 40 minutes each with a 10 minute rest period in between.
There is no provision for breaks (unless there is an injury).
The game will stop if a player is fouled, the ball goes out of play or a try or drop goal is scored.
The time is kept by the head referee and must be stopped only when there are injuries.
A tackle cannot be made above shoulder height and doing so will cause the referee to award a foul.
The defending team must tackle a player by grabbing a hold and pulling them to the floor.
A player tackled or tackled (knocked down) must immediately pass or release the ball. The tackling player must also immediately release the tackled player.
A melee/scrum restarts play after a forward pass or knock-on.
A melee/scrum is also formed on other less frequent occasions.
A line-out restarts play when the ball leaves the field of play.
A try/try is awarded when the ball is carried beyond the goal line (end zone) and grounded.
5 points are awarded for making a try/test.
2 points are awarded for converting the extra kick after a try/try.
3 points are awarded for converting a field goal (kick) after an infringement has been committed.
3 points are awarded for converting a drop kick in open play.
After a try/try or penalty kick is converted, the ball is kicked to the scoring team (except in sevens, seven-a-side rugby).
A successful conversion, penalty or kick at goal only occurs when the player manages to kick the ball through the top section of the goal.
If a player is unsuccessful the ball is still in play until it crosses one of the playing fields boundaries.

It's a fantastic game, but it's worth watching a video that shows great passages of play rather than brutal hits. Brutal hits are fine, but without the context of what normal play looks like, it can be a bit confusing.

the red card means the player is no longer aloud to play in the match the team cannot replace him and has to play the rest of the game with that player missing the player often get a match ban meaning they are banned from playing in the next match it is common for them to get a three match ban but he can be replaced for future games but not during the game he gets a red card same in soccer the game itself is very similar to your football
the ball is similar in shape but much fatter than you football there are two types of rugby / rugby union and rugby league union is played at a much faster pace in league the idea is to get a try this means placing the ball in what you call an end zone the team get 6 attempts to do this providing they do not loose the ball if they fail the opponents get the ball this done by kicking the ball to them if the ball bounces over the side line then it is a scrum down the two teams form a scrum an amount of players huddle up together from both teams and the ball is put in the middle then they have to push against each other to get the ball when i used to play my position was prop forward this is a scrum position comprising of two prop forwards and a hooker the prop forwards where the biggest guys you could get and the hooker the smallest the two prop would link up with the hooker in the middle they job was to push as hard as they can while the hooker tries to hook the ball with his feet a pass it backward through the scrum that is the first line the second line scrum half player was made up same as the front line but with no hooker there job was to push the prop forwards imagine it to be like a reverse tug of war in stead of pulling you are pushing injury occurs in just about every match players can be sent to the blood bin for treatment to cuts and such but are allowed to come back and play on its not uncommon to see players wearing blood stained bandages

There's only one rule you need to know to watch your first rugby game and that is that you can't pass the ball forwards. Everything else will follow. Scoring is similar to American Football with tries (= touchdowns), conversions and penalty and drop kicks (=field goals). Play is far more continuous as we don't have downs.
Videos of New Zealand Hakas and the Welsh National Anthem will give you a sense of the national pride attached to those nations' rugby teams. The main two tournaments to look out for are the Six Nations annual 'round robin' tournament, Feb to April, England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France, Italy. There's also the Rugby World Cup which includes New Zealand, Australia and South Africa and less successful rugby playing nations.

You can kick it forward to gain ground, either keeping it in play to be chased or to put it out (into touch) for as much distance as possible. If you’re behind the last line of defence at the 22 metre mark when you kick it can go straight into touch, but if you are forward of that line the ball has to bounce before it goes into touch otherwise you have to restart the game from where it was kicked.

Rugby is constant movement between attack and defence. You score tries at the end of the field and then have to kick a conversion through the posts (like American Football) for more points.
American Football you almost have 2 teams - attack and defence which you rotate depending on what phase you’re in. Rugby there is only one set of players who have to do both attack and defence.
Opposition are allowed to tackle players but unless there is a infraction like a penalty (kick to posts for points or touchline for attacking line outs) or knock outs there are no stoppages.

But there are rules, you may not hit a playing ubove the shoulders, you can't tackle a player that is in the air and you can't turn them upside down and drive their heads into the ground. There are more rules but that is just focusing on the most common ones. If you are found to have made a mistake there are a few options the ref has depending on the infringement. 1 a penalty 2 a yellow card (that player must leave the feald for 10 minutes) 3 red card ( that player must leave the game for the rest of the match) there are two types of penalties but that would be another discussion 😂
