If you put the leather dye on super thick you can get blacks as deep as hot dipping. It also has the advantage of not bleeding. Even in premium plastics like Star, the hot dips bleed after a month or two. The leather dye will keep the lines forever but it is slightly harder to keep the lines clean in the beginning. Googone will also take this dye off the disc.

Great video! I've just recently gotten into dying myself, mostly because of these videos! I was wondering about the amount of water in the mixture for your hot dips. On the website it says "A large mason jar" but I was wondering roughly how much is that?
Hey now Matthew! Thanks bud, glad you could dig it. My first time around whipping it up I used about 8 cups of water. Since then though I've added more dye and water to the mix as needed somewhat indiscriminately.
Great information ! I just wonder how long disc can be on the glue bed, what is normal time ? Doesn't the glue start to dry pretty quickly? How the disc does not stick to the glue ? Thank you.
Thanks Aron! I wondered that same thing before trying it. Normal time depending on the plastic type for me is usually 12-24 hours for a glue bed. As long as the glue isn't coming in contact with the air is doesn't dry in that time at all. Some of the glue around the outside edges of the pan that isn't covered by the disc will start to dry, but it's real easy to peel off as you rinse the disc.
Awesome, you're going to love spin dyeing! My turntable came with a rubber mat that I've been using, works great. I've seen/heard that felt mats work good as well. On another mat note, I've seen people stack a couple of the up on top of each other until they're higher than the center peg. I probably would have done that too instead of cutting my center peg out, had I seen the idea ahead of pulling out the Dremel tool. Hope that helps bud!

For now I have a few Rit dyes and I was planning on dyeing a few discs, but one of them I want to add a stencil for. Am I able to add a black stencil onto a disc later if I dye it now, or will that change the appearance in an undesired way?

All good questions bud. The short answer is there's no rules, funk 'em up however the spirit moves you! Direct answer to your question would be no you don't have to mix the powdered dye with acetone, that's just a way to get it to a liquid form kinda like Worm Dip.
