    Mark, I'd like to see an full review of the Suunto Ocean, including how accurate it is in the water and how the features work. The spec sheet sounds great, but I'd like to see actual performance. Thanks for the review, I hadn't even heard about the B2x before this.

    Was thinking about getting the Suunto Ocean, but after doing research, it uses the same heart rate sensor as the Suunto Race, which got negative reviews because of the poor(in-accurate) heart rate sensor. Also compass can’t be used while scuba diving, and limited customization of the dive mode Home Screen. They should have used the same heart rate sensor on the Suunto Race S, they will most portably do that on ver 2. Went with the Shearwater tern tx, better buy overall, great compass while diving, fully customizable dive mode screen, and will stick with my old Apple Watch with better sensors for smart watch use :) or buy a new entry level Apple Watch gps with the money saved with the Tern tx.

    I bought the Axiom i3 bcd last year, already dive reefs and wrecks with it, it really is extremely comfortable and intuitive, wouldn't go back to a traditional one. It's also N hybrid bcd, so air shifts on the back rather then the waist when you're horizontal underwater helping yiut to maintain that position, while it keeps you upright on the surface.

    • @ScubaDiverMagazine

      Yeah I like hybrid BCDs and I like AquaLung's i3 system. I first tried it years ago and it's such an elegant way of controlling your BCD.

      There's a factory refurb listing that pops up every now and then on Amazon for a Mk2i for $900. I saw it, and before I got back to bite the bullet, they sold out, so I bought a 3i, and the listing was active again, just my luck

    How do you orally inflate the new axiom. Is there any concerns if you can't orally inflate it in case of emergency

    • @AndrewR74
      @AndrewR74 Месяц назад +2

      There is a hose on the shoulder that has a camelbak style mouthpiece. You can deploy this by reaching to your shoulder and pulling down the hose. Then push it against your lips and blow.

    • @ScubaDiverMagazine
      @ScubaDiverMagazine  Месяц назад +1

      Yeah, as @AndrewR74 says: if you look at the left shoulder you'll notice a small tube under a velcro cover. You can pull that out and orally inflate from there.

    Put your credit card away for the moment. There's nothing that's been recently released that will fundamentally change your diving.
    Buy what you actually need and remember that what you actually need has probably existed for over a decade at this point and that newer versions are usually only incremental improvements not revolutionary improvements. If you want revolutionary improvements look at training, not gear.

    • @jkj9259
      @jkj9259 Месяц назад

      In principle I would agree but of course buying new gear and continuing to train and improve are not mutually exclusive things. I am getting a dry suit this year (so I can enjoy more options for diving locally) and I will definitely need to get training on dry suit diving

    • @harambeexpress
      @harambeexpress Месяц назад +1

      @@jkj9259 drysuits, backplate and wing or sidemount rig... Of course... But these things aren't new. And more importantly they specifically open up new diving options in a way that gimmicks like the latest jacket BCD or computer simply don't.

    Why don’t Apeks make the RK4’s in blue?

    • @ScubaDiverMagazine
      @ScubaDiverMagazine  24 дня назад

      I actually asked them years ago about adding blue to their range but, they've settled on their Orange, Purple, Green, Grey theme.
      The cost of developing and producing an extra colour must be huge and if there isn't a substantial demand then there's no huge incentive for Apeks to take that risk.

    Am thinking about the ZD710 Orcatorch but worried about the Zoom function being flooding failure point...
    Also, are you for or against removing the battery to recharge on the ZD710 vs the DC710 with USB-C charging port being on the torch body itself?
    Which do you think is a more reliable product?

    • @LeeLeatherbarrow
      @LeeLeatherbarrow Месяц назад +1

      I have the ZD710, DC710, and also the D710. The ZD710 and DC/D710 are different products for a different job. The ZD is for occasional video/camera work when you just want a "point and shoot" set up, and a torch. The DC is just a plain and simple torch. I love the ZD710 as it mounts nicely to their Goodman handle, and then I've also mounted my GoPro to it for a very lightweight and compact camera rig. I'm not worried about the zoom flooding at present as it look well built, only time will tell if it becomes a failure point in the future - it certainly was on both of my Tovatech Fusions. What I don't like about the ZD710 is the beam pattern in tight focus mode. It just loses some of the clarity that the DC/D710 have.
      Personally I prefer the D710 over the DC710. Whilst having a charging port built in to the torch is handy, I have found myself occasionally without power midway through a second dive, and I feel the built in charge port is a failure point waiting to happen. As the D710 only has user replaceable batteries, I bought a spare battery and simply change it in-between dives. And whilst I could do that with the DC710, I'm then gaining nothing that the D710 doesn't have, and adding in an additional potential failure point and some more weight. HTH.

    • @hitchjay
      @hitchjay Месяц назад

      @@LeeLeatherbarrow seriously thank you for the details. I think Ill go with a ZD710 for GoPro and it can be used as a light, and for a backup, I could go for the d710 or the cheaper D580. Also, good point on the USBC port. Better have a 2nd battery in the first place.

      That's a new brand for me. Coated materials are always nice, they cost a bit more but, they're easier to clean and care for. The right shoulder dump valve is unusual on a donut wing but, I'm always up for testing new gear if they want to reach out
