This is one of the oddities in Mandarin (or maybe Chinese culture). When a female calls a stranger male "shuaige" (which literally means handsome brother/handsome guy) it is not considered flirting, just pure politeness. But when a female calls a stranger male "gege" (which literally means brother) it is considered intentional flirting.
Oh geez, it looks to me like there has indeed been some embarrassment behind calling these guys “brother” when doing pranks like this for sure. But even so, maybe some of them might feel good about it while others may feel a bit surprised and embarrassed as well 😅

If you ever watch Chinese dramas, you have to quickly determine who is not the younger sisters of the male lead because all the women who like him will call him 哥哥 (gēgē) plus his younger sisters 😅
It may be confusing to non-Chinese to translate "Ge ge (gor gor)" as merely Brother. It actually means Older Brother. Hence the prank on younger males.
