You make a compelling argument for the game being some mindless fun in the review!
But there's just something about the consumer practices of games like this and Diablo Immoral that make me not want to support such games. So, I think I'll still pass.

Very fair! I would never blame anyone for boycotting "games as a service," generally. That said, I don't think Torchlight: Infinite deserves 1:1 comparisons to Diablo Immortal, as I got through 20+ hours of Infinite without hitting a single predatory paywall. Good luck doing that in Diablo Immortal :D

@@MEGAthemicro I agree. There is some predatory bullshit (as with all mobile games) but compared to a lot of others it's surprisingly tame and generous. Big content creators have even done some testing and mathing out of it and a full on whale gets maybe 40% more DPS than a completely f2p player (one that isn't even using the free resources like free pulls given, completely stock standard). It's night and day when you consider how absolutely absurd Diablo Immoral gets.

This game can't be compared to Diablo Immoral, it's soooo much better and less p2w, it is still predatory, but oh well... At least it's only a whale trap, nothing for us commoners (unless you're into skins, but I find them kinda ugly).

game is pretty fun for me. the fact it has no pvp or any multiplayer mode you will not feel getting left behind by paying players unlike Diablo immortal where PvP and on boss fights you will feel the difference of paying players and f2p players. as for paying players they will still enjoy their money's worth with exclusive heroes in TL:infinite. would give it a solid 4/5 for being free to play game with active devs, also seasons are quick and eventful. and to have a balance enjoyment for paying players and f2ps is a real good sign for longevity. games who are able to achieve healthy enjoyment for paying players and f2ps are MObas and FPS where players can enjoy paying for skins while f2ps enjoyment are not affected by it.

Okay, so from what I heard it is worth checking out if you have nothing better to do, or to just chill a bit in a dungeon crawler. I mean 3.07/5 is not alll that bad, considering that it is free to get

Agreed, the first Torchlight is nothing special, but did you ever give Torchlight II a try? Many consider it a high point for the ARPG genre, myself included :)

Yeah, the challenge here is less about complex, compelling combat and more about finding ways to min/max your build and climb the leaderboard.

I actually find Torchlight Infinite fun like really fun i love the cartoony art style and it reminds me a bit of Wildstar which i was a huge fan of i'm playing it on pc through steam and it looks great the world is cartoony and highly detailed classes are fucking fun like really fun and you feel like its worth your time even if you just play an hour visually it looks better then POE Diablo 3 and immortal i would go so far as to say it looks better then Diablo 4 to me but that just because i like that kind of art style yes it is made with mobile in mind and i would love a fully pc version with the same art style and i think that if thy take torchlight Infinite and make a bigger better version for PC that Diablo 4 would have competition

Nice! I'm happy to hear you're having so much fun with the game :) for a free game with a pretty harmless cash shop (you can "complete" endgame without spending a dime), it's gotten more hate than feels fair.
