Thank you for saying this. It was driving me CRAZY during the entire video. And to be more precise, they identify themselves as the Unangan or Unangas, and were named Aleut by the Russians. Only some Unangan people identify as Aleut.
@Jason Brown the Norse and dane Vikings created Dublin in Ireland in the 9th and 10th century. Netherlands in the 16th and 17th century invaded lots including England. Finland also in the 16th and 17th century were invading. The Danes conquered England from the 8th till 11th century and introduced Danelaw. What are you on about?
Having lived in Alaska courtesy of the U.S. Army and also cruised the Inside Passage with a visit to Sitka, this was a good video. One additional item to mention is the amount of trading that the American whaling fleet did with the Siberian coastal tribes, leading some of the to fly the American flag over their settlements. There was some interest in trying to purchase part of Siberia from the Russians, similar to what was done with Alaska. That would have been very interesting if it would have happened.
The information is great and the following video but the background music is distracting. Maybe a few odd notes or something that goes with the time . Still love the information.
The people of the Aleutian Islands are self named Unangan or Unangas. The Russians named them "Aleut". Some Aleutian people use this term, some do not. My husband is Unangax and uses both.
What did you find the most interesting about Russian Alaska?
I liked the way the Russian President, Anatoly Shitass eats his Stroganoth.
Were the Russian traders white or Mongolian?
FYI
The name,"Aleut", all letters are pronounced.
Al-e'-oot.

So, we're still saying "settled" when people from one country take over another country's land from the native people?
Name 5 countries that were not settled or name 5 countries that never tried to settle another?
Settle is way to polite and nice a word in this context
@Jason Brown Norway invaded Ireland, Netherlands invaded various countries, Sweden invaded Russia as did Finland.

Chukchi is used as derogative term to anyone who's not white. As well as talking about it indigenous people.
That is literally not true
