I've watched some of the Saudi League games and the overall feeling is exactly what you would expect, it all feels very plastic. The best games are obviously from the top 4 best teams bought by the kingdom and then you have basically an abysmal difference to the other teams which also reflects on attendance in stadiums which are pitiful. I thought from the beginning that this was a horrible investment if they were thinking about making their money back selling the leagues transmission rights as even the other best european leagues have problems doing that like the Bundesliga or the italian serie a that has lost a lot of the prestige it once had. Maybe their goal is to clean their name and the associations people make when they hear about them , which may work out for some time but frankly it all just seems like another horrible investment decision by the PIF trying to turn saudi into a tourist destination cause that's the only idea these guys seem to have.
There is no culture of sport in Saudi which means that things will get worse before it gets better. For football they need to generate some home grown talent by 2034 as opposed to relying on ageing stars like Ronaldo, Neymar and Benzema.
The reason why epl is so profitable and watched across the globe is the FANS!!!Fan have a connection and support their clubs through watching ,buying their kits! fans across the globe make sure they watch games involving their clubs, very few leagues in the world have fans supporting their clubs like epl.
Not so much flopping, more not living up to the unrealistic hype that came from the signings made and media. The reason? Just don’t have a grassroots footballing culture (just throwing money at players isn’t the answer) and Saudi culture isn’t appealing to most people. Their image just isn’t good.
Everyone will have different opinions on this which is absolutely fine, I have and will continue to enjoy the Saudi pro league! It’s certainly helped with the bigger names joining in terms of recognition but I think the young home grown talent has been good to see.
Football is flopping in Saudi Arabia with the biggest signings imaginable, while in small countries, especially New zealand, after nz and Australia hosted the 2023 women's world cup, football is skyrocketing in NZ, more than it ever had, young players with so much potential, going to big premier league clubs and euro clubs. New zealand is rapidly being colonised, if you will by football.
First, football makes a lot more from Tv viewership rather than stadium attendance. Second, they do make a lot outside Saudi Arabia rather than within and that's the goal, third can we give them time? Its been what? A year? Barely... Let's give them at least 5 years
They spent 1 billion+ you can say give them time, 1 billion can change an entire country 😂 also 8th division clubs get more than a pro league game, do you know how pathetic that is 😂
Because the saudi league is 💩 a few good players past their prime mixed with players who have no talent. Who wants to watch that 😂 the little Ronaldo fanboys will watch it but thats it. English womens teams play more exciting football and get more fans.
Because fans can see through the bs. One star playing against nobodies isn’t interesting. It was different when Ronaldo was with Man U & Real Madrid etc. Week in week out he played against other top players and opposition- that’s not the case in Saudi and everyone can see it. It’s a joke watching Ronaldo score against nobodies. Not worthy of your money, obviously
saudi clubs need to built the infrastructure of young talent players to make the league competitive and they need to improve their academy and schools for football for that buying superstars will increase views and fans of the club but in order for the league to grow, they need every club to be competitive and not just the top 4 clubs there only

you’re talking about how al riyadh and al ettifaq have low attendance, not many people support them, al riyadh are in the same city as al hilal, al nasser and al shabab so not many people support them and they choose to support the bigger clubs and al ettifaq isn’t supported much, due to their being an al ittihad
Football is about heritage, rivalries and club culture. For many it is a religion, how do you expect it to thrive in a country dominated by an actual religion? Hosting one time events like boxing matches etc is fine, the spectacle element will always be high there. Ask the average football supporter, "what team does Ronaldo, Benzema, Neymar or Mane play for?" Crickets. Al something will be the most likely answer. If they really want to build football over there they're going to have to build the legacy of their clubs and they're not going to do that JUST by buying iconic players who are going to come there to collect their retirement cheques. There needs to be a broader strategy that includes interclub tournaments at the highest levels i.e. Champions League. Perhaps a multi-region league like the villanised Super League where the best come to compete can work. Having the top 4 clubs from each continent play off for a Global Club Championship would be someting everyone would want to see. Then the Saudi clubs would have a chance to sell some of their truly talented local stars to other teams. The Saudi league could become a great feeder league for youngsters not just an attractive option for players in their prime or nearing the end of their careers. They have the money to make a such a thing happen. Hell I might even book a flight to Riyadh to watch Boca Juniors play Bayern Munich in the Global Cup Final if that ever happened.
The big 4 already have an established fan base...the problem is that the smaller teams don't have the same support, but I think that will be the next development...to increase investment in the smaller sides. New stadiums will be needed ( and have been been built quickly for the likes of el ettifaq and al shabab) hopefully, these new stadiums and the increase in the quality of local teams and the attraction of seeing the big boys will see the crowds at the smaller clubs take route. Also, once transportation improves that will make attendances go up too ( I hope!) Although the Saudis like their 4x4s so maybe that won't make too much difference. It's going to be hard...as youngsters these days want to associate with the stars for the glamour on social media. However, I think the Muslim societies need a release valve , and football can certainly provide that in the traditionally Conservative societies so while your observation is correct , certain muslim countries have well documented passion for the game eg turkey, Morocco, Egypt eg and even saudi have the rivalries and prestige with the big 4. They aren't starting from scratch...however to build a really competitive league is going to take time...and might well fail if the money runs out...but if they invest wisely...not wasting money on neymars..they can definitely move up the hierarchy. However, I can't see the saudi league really challenging the big 5 leagues any time soon.
if they came to india, it'll be a boom for Indian football. Though India have no oil money and double citizen policy , We are doing hardwork in our grassroot . In the coming ten years we will be boomed
We all know it doesn't. There are lots of good teams and clubs in South America and Africa too. Yet people generally watch the European leagues. Somehow football doesn't seem to be a national sport in Saudi Arabia. How many internationally known football players has Saudi Arabia produced? Offhand, I can't even think of a single one.
It takes decades for a country to build football glory. Just spending money randomly won't necessarily have any adverse effect. Good thing Saudi has a lot of money to spend for now but can't be so sure about the future tho.
@@vigneshjayakumar6252still now, the average attendance is 13000 plus. And it's around 13000 for last few seasons which is not bad given india's fifa ranking is around 100. If the national team can perform well in AFC Asian cup then attendance will increase a lot.
You could take all the big names out of English football and still it would still be the greatest league in the world. Why! because of the Fans and their love of the game and their clubs. Built over centuries. A hell of a lot longer than the existence of Saudi Arabia.

This is really good news! Stop the sportwashing
There's no sportswashing. This is league football, it's what every club in Europe does too. So I don't understand what the big deal is.

Bro, in Toowoomba, Qld, Australia, Me and the boys went to watch the local grand finals for our club. Keep in mind this is FQPL 3, like Under 14/15 to Women and Men. The stadium we were in could hold about 9,000 people. There were probably about 5,000 there. And your telling me that my local clubs are pulling more fans than Steven Gerrards Al Ettifaq with Jordan Henderson and the like. That blows my mind. 🤯🤯
There’s a better footballing culture in Australia than Saudi.
Wow. I live in Brisbane. I didn't know Toowoomba actually pulls such big numbers in football. Good to see!

I'd rather watch MLS... and I follow MLS but not as much as the top 4 to 5 euro leagues. Could careless about Saudi league my only interest is how many players are unhappy there.

These are horrible numbers considering football games in India attract decent numbers and we’re not even a football country!
Throwing insane amounts of money at football will NOT make saudi survive the oil extinction crisis..
Saudis don't Even like their own league.
You can buy all the stars you want, but you can’t make anyone care. Sport is about more than just the squad sheet, it’s also about history and passion. You can’t buy that.
Have not watched a single match. No idea what Al something team will win it. It's just not an important league with irrelevant clubs. I keep watching Champions League, La Liga, Premier.

They also bought the world cup
why you so obsessed then lol
@@Ikhlashasib10making a comment = obsessed ok lmao
There is no culture of sport in Saudi which means that things will get worse before it gets better. For football they need to generate some home grown talent by 2034 as opposed to relying on ageing stars like Ronaldo, Neymar and Benzema.
What’s the problem they can buy viewers and followers 😂
No big history just a decent pay check
The reason why epl is so profitable and watched across the globe is the FANS!!!Fan have a connection and support their clubs through watching ,buying their kits! fans across the globe make sure they watch games involving their clubs, very few leagues in the world have fans supporting their clubs like epl.
Not so much flopping, more not living up to the unrealistic hype that came from the signings made and media. The reason? Just don’t have a grassroots footballing culture (just throwing money at players isn’t the answer) and Saudi culture isn’t appealing to most people. Their image just isn’t good.
al hilal to al ittiihad is only 1 hour and not 11
Via car
by car not even 11 hours
"133 peolpe" - Goal 90
How is it flopping and it’s just been one year? 😂, the fact he made a video about it tells you something
5 more years, i feel like its only natural that these clubs sign even more big players once their existing players retire
There's a club in india which give biriyani for coming to this stadium for their home match. Saudi clubs should try something like that!
well ronaldo is not giving any impact after all
Far better than messi tho. That midget can't even attract 5 people to his league.
Nobodies really
saudi clubs need to built the infrastructure of young talent players to make the league competitive and they need to improve their academy and schools for football for that
buying superstars will increase views and fans of the club but in order for the league to grow, they need every club to be competitive and not just the top 4 clubs there only

you’re talking about how al riyadh and al ettifaq have low attendance, not many people support them, al riyadh are in the same city as al hilal, al nasser and al shabab so not many people support them and they choose to support the bigger clubs and al ettifaq isn’t supported much, due to their being an al ittihad
How much do the games typically cost? In dollars.
A very narrow minded and western propagonistic take on an up and coming football League.
However, I can't see the saudi league really challenging the big 5 leagues any time soon.
mate what? how is it flopping if it’s been less than 1 year 😂

Give it time for it to improve. Building a strong league takes years. Remember that football doesn't revolve around Europe, ok?
We all know it doesn't. There are lots of good teams and clubs in South America and Africa too. Yet people generally watch the European leagues. Somehow football doesn't seem to be a national sport in Saudi Arabia. How many internationally known football players has Saudi Arabia produced? Offhand, I can't even think of a single one.
It kinda does. And attendance isnt improving in Saudi Arabia
Abba-Money
It takes decades for a country to build football glory. Just spending money randomly won't necessarily have any adverse effect. Good thing Saudi has a lot of money to spend for now but can't be so sure about the future tho.
When the top 5 teams are against each other their is so many fans.
If it would be in India 🧡
Then it would be in Top 5 league in terms of attendance.
We have the shittiest attendance in the ISL as of now. Only kerala blasters , MBFC , East Bengal and Goa have attendance more than 10k+
How much has United, City, New castle and Chelsea has spent in last 10 years? Where was your passion stopping from spending that much money?
@@the4eyedowl341 thousand turn up each week to support their clubs that are not fans of City, United or Newcastle.
The money spent on players at those clubs is to mostly compete for "fickle" world audiences in Asia Africa china USA and of course the Middle East. You fail to understand real supporting fans turn up week in, week out regardless of success or money spent . It's sometimes built.

@@the4eyedowl341 I think one thing covid provid. That without supporters turning up at the grounds "regardless how much money is spent on their flamboyant mercenaries" the game and the clubs lacked any heart or soul and the spectacle wasn't even worth watching on TV. and to think all that money spent and they end up with PSG. The big clubs will eventually leave England and people will tire of it all. But there will still be football clubs, football fans and supporters. Real fans still want their clubs to battle like hell for the league cup "EFL'" and no matter where they are in the league they want them to spill blood to win their local Derbys.
@@michaeloshea5505 And you think Saudis don't care about their clubs? They don't have the kind of population England has and half of their population includes immigrants. Saudi fans has existed before some of these foreign players came in and will still do after they leave. Football is the most popular sport in Saudi and will be for a long time.
