Hey man, thanks for the guide! My Deck is arriving in a few days and I wanted to ask a question. I ordered a 1tb micro sd card for my deck. Do I need to use a separate card for my Emulation vs my Steam games? I'll probably emulate multipole consoles.
You are my hero. Nintendo has been bullying the PC gaming community for years by refusing to allow us to buy their games on our platform. Nintendo, if you're reading this comment, your did this to yourself. You declared war on emulation and game preservation in of itself. That's a war you can't win. Not legal, and surely not literally because the community will always fight back and never back down.
Nintendo is like a politician: Greedy, combative, anticompetitive and terrible to their people. Edit: What is with the blue grid paper in the background? :) I'm a science/math nerd, so am curious what you use the grid/protractor for.
Not to mention selling us games at premium prices on hardware which is years old. 🙄 No back catalogue either to play our beloved classics on is also just tragic!
Gotta say, "Ditch the Switch" is really catchy. I'm lucky to have a 1st gen switch from 2017, so I'll be dumping my roms soon enough. No way I'm paying for that joke of an online service anyway.
Since I have a v1 switch I had console modded it awhile back now I can get all of Nintendo's NSO games along with what they don't have without spending a dime on their service. Fan ports, emulation, mods, cheats, custom themes, ability to use a manga reader, watch video's in the form of mp4 off my sd card and much much more. No regrets. However since the steamdeck is quite recent I do want to save up for one someday when I can afford one. It just looks soo goood. Eldin Ring on the go! Yessss. Sadly I'm broke ;-; without a job so maybe in a few years or something. All I know for sure is that I don't feel the need to pick up another Nintendo console past the switch.
Thank you very much for you rvery detaield video!...something is not clear to me...how can I install yuzu on my microSD, since Discover automatically installs it on hte internal storage? Thank you.
Hey so I think it's best to leave the emulator where it is. However you can determine where you want games to be stored and I think that's what I was referring to in this video. For what it's worth, I would actually recommend looking at my recent EmuDeck video because I think it's a good way to manage multiple emulators including Switch. It even creates folders for games and bios files automatically for you. Here's the video: ruclips.net/video/AvzSHxccmIg/видео.html
Part of the main reason PC gaming does not appeal to me as much anymore; is the time I spent obsessively tweaking settings to find the best performance for my rig; until I just got the most powerful laptop at the time (which still runs alot of current games well). It is even more hoops to jump through to get romsets and emulators working correctly (even for older games). I'm not going to even get into the hoops to get current Switch games on the market; even to play on a modified Switch or the possible consequences of that. The Steam Deck is more powerful than the Switch; no question. However, it is not as convenient unless you have the time to make it somewhat worth it. I don't have the time because of the job I have; which allows me the convenience of buying the games I want (also having too many games becomes a problem as well; whether they cost alot of money or not). I appreciate that the Steam Deck exists; as it will stir up competition (and hopefully light a match under Nintendo's rear to get it it together) as well as demonstrate that we want more devices like this; but as it stands; this is not going to replace my Switch or Laptop (which I barely use for gaming as is). I do hope this thing sells like crazy though.
Keep up the good work! It's a shame only 11k people get notified about your videos. I think the whole steam deck community should see them! Your videos are literally perfect. Information density, video editing, summary are all on point. There's honestly nothing to improve. Keep up the good work!
Just wanted to share a little trick: When in desktop mode there is an easier way to add an application to steam. Just right-click it's launcher icon (left trackpad click) and you will find a "add to steam" option.
This is great. Thanks for sharing. I first got into hacking systems when Nintendo refused to make more Mini NES consoles. In my frustration, youtube recommended a video about making my own with a Raspberry pi.
May someone help me. I am trying to launch yuzu roms through a USB Stick. Whenever I remove the usb stick, yuzu does not recognize the files even when I plug it back in. I have to remove existing folder and add a new one. Is there a fix to this?

It seems that changes were made to the steam deck. It won't open the file location for the keys, and has hid the files. I can't find a way to open them. And the next day there is a update and I can add files now.
I don't _actually_ suggest ditching your switch. I just thought that was funny. No battery life doesn't compare to Switch. That said, I haven't touched my Switch other than to make this video lol. I really prefer the Steam Deck.
Getting around 3hr 15min in Metroid Dread on my Steam Deck, even though that's 2hr less than on my Switch OLED, it's definitely a much better way to play thanks to the ergonomics of the Deck and the profoundly better joysticks for this game
Nah I definitely prefer to play my switch games on my switch rather then the deck. As you said the battery last way longer, it’s an oled screen and I use the pro split pads so the buttons are nice and big for me or I just dock it and use a pro controller. If I playing on the deck the screen and battery is worse, docking most emulated games gives it a stroke and the joysticks are just way to small for me, especially with the placement of the dpad making it harder for me to use the left stick and messing with my muscle memory.
@@562.anthony2 same fam, I got an ergonomic grip case for my switch, and joystick caps, so I still very much prefer to play Switch games on my Switch OLED

The emulation capabilities have really blown me away, and in a lot of the videos I’ve seen people didn’t even have good settings and they still got very good performance. It can actually emulate ps3 and switch, that’s fucking wild
Let's not forget either that most people demoing the use of Yuzu / Ryujinx are doing so in docked mode. If you are happy with the lower fidelity of portable mode (and on a 7" screen you may well be) then this may result in better performance / battery life.
I'm glad that Nintendo finally got competition for their Switch. I didn't get a Switch. Other than Mario, Zelda and Metroid, I'm don't really like Nintendo as much as back in the NES and Super NES days back when Nintendo had their marbles together. Thus, I've just been waiting for a GOOD non-Switch handheld gaming system. I hope that Sony creates another handheld gaming system too. A PS5 like system on the go would be EXCELLENT!!
From Yuzu or RuJinx on the steam deck how to do get back the main menu without exiting and starting up the emulator again (is there a quick button or button combo that allows you do that)?

I've been out of the emulation game for a long time but with a Deck on the way the idea is becoming more and more appealing, playing some old PS1/PS2 games would be great. I have a switch already but emulating that would be nice too. For older consoles ROMs were always relatively easy to find, how is it for Switch games these days?
I can't add yuzu as a non steam game, steam doesn't "see" the program no matter where I move it on the folders and it's not listed as an app despite opening just fine multiple times. Even copy/pasting right to the folder location and clicking "show all files" instead of just executables shows... nothing. I can't get yuzu on game mode, has anyone else had this issue?
controls are not working for me, up is right down is left cant use the buttons/ tried everthign, any help would be appreciated. also getting alot of black screens then crash on alot of games
I have the problem that not all my switsch games are recognized. For example: breath of the wild is recognized, but link's awakening. Like other games. How can I fix this. What is the reason?
While I don't have a Steam Deck, yuzu emulation through steam is proving troublesome. I can't configure any controller on Yuzu when using Steam Link (or even when just running on the pc anyway) - Steam only gives me the virtual steam controllers and Yuzu doesn't seem to recognize its input. I mean, how would you go adding a second controller to, like the switch, get some instant couch co-op going? I'm also on linux, which is basically what the Deck uses.
Yeah. I've had a GPD Win Max for almost 2 years and that's been my daily driver for games. It wasn't powerful enough for most Switch emulation. But the Steam Deck actually is 🎉
when i install a dlc or update to the nand on the steam deck, where does it save to? also has anyone had any luck playing xcom2 war of the chosen? for me it just infinite boots and doesnt go any where. and the base game wont let me continue past the tutorial despite having installed the update
Please cover other Switch Emulators. Yuzu is getting a lot of free press because of this debacle, but Ryujinx, and Skyline are both great Switch Emulators, and Linux compatible.
Will do. I went with yuzu first for a couple reasons - it's what I use regularly use on my desktop and it has a flatpak. I wanted to make this first video as 101 as possible
I have no SD card. Copy files directry from a pendrive (with a dock) is ok? I also can't file the Yuzu folder, when I click to open folder, nothing happens.
Hi, last update of yuzu on steam deck freeze all games . before update still work fine. How can do ? via appimage works with old version , but via flatpak no. thanks
Thanks for posting this video. I am making progress :) When I load yuzu I do not have the title bar across the top (file,emulation,view....etc) and when I manage to get a game to load it pops up (there is not data to load) and I am stuck there.
would test yugioh master duel (free to play) on the steam deck? there is a is a issue with xinput controllers in the steam version under windows and i just want to know if it functions under steamos :) the issue is the buttons are all switched and same do not even work at all, making it unplayable with xbox controllers on pc.

You can set Plasma (the Desktop environment) to automount SD cards and USB drives if you want.
It's based on device, so you can set it to not automount by default and then if you have an SD card or USB you want to always be mounted, you can tell Plasma to automount that.
Good point; thank you!

Hello when I click on File -> open yuzu Folder nothing happens to me. I installed it normally
For anyone else that couldn't get the Yuzu folder to open when selecting that option in the File menu, try restart your Steam Deck. If that doesn't work reinstall Yuzu and restart as that worked for me.
I'll add a path to my pinned comment too
Thanks - that's the issue I'm having with Yuzu, so for now I just have a path written down to nav to.
You threw the switch and I subscribed instantly. You got Moxy and I like that
I'm still waiting for Golf Story for PC myself, got the roms and I gave it a try.
Yep, it looks great! Can't wait to buy it. Any day now.
Where you get the roms from?
Might update this process to Ryunjix at least.
Good plan for the games you showcased, hopefully after LTT does a video on this topic, Nintendo will calm down and allow RUclipsrs to show any switch game emulated. Fingers crossed! And thanks for another great quality video, can't wait to give this a shot with my steam deck when it comes in Q2 :D
I hope they do calm down for sure. It’s pretty ridiculous
@@FanTheDeck Yeah their censorship of content has gotten really out of hand, sucks :/

thanks bro, i loved that
also great video!! still crossing fingers i get email next monday
😂 you know what i'm talking about!
Good luck!
I can’t wait to play all of my switch games on my steam deck. No pun intended here, all hands on deck
3 days and it's still up
Good luck Deck!
Yesssss
this is awesome! im almost considering getting a steam deck for this alone
Nice!
You should
Excellent content! I have subscribed for more. Thank you for your work :)
Awesome! Welcome aboard!
Nintendo has been
bullying the PC gaming community for years by refusing to allow us to buy their games on our platform. Nintendo, if you're reading this comment, your did this to yourself. You declared war on emulation and game preservation in of itself. That's a war you can't win. Not legal, and surely not literally because the community will always fight back and never back down.
I love Nintendo games but this stance of theirs is hypocritical for sure.
No back catalogue either to play our beloved classics on is also just tragic!
This pocket PC is nothing new and it was gonna be made regardless.
@@Kennosuke88 There are a lot of reasons that they do that actually and they do make sense indeed
I highly doubt that this will be wide spread thing on a first place, but i simply love what people can do with this hardware
Gotta say, "Ditch the Switch" is really catchy. I'm lucky to have a 1st gen switch from 2017, so I'll be dumping my roms soon enough. No way I'm paying for that joke of an online service anyway.
I want to make a Ditch the Switch t-shirt. It's too fun to say lol.
Too bad the switch never really rose to the potential it could have....
Probably because it's a lot to develop for decent power
Glad u and ETA Prime got your Decks now I can watch your coverages while I wait for mine and while they iron out the Windows issues.
Keep up the good work! It's a shame only 11k people get notified about your videos. I think the whole steam deck community should see them!
Your videos are literally perfect. Information density, video editing, summary are all on point. There's honestly nothing to improve. Keep up the good work!
Wow that's amazing praise. Thank you! I'll keep going!
That's how big the steam deck community is lol
@@redcrimson1028 for now, it will become bigger than other consoles, just like pc
Still up, awesome!
Good luck, hope this video still stays up
I got mine yesterday. I am loving it so far. It's been absolutely amazing!
Im just glad that my Smash Ultimate Rom plays well on my Deck
Just wanted to share a little trick: When in desktop mode there is an easier way to add an application to steam. Just right-click it's launcher icon (left trackpad click) and you will find a "add to steam" option.
You know I've seen this and I forget about it every time. Thank you!!
Love my Steam Deck, it's everything that the Switch could and should have been.
Fantastic video.
Muchly appreciated.
I bought a Nintendo Switch for me and my sons, and Zelda: BOTW for each of us.
I've been the only one unable to play.
I get hand cramps due to the small diameter of the sticks and the base.
I can finally join my kids in playing this game.
"Open Yuzu folder" doesnt work for me.. Any idea why?
This has happened to me before. Try this path: /home/deck/.var/app/org.yuzu_emu.yuzu/data/yuzu/keys
Also, you may want to use EmuDeck instead of downloading Yuzu directly. I made this video before EmuDeck was a thing. Here's my latest EmuDeck video: ruclips.net/video/V1IzF5ml59A/видео.html
Hope nintendo doesn't take this down! Hoping for the best for ya :D
i subbed as soon at you yeeted the switch omg
liked and subscribed, both for the useful video, and to see what the leviathan does. I agree they don't have a leg to stand on here, but that's never stopped them before. Best of luck.
Already ordered the PSVita 2 and it's on its way :D
I can't wait for my Deck to arrive "after Q3 2022" xD
If you can get KDE Connect on the deck it'll make it easier to move files from your phone (android) to the deck.
You got my sub. I'm excited to see how well this glorious machine runs emulation. Can't wait till mine arrives. I'm in the q2 run so it may be a while for me.
When I click open Yuzu folder nothing happens. Anyone know the folder path?
Try this: /home/deck/.var/app/org.yuzu_emu.yuzu/data/yuzu/keys
@@FanTheDeck thank you so much. I'm really like your content. I've found the path but I'm running into a different problem. I can't add a folder to the game list. When i Double click to add a new folder to the game list it will let me navigate to my roms folder but I can't select it. Do you have any idea?
finally! now i can play spelunky 2, on the go on a powerful pc! this is groundbreaking /s
this is actually awesome, thank you for showing this off
I have wondered how the Steam Deck would compare to Switch and now I know its a close 2nd and I can't wait to save up for one and get this
It seems that changes were made to the steam deck. It won't open the file location for the keys, and has hid the files. I can't find a way to open them. And the next day there is a update and I can add files now.
I hear all of this but is the battery life worth choosing a deck over a switch??
I don't _actually_ suggest ditching your switch. I just thought that was funny. No battery life doesn't compare to Switch. That said, I haven't touched my Switch other than to make this video lol. I really prefer the Steam Deck.
@@FanTheDeck holy smokes did THE FAN THE DECK himself just reply tommy comment?? Loool now that I was not expecting but thanks so much man😁😁😁

Will you do update guide or step by step on how to hack switch?
I been playing a lot TOTK. Got over 500+ hrs in TOTK. I want transfer my save and TOTK to pc. But is the hack permanent ? Cus at some time I may way buy digital game for my switch.
What are the best setting to change in yuzu to get the most performance? Im noticing slowdowns in some games? Im playing with vulkan on.
Ninja Saviors isn’t a sequel to the SNES game. It’s a remake. It IS a sequel to Ninja Warriors original arcade game from 1987.
TIL!!
Hopefully all this will be much smoother and streamlined by time I get my deck in Q2
A PS5 like system on the go would be EXCELLENT!!
oh god, i Finally found a game that i always play when i still kid, it's ninja warrior thanksss :D glad that youtube recommend this video to me..
Cool video man keep it up.
I'm downloading quick before this video goes down lol
🤣😭
From Yuzu or RuJinx on the steam deck how to do get back the main menu without exiting and starting up the emulator again (is there a quick button or button combo that allows you do that)?
When i add yuzu lik non steam game it works but when i click on play it pops options like repaur unistall it dosent open like yours
Awesome man thanks so much for the video how to 👍 can I request you do a how to video on pcsx2 for steam deck also please ? I watched the phawx do his but he rushes his videos & doesn't go into deeper detail making it alot harder for amateurs like me to understand what he does or even means most of the time.
Yup I got you! Was this level of detail good?
@Fan The Deck yes 🙌 was very helpful thankyou so much😁👍... just remember plenty of people who have never emulated before will probably be getting the steam deck too & trying this themselves.
As much as I appreciated the phawx's how to install pcsx2 on deck it still left me with plenty of questions & didn't fully understand what he was even talking about.🙄
Please do a video easy enough for amateurs to follow on how to install pcsx2 on deck dude 🙏 absolutely love the content you make by the way 👍
One quick question, works great for me one thing I pull my hair out is to make work with YUZU two controller for example play Mario Kart I connected a PS4 controller works great on Deck Games but YUZU doesn't recognise well when I set on configuration doesn't recognise anymore none of then until start? would be great have a video showing how to set properly on steam deck
Even copy/pasting right to the folder location and clicking "show all files" instead of just executables shows... nothing. I can't get yuzu on game mode, has anyone else had this issue?
there are hardly any video about steam deck with yuzu, I mean I really need to know how well it runs with yuzu.
Nintendo is taking them down. This was an attempt to make a yuzu video Nintendo can't take down
@@FanTheDeck thats is very concerning, Nintendo should be dealt with, they abusing power, and its extreme unethical.
controls are not working for me, up is right down is left cant use the buttons/ tried everthign, any help would be appreciated. also getting alot of black screens then crash on alot of games
The first thing I thought when seeing the title of this video and before watching "Lets see how long this video is up before Nindendont takes it down"
What's your bet?
what about DLC? like the Cindered Wolves DLC for Fire Emblem Three Houses?
I have the problem that not all my switsch games are recognized. For example: breath of the wild is recognized, but link's awakening. Like other games. How can I fix this. What is the reason?
How can I directly start the games from gaming mode? So that I can see all the games in the steam thing
Se puede usar un lápiz óptico Wacom como puntero?
It's cool, but there is no "SAVE STATE" function. You can only move saves into a folder from a Switch at this point.
How did you turn on the screen key board in the search menu on steam deck?
10:10 you waited for a pc port even tho you could emulate it on pc this whole time?
Yeah. I've had a GPD Win Max for almost 2 years and that's been my daily driver for games. It wasn't powerful enough for most Switch emulation. But the Steam Deck actually is 🎉
Follow guide and it does not dump the Title.keys. It only dumps the Prod.keys. Everyting is updated. Switch OFW, CFW, Hekate, and Lockrim
when i install a dlc or update to the nand on the steam deck, where does it save to? also has anyone had any luck playing xcom2 war of the chosen? for me it just infinite boots and doesnt go any where. and the base game wont let me continue past the tutorial despite having installed the update
Q3 22 here, I am eager to test this!
Half the games on yuzu don't even get past the first cutscene for me. Yuzu crashes every time. No idea why.
would test yugioh master duel (free to play) on the steam deck?
there is a is a issue with xinput controllers in the steam version under windows and i just want to know if it functions under steamos :)
the issue is the buttons are all switched and same do not even work at all, making it unplayable with xbox controllers on pc.
Can any switch game be emulated on the deck?
