Excellent explanations about the market. I totally agree with the comments. I’ve paid some decent money for Nike/Jordans that have terrible QC issues that I feel like moving to more affordable and higher quality brands.
@@-Ehrenbruder-Sam- Jordan 3s and 4s has the worst quality. The back heels fade and top of it cracks off and the paint on sole always seem to crack after few wears. This has to be one of the most comprehensive list of reasons why Jordans are bricking, but I think another important reason might be buyers fatigue. Nike is pushing out stuff at pace that most people cant keep up with all the releases. But by far two factors that might be most responsible are, 1- Increased prices and 2- Worse quality. Just for comparison, I recently bought Adidas Forum 84 Mids, and ATMOS x Adidas Forum 84 High Collab, the prices for each sneaker were well below Jordan 1's and the quality of leather was far superior compared to what NIKE is pushing these days. I would disagree that Reps are the reasons, as most teens and young adults once get spare cash will be trying to get their hands on real thing. Kind of like Bill Gates saying, Piracy made Microsoft so huge. I personally dont own Reps, but may be in the future if I get too desperate for a sneaker that I love too much. And all this hatred towards people wearing Reps by mostly resellers, GTFO here Resellers. Overall NIKE cares very little for their customers and are busy milking nostalgia and HYPE it creates, as for collabs, there are far few good ones, but the prices could keep them out of most peoples range. I personally will never pay for sneaker that costs several times more to its original retail, I missed the chance to own one, well life is all about compromises. Great content as usual.
I have been a sneakerhead for almost 30 years and I make my own sneakers. I can make a pair with higher quality that is one of a kind. I don't care about legit kicks having someone smelling the carcinogen glue to check it's legitimacy. I also thrift and customize like you said. I'll check thrift stores and use the for donor soles. I don't understand why hype beasts care what other people wear just cause it dilutes their Bitcoin resell market. If a shoe is dope it's done and it should be worn and experienced. Nike doesn't care about it's customers just profit and nostalgia.
Story time lol I know it is what it is at this point but, it genuinely bothers me that these sneaker reseller terms are virtually indistinguishable from actual sneaker culture nowadays. A "brick" should only matter to a reseller. Not to consumers. That's like me not shopping at a certain store because of what a stock investor thinks about the store's stock price 🤷🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️. All we should care about is if it's in stock. Because that's what benefits us. Referencing a sneaker as a "brick" is to literally complain that it doesn't benefit the reseller, which is essentially being upset because resellers can't eat, but we can. That's some Stockholm syndrome ish right there 🤣😂🤣 If you don't plan on reselling a sneaker and the sneaker didn't sell out, it didn't brick. It's just, you know, in stock. If you wanted to get a PS5 and could actually walk into the store and buy one, did it brick or is it just, you know, in stock? While I have an appreciation for resellers as they've always been a part of sneaker culture, I do find a lot of the modern ones cringey and a bit hypocritical. I mean, thanks for the kicks but, let's not pretend that you have a completely honest business model providing a necessary service if you're violating store policy to get your inventory. When I was growing up, resellers bought extra pairs to sell in markets where the shoe wasn't available or grabbed unwanted kicks that went on sale or dead stock (actual dead stock) and stored them until people started hunting for new pairs. That actually serves a need. You're getting people kicks they couldn't get otherwise. But, most of today's resellers, even the good ones, are simply inserting themselves into a transaction that really didn't need them. They aren't offering a service. They're interrupting the flow of goods to exploit and profit. I mean, that's in a lot of businesses so it's completely normal. But, just because it's normal doesn't make it good. When reselling wasn't this massive cultural phenomenon, you simply bought the shoe you wanted and didn't have to worry about paying more. Sure, you might have to wait in line or drive for a bit but, the sneaker transactional flow went brand➡️store➡️consumer. No one was mad at that model. Resellers just realized that demand was crazy so if they could stand in-between the brand and the customer or even in some cases the brand and the store, they could control profits and hike up prices on the end user. Smart business move. But it exploits people who enjoy the hobby and brings a ton of speculators hoping to become the next great plug or even average consumers trying to hit the sneaker lottery. Speculators almost always upset the markets they flock to. Stocks, real estate, beanie babies, gaming consoles. It doesn't matter.
He bro Great story 🤣🤣🙌🏾🙌🏾 That was a good read bro and I totally get what you’re saying and broadly speaking, agree entirely. Sneaker lingo has changed and developed alongside the culture alot over the years. A brick isn’t always a pejorative imo, it can sometimes just refer to the fact that a shoe is “in stock”, not just that it’s not commanding resell. I’ll concede the term was born out of reseller nomenclature to describe a shoe that can’t be resold but it’s also used less harshly to describe something that’s “sitting” like a brick does in a wall. Your point about reselling are bang on and I really enjoyed your comment

I've been in and out of sneaker culture for a while now and now that I'm back in I feel like it's the best time to get started. General releases can still be dope. Just clicking the "under retail" button in my size gives me a huge selection of dope shoes. So right now is a great time and I don't care what's falling off. For the price 550s are dope. Airmax 1/90/95/97 are dope. And getting something like Fire Red 3s or Taxi 1s gets a really good start to a new collection again.
