Pula is my hometown, I was born there. It's pity you didn't visit the 19 century-old center of Pula, which was built by the Austrians when Pula was the main harbor of the Austro-Hungarian fleet. There are some fine examples of Austrian architecture in Pula that give Pula a real "Little Vienna" touch. There is also a medieval Venetian Castle called Kaštel in the old town of Pula, not far away from the Forum you have visited (5 minutes by walking)., with a spectacular view. Other parts of town are mainly new, built after WW2, and not so attractive to tourists (with exception of swimming, fun, and recreation activities).
However, there are Brijuni (Brioni) Islands near Pula (actually, near Fažana, 8 km away from the center of Pula). It is a National Park. The archipelago used to be a hub for the European elite before WW2 and later the summer residence of ex-YU president Tito. The main island is filled with monuments (the remains of the Roman Villa Rustica Verige, Byzantine Castrum, etc., as well as wonderful Mediterranean nature).
If you're still in Istria, don't miss the medieval town of Motovun, located on the top of the hill and surrounded by medieval (Venetian) walls, as well as Poreč with its UNESCO site Byzantine Basilica of Euphrasius (6th century AD) with fabulous golden mosaics. But you can visit all of that some other time. Enjoy your trip.

Keep in mind that there is just one Colosseum and this is one in Rome. With the time has got that name. In the past useg to be calld Arena too. Arena means sand in Latin. Nowdays we are saying Colosseum because it used to be a colossal staute of the Emperor Nero in the front of the Amphitheatre. This one in Pula and in Verona are called Arena. Arena in Pula, as far as I remember is the second most preserved one in the whole world after Colosseum in Rome and also one of the few largest ones.In addition, in Croatian second largest city of Split there are impressive and huge remains of the largest Roman palace buildt by the Roman emperor Diocletian in 4th century AD that are absolutely worth visiting! In the nearby Solin there are also many remains of the Roman times as same as in the Zadar and some other cities. Remains from this time can be seen even in the continental Croatia. That is pure manipulation that has the nationalist and expansionist agenda to claim exclusive Italian right at the territory of the all Istria! Modern Italy has as much common with the Romans as any other Mediterranean country regardless of it's central territorial position in ancient Roman empire! People in Italy and all other Mediterranean countries are nothing but complex mixture of Romans and many other tribes that came here throughout middle ages! So no one holds exclusive rights on Roman heritage no matter how hard many Italians hold that to be true!

Istria became an Italian region of the Roman Empire in 200BC "Venetia et Histria", then it became Venetian and always Italian till 1947. More than 2000 years of continuous latin/venetian/italian identity and you call it Croatia? Beyond ridiculous........

That water looks like how I remember the water in the Greek islands in the 70's - breathtaking! I love ancient history so the Roman buildings are a big plus, too. I hope you can get your vaccinations soon; in central/southern California, anyone over 16 can now be vaccinated. (Each county is at a different stage, probably depending on their population, but we expect everyone to be vaccinated by June 1.)

I'm stoked as to how happy my hometown has made you! :-)
The "old building made of stone" is the seat of Pula/Pola's mayor, the Communal Palace, and it was built in 1296. You'll also notice that the city's official name is Pula/Pola, Pola being its Italian name. Officially, the city is bilingual just as whole of Istria is. It used to be Austria-Hungary's main war port and it had a tram between 1904 and 1934. The place you soaked your feet at towards the end of the video is called Saccorgiana and it used to be a ramp to unload tanks and motorized infantry units from military ships when the city was part of the Kingdom of Italy between 1919 and 1947.
Also, you should've gone to have a look at the network of underground tunnels called Zerostrasse built by Austria-Hungary for faster infantry movement in case of an air raid or invasion.
When Naick said he was hungry I thought you would've gone for a pizza in Jupiter, one of the best pizzerias in town, super close to the city walls you visited.
Anyhow - love your videos and your channel! Keep up the good work and looking forward to checking out your next adventure! :-)

@@NaickKim You're welcome! I'm sure Pula/Pola would only become richer with folks like you two moving there! :-) In recent years, it's become a popular place among digital nomads, for instance.
It is a nice place to live. The County of Istria and Zagreb are statistically the wealthiest parts of the country, and Pula/Pola interestingly was the only city in Croatia had a population increase in the last three years! Also, in terms of tourism, Istria is the most visited tourist destination in whole of Croatia (before Dubrovnik, Split and all of Dalmatia!).
Unfortunately, business took me to Switzerland but my family and closest friends still live in Pula/Pola so I go back quite often. Would you be heading back, feel free to drop me a message for some local tips & tricks which I'd be more than happy to share :-)

Thank you for this nice video. I am also an citizen of Pula and I never ever would like to move away from here.
But, there is also a downside in your video.
As you are travelling as campers, please be advised that wild camping in Croatia is not allowed and you should register your stay at camping sites or at least check with the local municipalities where and under which circumstances your stay is legal.
I am sure that you have not littered around, but sometimes it is a mess, some campers leave on spots they left after a night, one nationality is outstanding in this discipline without to mention it now (it is not Belguim for sure).
Just a small advice, other than that enjoy Croatia, enjoy also the other spots along the coast!!!! Stay safe and bring more of your videos!! :)

I'm so glad you have seen the Mediterranean water! If you'd gone to Spain, as I suggested, you'd be heading to finnesterre in some way. You went Marco Polo. You might skip Greece, but I've thought that the food I've seen in travel videos made Greek food look especially well done. I go to a couple Turkish tapa places in Washington and have enjoyed the Turkish company. I've know a bartender from Bulgaria whose modest love of where he's from makes me want to go there. There are two lilac bushes in my neighborhood just beginning to bloom. They smell like lilacs! My Bulgarian friend has mentioned the smell of roses. I didn't know about Pula's amphitheater. In 1949 my parent went on a delayed honeymoon to Rome and I have a photo of them by the Colosseum. (Thank goodness for spellcheck. I think colosseum must be easier to spell in Spanish.) My mother threw out her passport and my father and a hotel employee had to go through the trash to find it. I bet trash was simpler back then. And there you guys were next to a modest little Roman temple (I've met people in bars like that) and an arena that fit 20,000 Roman citizens. Who's you're favorite rock star? A pretty good venue even today. I'm not a croissant guy. I prefer dough with eggs. Not too much sugar. I'd prefer a yeast dough around my cheese. But I know I'd love the foods you've tried in that vein in Croatia. The french fries with the veal in the pretty town near Zagreb in the spring looked like the best ever. The sea was so clear.
I knew another bartender whose father ran a hotel on a Croatian island. It surely wasn't idyllic but could sound that way. Your van is an idyll. I noticed you sometimes demur and call it a car. I heard tonight that van travel has become a thing. You're doing the thing well. You're becoming more skilled. I started watching you in Mexico. Another America, yet America. El mismo, pero diferente. Then I fell into Taiwan, as you did. The other videos I need to catch up on.
Pula has the Roman ruins I've read about in Merida, Spain, plus a way out. To Turkey! With the sadness going on in Syria, which makes Covid like a side event except for those who suffer from it, as well as the troubles in Armenia and Azerbaijan and eastern Ukraine, I bet you won't go to China. The situation of the Uighurs is troubling. Turkey is bold enough! Good luck. And good luck getting back to Belgium for a vaccination. I should get one soon. If the EU has had problems re Covid, it will learn.
Happy Easter week! We can only know so many people. Love fewer. But remember that in the vastness of God's creation you were created as individuals whom you let us see and I think you spread joy. God's eye is on the sparrow. How much more us? You're a lively website! Thanks.

Oh yes it definitely feels good to be back in the Mediterranean. Spain was our first choice, but it's really hard to travel there now with a lot of restrictions and lockdowns.
We really love visiting these historic places. Over 2000 years of history there, hard to fathom.
Kim isn't really into rock music, but for me, I really like Guns 'n Roses. More modern day, I'd say the black keys.
So far really enjoying life in our van. We're also eager to travel to more exotic places again like China, Mexico, or wherever we can go really. Happy to be healthy and to be traveling.

    Hi Naick & Kim,
I started watching your videos from the trips of Romania, long before you came to Taiwan. I am really happy to see you continue your journey.
I has been to Turkey three times. It's a very fascinating country, and vast territory.
The following is a list of attractions that I think are great.
    First, Istanbul.
In addition to the must-visit Hagia Sophia, Blue mosque, I think Topkapi Palace is very beautiful, where you can experience the glorious history of the Ottoman Empire.
I also highly recommend the Suleymaniye Mosque. You can enjoy the view of the Golden Horn(Haliç) from the rooftop cafe next to it.
The view of Pierre Loti Cafe behind The Eyüp Sultan Mosque is also amazing.
The streets and alleys of Istanbul are full of exotic colors, I love Istanbul so much.
Second, I also recommend you to go to the areas along the Aegean Sea.
For example, Ephesus in Izmir (the huge ancient Greek ruins) , and the nearby Greek small town Sirince.
Don't miss the snow-white Pamukkale. Remember to bring your swimwears, because there is a hot spring pool above Pamukkale, and the beautiful Hierapolis ancient city just ocated at the top.
If you have plenty of time, you might as well visit Eastern Turkey.
    Martin, the honey-colored border town.
    Gaziantep, the hometown of pistachios.
Şanlıurfa, the Holy city in Islam.
There are too many fun places, even if you have three months, you can't finish it. Just pick the places you are interested in and enjoy it.
If later on your way back to Belgium, you have the opportunity to cross the Transfăgărășan Road in Romania, it would be perfect.
    Bon Voyage.
