During my 5 years in the Air Force, Thule was alwas the running joke "If you mess up they will send yo to Thule." That was 40 years ago and this is my first time ever seeing the base. I kindda see what they ment. It`s every more isolated than I thought.
Late Jan to March 1968....still looks the same...newer Taxis maybe.....I cried leaving the dining hall behind......came in on a C 124, left on a c 141.
I went TDY here in spring of '97. Only a few days tho while repairing a C-141 from McGuire. Wasn't much to do, but it provides a fun story to share with others. ✌️🖖
Block heater. If it's below -13C/8F keep it running. All vehicles run JP8 instead of regular diesel in all vehicles due to its' extended low-temp resilience. Heater plug ins are disabled from around June-Sept.
You're the second person I've seen having knowledge of the temperature of a well digger's ass. The first is my father who's dealt with many a well digger as an excavator for 40+ years.

It seems exciting. Did you see any polar bears?
@@thedarknessunderneathpodca6366 sadly no polar bears. But I did see arctic foxes ❄️🦊 , sometimes called polar foxes 😀
@@zodszoo this kinda looks fun for three months.
@@thedarknessunderneathpodca6366I'm sure it totally depends on the type of person you are. And definitely wanna choose the timeframe wisely. Lol.
@@zodszoo I wanna write a horror script or novella that takes place there. Perfect setting. The storm period seems like it would be fun.

I know its cold af.there. what do they do with the vehicles? In Alaska, you plug in a block heater or keep it running.
