Condos are rent controlled too (only exception is waterfront condos). If a landlord wants to increase the rent by an exorbitant amount, then he/she will have to evict the tenant, stay in the condo for a few months, and then rent the condo out again. This usually is a cumbersome process for landlords, and doesn’t often happen.

1. Is there any rule that only 2 people can stay in 1 bed room appartment ? Incase parents visit for few months..can they stay in same appartment.. like in your case ? How did you managed?

Condos are under rent control and covered by the same law as apartments. A tenant cannot be evicted or asked for a rent increase more than the yearly declared % without purpose[ofcourse the unit has to be in rent control] and every tenant has the right to reach out to LTB if they think that rent increase is not justified. This needs a correction in your video. Thanks

Awesome video as usual 👏 if i may suggest, the first thing would be to assess how big the place is... So at some point you could just do a simple walk around of the whole place to give us an idea. The zoom ins on each object or corner doesn't give us that idea/feel of overall size of the apartment. Just a suggestion. Subbed!!

Great video! Loved the view from the balcony. One correction is that rent is controlled in condos as well by law. Your landlord cannot increase your rent by their own choice. There’s a set maximum percentage which I’m guessing is just around 1-2%.
There is a law of rent control. But when you rent a condo, landlord may not extend your lease for any personal reason. So you always have that insecurity. Second, landlord may say that I cannot extend the lease roght now as I need to do a quick renovation. So for that time find another rental and once renovation is done You can start a new lease with me. And that new lease may be much over priced than what you were paying earlier. So yeah these are the tactics that lanlords may apply to increase the rent. But with rental buildings that are managed by a company that generally doesn’t happen.
@@InTheNorthCanada Yes you are right. Some landlords are greedy but not all but as you said rental apartments don’t have this issue.
@@sohamvyawahare6492 I agree with Soham. It depend on landlord greediness. However, the landlord will think twice before increasing the rent. The landlord do not want the hassle of selecting the new tenant, and if the tenant is nice I personally do not think the landlord will try to shoo sway the tenant unless required for their personal use.
You guys took a nice apartment and made it into an incredibly cozy home :) Not sure who was responsible for the decor but my wife decorated our Calgary home almost the exact same way. Maybe it’s a desi thing? Lol. Great content guys!

Do you also pay the monthly house insurance along with the rent. And do you pay the annual property tax or does the owner pay it. And last qs how far is your house from downtown Toronto.
When you rent you have to pay tenant insurance. It just costs around $12 to $14 a month. And this is an apartment not a condo so there is no landlord. The building is managed by a management company. You don’t have to pay a separate property tax or something

Hi is it allowed to hang pictures on wall in rental apts and if yes how is it done
Depends on the wall- if it is very dense you would need drill machine. We would suggest to avoid heavy objects because then they need drilling and you want to keep the drilling of walls to the minimum. We hung most of the things with nail and the good old hand held hammer 🔨

which one is costly apartment or houses for rent ?
Houses are more costly if you are renting the whole house. But if you are just going for a room or the basement then it would be cheaper to rent than an entire apartment
