Kevin is a really compelling character almost like the protagonist of an anime where he is meant to save the world get the girl and live happily ever after in the end, but Honkai is simply such a cruel world that even a pure and driven soul such as he has been eroded and broken with time. Honkai really has this cosmic horror feeling of humans being unable to resist these powerful beings so far beyond us no matter how much we try with our only option being despair or becoming more like the enemy eventually losing our humanity. So cool.
I love Kevin so much. Even after everything, he’s still walking the hero’s path despite having so much taken from him. I know a lot people would call him a villain, but he’s just a tragic hero to me. In the end with out of desperation and hopelessness he turned into a villain. A villain believing what he is doing is right.
Like Otto, he was willing to go to far lengths to save humanity, even become a villain to them. The only difference is Otto did everything for a personal reason, which was to save Kallen while Kevin does it because it’s what he was asked to do by Dr.MEI
If I had to write everything I feel about Kevin, The Flame-Chasers and the Previous Era there would've been a huge pile of paper lol. The man's carrying the whole 52000 years of burden of his shoulders. I want to see him with the alive Flame-Chasers and a smile on his face. Just a pat on his shoulder, tell him he did everything he could've done.
As much as I’d like to see that, remember Kevin went through hell in the PE and I mean HELL. It took it’s toll on him emotionally and psychologically. Even Fu Hua had a hard time coping after most of the tragedies and losses she went through in the current era.
Kevin and Otto are so the same yet also different. They're both willing to risk everyone just to get their wish. Otto will risk everyone if it's to save one person. Kevin will risk everyone if it's to save humanity.
That’s what makes these two such tragic characters imo. Otto will do and sacrifice whatever it takes in order to save Kallen. Kevin will do whatever he has to to prepare humanity for finality, even if it means committing genocide in a sense
@@ourlastresort4270 I'd say Kevin had it even worse. In Otto's case everything he did was to achieve his own personal goal. But in Kevin's case he himself barely cared about humanity as a whole. The only reason he was so driven was because it was Dr Mei's goal and what all the Flame Chasers strove for, and hence the only remaining thing he could do to honor their deaths.
Hua did say she heard from Su that Kevin's greatest regret was not dying during the Finality. She initially thought this is because Dr.MEI died but she realized that it's because at the moment of becoming the "Victor", Kevin will kill himself with his own hands as the sigil of Deliverance. This kinda implies that as the "Deliverer", Kevin is essentially humanity's scapegoat, the one who bears the sins of PE and had he triumph over HoTE back in PE, he would die as well(basically like Jesus dying so that the original sin would be forgiven). But as SIM Kosma said to Mei in ER, no matter what happens, there's no denying that Kevin was the savior of humanity.
