I'm Mexican-American, this is the first book that I've EVER read where the main character is a Mexican and not stereotypical. It comes all the things I like AND I'm represented. When I saw that it was being released I was elated and excited. Thank you for reviewing.
@@HollyHeartsBooks Not as happy as I am that it finally exists jaja usually books that have POCs as main characters deal with the issues one has to deal with as a POC and it's like, I read to escape all that. So reading this book was like a damn breath of fresh air. Thanks again for reviewing
@@HollyHeartsBooks Although funny enough, this book is essentially an allegory on the horrors of white supremacy, colonialism, and misogyny. So it actually DOES deal with issues that POC face. But I get what you mean.
Thanks for this video! I got Mexican Gothic in my book of the month box and can’t wait to read it soon!!! I am curious to see what you think of The Ancestor by Danielle Trussoni? It’s another Historical Gothic Horror novel! It creeped me out in the best way. It’s best to go into it blind. If you read it, please do a review of it. There’s not enough people talking about that one. Thanks!
I read it based on all the hype you gave it. I gave it about 3.5 stars. I think its worth reading for sure. My complaints are pretty simple, I just wanted a bit more from the backstory and the ending. But I loved that it put a lot of possible ideas in my head about what was going on and what was going to happen. I think all the characters are basically unlikable from the start but for very different reasons which I find to be a good thing for this kind of horror story.
I'm currently in the middle of Mexican Gothic and thoroughly enjoying it! Such great creepy vibes, and so many good classic gothic tropes. I must tell you that Noemi is pronounced No-eh-MEE, not No-may. Just say all three syllables.
@@HollyHeartsBooks No worries. It's a tricky name for non-Spanish speakers to pronounce, and I'm Mexican so just thought I'd point it out. I hope I didn't come across overly critical! I love your channel and always get good fantasy recs from you.
It just sounds so awesome. And you are so convincing and happy while you talk about it... I guess I will fail my "no new books until you beat your tbr pile" mission 🤷

I thought it was hilarious the title is Mexican Gothic. However, it’s about mostly about English family in a Victorian home.

I'm glad you got to read Mexican representation, but also disappointed this was your first book. Check out Rudolfo Anaya and Laura Esquivel.
Well I was already sold, but you make me even excited to read it. I should have a copy by Friday so I'll be reading very soon!
