I broke the tip of my stanley knife making it and went through many ice-cream sticks. Still an interesting device for the children to play with. Much respect to Arvind Gupta for his ideas.

Ok let me simplify, I made one for myself referencing this video. Use a compass to make holes in the sticks, make sure they all coincide, otherwise the lift will lean like the tower of pisa. Get a simple copper wire from the electrical store or from your storage room, heat it on a stove, melt the plastic basically and remove it with a wet cloth, you'll get the bare copper wires. Cut them with scissors and take three at a time and just mix them all together using your thumb and finger to get one strong yet flexible copper wire. Simply use a paper puncher to punch holes at the bottom of the stick. If you cant find those thin tubes, use pen refills(I used flair easy click, costs 3 rs.) Just make sure that the refill is quite stiff and doesn't bend easily Take some m-seal or any alternative and fill the holes with it. Then insert the refill and just get both the ends of the refill submerged in the mseal(apply more if you have to). This way, you've stuck the tubes too. Let it solidify(make sure you use powder to avoid messing the seal everywhere including your hands) It would be better to just buy coloured sticks(adds aesthetics). This is what I've made so far, will update later. By the way, buy syringes and flex tube from your local chemist shop.

So you basically just take the syringes and fill them with coloured water(just take water and pour some pen ink in it). Then you basically have to take a cardboard base. Fix the jack lift on it(I simply taped one refill with the cardboard base(like 5-6 layers of tape). Do the same with syringe such that the piston of it touches the straw which isn't taped. Voila, you have tye piston pushing the untaped refill and the lift will go up. Also, instead of sticking cardboard at the top, just stick ice cream sticks with fevicol(will look much cooler). Abd the trickiest one is making hotizontal cuts on the ice cream sticks, I initially used a compass to make horizontal holes to connect them later and also used a heated knife to make the cut directly, in either cases, the stick simply broke because of too much force. I later realised that good old cutter will do the trick. Just make a cut using a scale to margin it, and then repeat till it cuts through the entire stick. Enjoy. (You can be further creative and take a load and write your name or project name whatever).
This is nice as a toy....but the title hydraulic may not be suitable as this seems more of a mechanical jack...the diameter of both the syringe appears almost equal....for a hydraulic jack...the driver cylinder diameter is less and the driven cylinder dia is more....isn’t it?
