Nebula with torpedo pod is probably the most powerfull pre-Dominion war ship SF has, even compared to Galaxy. The Akira is a torpedo boat. It's supposed to be as cheap as possible with maximum firepower while the Nebula is just a tiny bit smaller version of the flagship.
Ships like the Akira must be churned out in a fraction of the time (and at a fraction of the cost) of a Nebula, but whilst the Akira has limited usage outside of warfare (as it suited the more militaristic doctrine of the time), the Nebula can be reconfigured for either and still have useful scientific and defensive capabilities. Still, I feel that if you gave the Akira quantums, or fielded it against the sensor pod variant of the Nebula, it should win or at least battle to a stalemate.
If you look carefully on the nebula class sometimes you can see the phaser charging up when he's fighting it there's a little ring section and you can see the phaser charging up from there
I remember when BC first came out. The Akira was my favorite. It was easy to take down Sovereigns using it's maneuverability to defeat the forward torpedo launchers.
Wait, wut? The Akira doesn't have aft torpedoes? Since when? It's supposed to have fifteen launchers, as far as I could count. I could've sworn either six or seven of them were aft.
The nebula has a special place in my heart because it was the first non-galaxy class ship I saw in TNG in that cardassians episode. When I was a kid it blew my mind - WHATS THE TRIANGLE ON TOP OF THAT SQUAT SAUCER BOI
Your right there stronger 1530 strength index rating 8 Uprated type XF Phaser arrays 50000 Terawatts and 17 direct pulse fire Photon and Quantum torpedo launchers. NEBULA CLASS WITH ADVANCED WEAPONS POD 1335 STRENGTH INDEX RATING.
Both were used on the front lines of the Dominion War, showcasing the effectiveness of both. With aft torpedo launchers, Akira can defeat the larger Nebula. Quantum torpedoes would give either a decisive advantage over the other. The balance between the two appears excellent in the mod
I think you could've won with the Akira if you maneuvered it properly to avoid the Nebula's torpedoes and kept your bow aimed at its rear to fire off torpedo salvoes.
Wow. Still though, I imagine Jean Luc would just give the Jean Luc stare to the Nebula Captain and he’d have no choice but to surrender. Picard would add the Nebula to his little fleet and away he goes!

The Nebula and Akira classes are definitely two of my favorite Starfleet ship designs. To be sure.

It's odd the akira seemed weaker than the nebula because the akira was developed to fight the Borg.

If they're going for the glass cannon effect with the akira, it should be firing quantums. I think that would be a better balance.
The Akira should have mopped the floor with the Nebula class tbh.

another unbalanced ship.akira should be stronger.maybe as nebulla class.maybe little more.
The stock Akira hat quantum torpedoes and beats a Galaxy easily. This one seems to be much weaker.
