Branch is no doubt a gem. All camp long, every article, every day, always had something really good to say about Branch. I've been waiting to see him break games like this to put that "gem" label on him. He is him no doubt.
He seems to be playing three positions at the same time. A third safety, nickel corner and in the box linebacker. And he does it all at the same time!!! We have never had a guy like this. Closest maybe is Bennie Blades. But Branch is super special. Aaron Glenn must have been in heaven watching the films. I think somebody forgot to tell him that he is a rookie. He sure doesn't play like one.
BB looks like a star. He’s like the wind. He’s fricking everywhere. Skies the limit with this kid. Absolute shot at DROY. Might even have shot at pro bowl.
I don't recall seeing such an amazing performance from a rookie defensive player. I don't get excited much, but this dude's awareness, experience and a great ability to breakdown and switch direction is such a huge benefit and getting these amazing tackles.
Absolutely...he's addictive to watch...he has shades of a palamalou or Earl Thomas. He's a dog....tough, gritty, intelligent. He lets his pads do the talking....sky's the limit for Brian branch...
I was focusing on him during the game. And i was laughing how ridiculously good he looks. What a steal for the lions. And btw that lions défense was very impressive .
Branch was everywhere. It's a tough pill to swallow to admit the Seahawks just have our number, but everything we needed to see from this defense came to fruition. Branch was a ball hawking monster, the pass rush showed up, and our star edge rusher took over when it mattered most and ended the game. On to Lambeau!
@@p_diddy9332I mean sure the Lions could have won, but they didn't. At the end of the day you can't turn the ball over, and the Seahawks beat the Lions, yet again. They moved the ball up and down the field all day, including right down our throats in overtime.
Seahawks don't have our number, they won the turnover battle and Pete Carroll out coached MCDC. I don't think they are a better team at all. The Lions lost the turnover battle and left points on the field. Campbell should have kicked a couple field goals and forced Seattle to keep up, watching the game it was obvious the Lions offense was better than Seattle's Defense. I only remember the Lions punting 1 time yet turning the ball over in the red zone. If the winds of luck blew the Lions way or at least in a neutral direction they would have molly whomped Seattle.
Branch looks like he has elite play recognition. He's reacting to the play sometimes faster than the some on the offense that are there to block him. And for the quarterbacks to beat him. For him it's almost like having a few tenths of a second faster 40 time. And his tackling, both in hit power and wrap up, are elite as well for a defensive back. It's like having a linebacker and DB in one player. He's looking like he's on an All-Pro career trajectory at this time.
Branch is absolutely incredible as a rookie and even compared amongst the top nickel players he hast to already be performing at like a top 5 level! Great video. 👍🏻💙
Branch was the steal of the draft! I knew we had a dog when he stayed for day 2 of the draft, when everyone else that hadn’t been drafted left, he stayed. This man has drive, character, and a dog inside him. He’s gonna be special, bump that, he is special!
Branch is the real deal. No question the steal of the draft. His instincts are elite. He’s as a good a tackler as you’ll see, can play the run as good as the pass. He’s smart, humble and has a chip on his shoulder because he fell to the second round. He’s got future all pro written all over him. Love the kid. Go lions! One pride!
The Lions had a draft of the ages. I wish Seattle wasn't game 2. That was our trap game and DC got outcoached. We bounced back and I'm looking forward to Thursday nite in wisconsin!
Grabbing the jersey at the nameplate or higher is considered a horse collar. So fair call as he grabbed exactly the nameplate of the jersey to bring down Bijan.
i think a lot us were a bit worried after rd1 of the draft, but after we traded up for Branch… I was ECSTATIC. couldnt believe it. probably the only time ive screamed for us to pick a player and they did.
For context on the penalty, they mentioned on the broadcast that a horse collar can be if you grab the jersey at or above the name plate, so that sadly was a good call to make, and also a good play made by branch
He’s going to be a DROTY candidate. STUD. He played 100 percent of the snaps on Sunday. Previous to CJ getting hurt CJ was playing 100 percent of the snaps. I believe going forward he’s going to be a part of our base defense. He’s too good not to play every snap. Too good.
Going to be a lot of #32 jerseys in Detroit. This “rookie” looks like an all pro. 11 solo tackles…a few pass breakups as well? 2 field goals, 44 rushing yards allowed. Damn !
In the behind the draft episode of the Lions’ Inside The Den series, Campbell turned to Holmes after they got him and said something to the effect of he’s one of the top defensive players in the entire draft,’ and he’s looking every bit of that so far. He’s everywhere and is making play, after play. They were between LaPorta and Branch heading into day two, but it looked like they went with LaPorta because they had CJGJ, and Holmes, seeing Branch was still available a few picks after the Lions chose LaPorta he got on the phones and tried moving up.
The horse collar penalty isn't about how high you grab, it's about the motion of throwing the player backwards. Before it was a penalty, people would have career-ending injuries to their legs by getting pulled backwards awkwardly like that and getting rolled up on by the tackler simultaneously.
I was at the game, and his name kept coming up. Even in real time you could see the guy was just playing his ass off. He may be the best draft pick the Lions had the last two years when it's all said and done.
Love how he textbook tackles . Just like he was thought when he was a kid. None of this diving at there feet or whatnot. Not going to see him wiff very often. Just like a D. Levy or S. Tulluck. For sure tacklers. He's not fast either but rather uses his instincts . Just like Rodrego
Not only is BB a tremendous athlete but also a class act all the way around. I think he's the steal of the draft. He went so late in the second round, maybe playing with a little extra chip on his shoulder.
If you can find the run play where he absolutely DECLEATS Bijon, maybe put it up as a short? It does draw a questionable penalty but that’s the hit after the game where he said it was important to show how hard I was going to hit him!
Branch simply lit it up. So solid. He was bummed after giving up the game winning pass to Lockett against the Hawks last week. Rookies bouncing back with a fury is a testament to who he is and who he will become in the NFL.
I truly wish I could find the comment on YT of guy telling me there's a reason he dropped to 2nd round he's unathletic and tested poorly. I told that didn't matter because Branch is Smart and a FOOTBALL PLAYER!
He had a "slow" 40 yd time. Shows you that sometimes the combine numbers don't tell ya what you really want to know. He is obviously fast in pads. He should have been a top 10 pick.
I don't say this lightly at all, but Brian Branch kinda gives me the same vibe as when I was watching a rookie Nicklas Lidstrom for the Red Wings. It just looks like he was always a pro, and he's finally playing at the level he is supposed to if that makes sense. Thank you so much Gutey for trading out!
I’ve learned what talent looks like from 30 years of watching Detroit not have any, and watching the rest of the NFL beat the Lions with it. This is the first Lions D I’ve seen that actually makes me look forward to Sundays. Branch, Hutch, Campbell, McNeill, Sutton, CJGJ… this team is talented and deep… I think this trip to Lambeau Thursday will show me a lot about what this team is/can potentially be
F***ing fantastic breakdown of Branch’s play in week 3 🔥 what an absolute steal of a draft selection for the Detroit Lions, and he will undoubtedly win DROY if he continues to play at this level. this might be Brad Holmes best draft yet, and he's done pretty well. He has a knack for finding first and second round talent in the third and fourth rounds. Brian Branch falling to the lions should make every other GM cringe.
He was all over the place fantastic playing the run. kinda reminds me of st brown but on defense both do everything right but just don’t have the 4.4 speed so they were slept on.
Lion’s fan here… You are right, he was EVERYWHERE on the field. Huge impact on the team and the game. I worry a little that an aggressive rookie can be fooled by double moves or attacked by scheme but if he can make plays like this all the time, I guess there's not much reason to worry. Live by the sword, die by the sword. He seems to have a really good first step and quickness, as well as always having his feet in a way that lets him redirect at any time; he doesn't lose his feet much. You take all that and add in the willingness to be physical and like you say it's a DB that can probably play in any era.
Most of us Lions fans are really excited about Branch. Especially after our abysmal DB play last year.
Last year and the decades prior
Branch has great instincts, game speed and toughness, he's going to be a great one
Branch is no doubt a gem. All camp long, every article, every day, always had something really good to say about Branch. I've been waiting to see him break games like this to put that "gem" label on him. He is him no doubt.
