Unusual Transpennine Express services to be diverting via Wakefield, nice footage of most of them and nostalgia of the class 91's. with their InterCity Swallow livery. I hope you don't mind me asking, how come you don't start your railway journeys like you used to from Rugeley Town?
Thanks Ricky. The honestly reason why I not starting from Rugeley Town any more because I looked at the videos from a different perspective, for example this video is about TPE on diverts and is it necessary to film the journey from Rugeley Town to Leeds.... It's honestly not. It's considered as 'RUclips fluff' So the main reason why I don't start is because I'm seeing RUclips from a different perspective than before. IF I'm doing a West Midlands area I may start it at Rugeley Town still
Yeah, another excellent vid, I love doing loops too . The last one I did, in September, was Preston to Preston via Blackpool, South and North. ( via the Tower Ballroom, the week after Strictly was there, I’m a Strictly Come Dancing fan as well as 🚂 trains )
Great vlog in my neck of the woods. Castleford station building is indeed new as is the footbridge. The disused platform 2 has been reinstated but I don’t think it’s been reopened yet. From all accounts Normanton used to have a lovely station building.
As a Wakefield lad, Kirkgate station is a shadow of its former self. The wrought iron roof has gone, and the passing loops. and it seems the huge building that was the entrance and parcels office. I caught a train there to Liverpool to get my passport before emigrating to Australia. Was back in 2019 for a while and the rail system is a mess, exspensive and seems to not run on time. Wakefield to Manchster Piccadilly and then to Cheltenham took ages. And cost like 40 quid. What happened to the cheap day returns to London you could get. As long as you were prepared to get the mail train from Westgate at midnight. Keep up the good work always find it interesting.
Can agree that it not cheap, only got to Leeds due to a Northern Rail Sale which cost £1.50 one way. Have seen photos of Wakefield Kirkgate in it heyday but do agree with a shadow of its former self, Thanks David.
Hard to believe nowadays how important Normanton station once was. It had the longest platforms in the WORLD at one time and before the restaurant cars it had a dining room and trains from London to Scotland would stop here for passengers to dine. I remember after the Thornhill to Royston loop closing I used to travel from Mirfield to Rotherham Masborough by changing at Normanton.
Castlford has come a long way since I visited there. Mind you, that was over 10 years ago. It was then just a one platform station, with the second platform out of use. Seems that is about to change!
Great video Simon do like it when trains are diverted away from there usual route it makes the trip more interesting and a great to finish the trip off by riding behind a class 91. If your down in London especially around Southeastern, Southern and Thameslink they intend to divert quite a lot when there original route is closed
I don't blame you for not liking Normanton station Simon - to me it has always looked badly neglected & a bit of an eyesore. A far cry from it's earlier days when it was quite an important station. Thank you for sharing your day. 🙂
the exit from plat 1 at woodlesford useed to be the way to whitbreads brewery and was used by staff who worked there as im local to that area/2 normanton used to have a big steam depot and loads of yards mainy coal and steel/3 kirkgate was a big station had bays of plat 1 for parcel trains and a few yards as well and the loco shed 56 A with about 200 locos on the line towards doncaster before crofton/4 did you use a west yorkshire day ranger for your trip if not check it out on web, finish enjoy your trip home simOn
I didn't use a West Yorkshire Day Ranger. I just got a return to Wakefield. was only £5 something with a Railcard. The plan was to head to Barnsley and finish the video at Barnsley but the train to Leeds was cancelled at Manchester Victoria due to overrunning engineering work, took one 20 minutes later and ended with 10 minutes to sort a start of the video out which I decided forgot the train I meant to catch and take one a hour later. Thanks Vernon
I still think that TransPennine Express do better rail services than Northern. Still the North of England does need better rail services as both TransPennine Express and Northern do provide services for the North of England.
Between Manchester and Leeds, Northern is the cheaper option. currently TPE is on the verge of loosing their franchise. They do good Rail services but at the moment they have got a bad reputation and wouldn't be surprise if they do loose the franchise
Great video Simon
Thanks Jacob

Brilliant video Cyber, I always find it interesting to see diverted traffic. The Headless chicken scene at Normanton was brilliant. :D
Thanks Reuben
Thanks Simon excellent video 👍
Thanks James
Well done!! Most interesting.
Thanks PS. Montreal
Great vlog Simon of the TPE diverts in the Wakefield area. The class 91s are getting rarer as the days go by. I enjoyed watching as always.
Thanks Sam
Very good Simon, good to see you at Woodlesford my local, hope you enjoyed yourself around Leeds and Wakefield.

Thanks TD, there a few more videos from Yorkshire. that have been filmed.
Great video 👍 🙂

Noticed that it is still under construction with the time I had there. Thanks Rachel
It should be opening with the December timetable change, sit services from
Tpe

diverts is from ravensthorpe via healey mills-waky kirkgate-nomnton-woodlesford-leeds

Makes me wonder if there will be a regular service beyond Castleford in the future. Thanks David

Thanks Jack. Last time I did some diverted trains around London was on the Catford Loop Line.

Thanks Richard, it was a station that I've been putting off for years but decided to give it a go.
Yeah, Kirkgate used to be a right dump. I haven't been back since the renovation, but I hope to pay a visit at some point.

Hi what date was this filmed as I passed through on a tpe 802 from York to Manchester
Was filmed on the 7th February 2023

What editing software do you use Simon
Great vid
Thanks Dawn
TPE need to be stripped of the franchise there short notice timetable changes are to blame
I wouldn't be surprise if it does happen as the results of their performance isn't good at the moment. Same with Avanti West Coast as well.
