The RTX 5080 and 5090 ARE really REALLY GOOD CARDS, even without DLSS and Frame-Gen. HOWEVER, you can get a 7900 XTX for $850, the cheapest RTX 5080 goes for fucking $1,250. And you're still ONLY getting 16 GB of VRAM for $1,250.
ehh... it is more of they have no reason to produce gaming GPUs anymore. In 2019, their revenue was split 50/50 between data centers and gaming, now it is about 95/5, if that. The data center cards are sold at more of a mark up than gaming cards are. So why would they use supply power to make gaming cards to have them in stock vs. data center cards which are being bought by tech companies in the HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS at a time.

I’m being reminded of when I waited in line for a launch XBOX 360. 14 hours in advance I was first in line. They only had two consoles with wireless controllers and an hdd and only 10 consoles total. Built my first pc in October and I’m glad I did. The prices were fantastic and I don’t have to deal with this bs.

I'd say this generation or maybe the 60s generation will be the last generation of "gaming" cards anyone can buy new. If people are gonna willingly pay $1.5k+, why not just start leasing them and refusing to let any gamers own one. They have money to lose by selling them to gamers atm. Unless you have an unlimited supply, retail sales make 0 sense for Nividia. If the AI craze dont die, im afraid they aint even gonna be selling gamers cards much longer. Everyone will either lease a card or stream through Nividias cloud services. They have 0 competition, a limited supply, and insane demand. It has little to do with scalping or shortages and mostly to do with hanging out with similarly excited people for the same thing. This isn't our first camp out, but it is the first time they only had 5 GPUs. IDK how we caused Nvidia to only send 200 5090s to Micro Center total.

I knew somebody would show up early in the morning & offer to buy my spot, and sure enough, someone offered $600 for it! Same thing happened the year prior waiting for an Xbox 360, but I actually wanted to keep that, so someone offered my girlfriend $400 for her "spot," even though she was just waiting to kill time with me lol
