Yep! I work for an English plc and the emails from management, and company literature, are littered with errors from native speakers. My eight year old son could proof-read the directors' communications.
I had a D&D demo pair at my place for about a week. Personally I very much like the 21st century D&D industrial design (much more than the Kii3 looks). Listening to them I especially loved the low frequency response when listening at low volumes. I am used to listening to (passive) JBLs with 15'' Alnico bass drivers that have amazing low freq. response at low volumes. The D&Ds have more precision at low freq. than my passive old-timers, but lack the charm. They do many things right, especially when you consider the beautiful small footprint. And then after the demo week was over, I had the chance to replace the D&Ds with a pair of ATC SCM 50 SLC active demo pair. It took only seconds to make me go ... WOW... only then I realised that the D&D's midrange just did not manage to win my heart. The ATCs are not a pleaser when it comes to low freq. response, but the general performance, especially the critical midrange was just another league to me.
Yes, the D7D are not so forward in the high midrange, but I love that, the music today is way to harsh...but yeas I was able to mimic the Highmids detail of the Genelec 8351 with the wonderfil D&D EQ ...I think overall the D7D is better than the Genelec 8351 and ATC, as the D7D is more solid in many areas and the directional dispersion is just amazing, great clarity in the lowend as well and great enogh headroom
I quite recently got a pair of ATCs and am super happy with the results I am getting but have been worrying lately that I should have got Kiis or the D&Ds because of the clever DSP! Your comment is heartening to read! Cheers :-)
A Kii shootout is definitely required now. I have reservations but we'll let the review decide. As someone else pointed out in a comment below not any room will handle this despite the clever engineering.
@Matthias Stuer If you read Darko’s article linked above he does compare the Kii head to head with pretty accurate assessments as demonstrated by other reviewers in the field. Kii = highly accurate better for detailed pro monitoring work and 8c deeper bass, easier on the ears, perfect for hi fi in the home
He's telling things that are actually already known for decades. It's not that they suddenly found the holy grail but that other competitors just don't do their homework right. Some even started to believe in their own fairy tales so to speak.
This isn't the first or last speaker to implement a waveguide, the mackie824 is a notable speaker using a waveguide on the tweeter, much cheaper as well. Waveguides are less effective than and basically a derivative of a real horn. So this is a nice speaker I'm sure...but this speaker isn't using alien technology, rather, old and proven design, available at a much lower price point, in particular is you build it, yourself.
You would need some pretty solid and heavy speaker stands for those...the rear subwoofers would create some pretty significant inertia just from the weight of the cone moving mass.
up to the x-over freq of the tweeter , this is cardioid , after that certainly not . So the argument of constant directivity (indirect sound being tonally the same as direct) only is partially true . Same for Ki3 . True constant directivity is only possible with well designed perfect dipoles
After thoroughly reading your review, has the Roon software issue been addressed? For this to be the “end game” option, Roon connectivity must be PERFECT
Now there's a shootout that a certain Mr Darko could do. Kii 3 + 8c driven with DACS by PS Audio and Chord Electronics. Wouldn't want to bet on his sanity being left intact though. Trying to get a conclusive Victor would certainly put me in the funny farm. By the way Mr Darko you gained my vote on SG's recent daily show, along with Reichert., Fremer and SG. Keep on keeping on.
This is purely a, non-biased, observation from the spec sheet: Every driver is metal (aluminium, or aluminium/magnesium alloy) and all the amps are Class D. Holger Adler, Voxativ at 09:36: ruclips.net/video/Qq9r_TL49Kk/видео.html
Not so sure about some of the ideas posited here. For example: There's a piece of complex maths called a Sound Absorption Coefficient. This tells you how much a given material absorbs sound at a given frequency. Thus it depends what your rear wall is made out of as to whether it will reflect or absorb certain frequencies. Bass frequency energy below a certain point will mostly go straight through most modern house walls, because of their wavelength, rather than be reflected as stated here.
@Christopher Hayden It should Chris, and you can also try solid insulation panels 3 inches or more thick. What Paul says is true, to a point. Low frequencies are both absorbed and reflected, depending, of course, on just how low those sound waves are.
Do they stream directly from the network collection (bubble upnp, own app), or is network connection just to connect both speakers, upgrades,... Not really clear.
Excellent, at some point I want a pair of active speakers for the living room. Not interested in speakers that need extra 'hubs' or 'connect devices' to add streamers etc. (sorry Elac, Dali & co) Although I love my 'traditional hifi', the future is definately active, the less boxes and cables the better :) How would they compete against the Hegel H360 / H590 + good pair of speakers?
Unlike most speakers, an acoustic guitar sounds good in just about any room. Why? Because the reflections are spectrally correct and therefore generally beneficial to timbre, so it really doesn't matter whether the room contributes a little or a lot of reflections. Same thing with the Dutch & Dutch speakers. It is of course possible for the room to screw up the spectral balance of the reflections (for instance by overly absorbing the highs), but at least with the 8c the off-axis energy (which is where most of the reflections originate) STARTS OUT correct.
I'm always amazed at how well the Dutch ( and Scandinavians too) speak English... often better than many native English speakers!
Weeel now! Ain't that just the troof.

Maybe because a dane invented the loudspeaker

I believe him because of the waveguide. It may be a engineering truth we all need to accept for truthful sound production.

These are really good looking loudspeakers
*Pass the dutchie*
Thanks for the heart :)
On de left hand side
They are beautiful
Very interesting concept, i‘d like to listen to those speakers 🔊

Why can't a cheaper speaker look this nice on the outside?

Well both the kii 3 and the d&d 8c are active speakers. Using external DAC's and amplifiers makes no sense and only introduces distortion
By the way folks Dutch and Dutch are looking for an international sales representative.
Dream job perhaps? Employee Discount!
If this gentleman is correct -- and it sounds like he is -- this could change the game. Anybody know if they're available in the US?
Dutch guy with an Australian accent. These are rare considering the distance
Where in the UK will I be able to hear a demo of these? I don't mean on RUclips, of course.

I purchased a pair of 8c, check out eric clapton change the world... mind blowing!

My first look at these. Thanks for the video. Beauties..... WoW...
More and more headphone and speaker designers these days are using more common sense that left brain thinking for better overall sound.

Yes, direct from the network. I'm pretty sure they are now Roon Ready and my review will uncover the rest.

The side … vent, looks more like a periodic vent
Speakers are sexy
what stands you have for this speakers ?
Don’t doubt they sound great but Christ they’re complicated
Holy 🐄
wOW
He lost me at "... Designed to sound good in any room.." 🙄
Due to the nature of being directional speakers

no speaker sounds good in anechoic chamber so NONE is designed for that.
