Oh, it does! I was thinking that it sounds alot like a mix of Impulse's lore and Etho's parcours concept, but I haven't seen alot of their videos, so I could be wrong. Looove that so many Hermits are building so close together this season, and so many with a storytelling/lore angle to it, trying to make the different builds and stories compatible sounds like a very high potential for whimsy and so much fun
@seeschwalbeI watch all of Etho's, and I caught a lot of Impulse in season 10 (which his lore is continuing into this season), and they do both have a futuristic aesthetic that Mumbo's fits in with nicely 👍😊
His lore actually fits in super well with one of the recent star wars tv shows, Skeleton Crew. (spoilers!), in the show the main characters live an idyllic life on a planet controlled by robots, with an unseen supervisor in a tower lording over everyone on the planet. The planet acts as a hidden government mint that produces endless amounts of currency for a Republic that doesnt even exist anymore

But a city on a hill with a picturesque field is every man's dream. What's actually crazy is that it's always a hill with a cherry blossom forest that gets chosen only for them to get eradicated and replaced by a city. (Which now that I think about it, is really fitting to the lore. Nature's beauty being removed and replaced by artificial beauty)

Xisuma's build in a strange way fits into your story. It's like another human expelled from the city making a life from what is left. He has chosen to harness those robots that fall from the city to run his farm but traps them so they can't rise up and take over again. Mumbo is planning an uprising.

You don't need streets to be small to feel cramped, just make it clear that most of the road wasn't designed to be walkable, it was designed for company vans and busses, maybe some roads only have 1 block of sidewalk with grass that you're clearly not souppoused to walk on and a few fence posts that look like they're supposed to discourage cars from driving into people but are clearly insufficient to actually do so.
It's so easy to make massive streets that feel completely unwelcoming. Maybe even add in ravagers in minecarts like that one mini game so it's actually difficult to cross the roads.
Adding a lot of stuff to the sides of the sidewalks helps too (trash). I live near Chicago and when I visited New York city I noticed how at night they have to put all their trash on the sidewalks to be picked up (because it's an older city not originally built for big garbage trucks compared to downtown Chicago) and having all that stuff narrows the sidewalks more. If he wanted to get really fancy he could even add an L/elevated train going around the city. I know it gets more cramped in Chicago around the L because all the beams to hold up the track and you're cramped from above you.
I recently watched the video _"EXACTLY How To Make Any Place Beautiful"_ by _The Aesthetic City._ There is a very interesting display of how to integrate building into the road. If you build stores and personal windows on eye level then that is welcoming. If you have a massive wall or a sterile repetitive feature like office windows on eye level then that makes it cold. About the worst thing is to have the house floors offset by half a level and have a big fat concrete block of floor right at eye level. Mumbo could draw the "wrong" lessons from the video and make a very cold city that way.

To be fair, making the streets actually smaller might be useful for fitting them & the skyscrapers in. I wouldn't make them smaller to make them feel more cramped though, you're absolutely right.
I think he's going for a super dense city style, like in some older areas that weren't built for cars and had lower foot traffic and then sort of exploded in population. Your idea is good, but i don't think it makes sense for this specific build.

It wouldn't really be an accurate parody in that case. And if you want to draw that parallel, it's important to note the differences with reality.
In the story, corporations are issuing fake transactions to each other to boost profits, but this can't work in reality, because shuffling a fixed pie doesn't increase the pie, and fake profits inevitably lead to failure anyways. The operation would be shut down way before people decide to leave the city for some reason. It's not impossible to make money by just passing money around, mind you, but this is not the case here.
Real companies are kind of circling resources while moving assets. This does inflate valuation and facilitates lending (which is possibly not fully legal, but I'll leave that to others to determine), but crucially they're doing it to finance real AI training for real profit down the line. Regardless of the ethical question, many people find value in AI tools and pay real money to use them.

I recently revisited the episode of Hermitcraft that got me into the server as a whole (Season Three, episode 5) and wow! Mumbo has grown a LOT in 11 years. Like not just voice-wise (though 30 year old Mumbo sounds a lot different from his 19 year old self) but his building skills are so strong now. It's incredible to have watched him grow over the years. And to think if asked he'd still bust out something self-deprecating lol
the trees being soft wood pines really makes it feel like there was some sort of fire or ecological disaster that the land is slowly recovering from, it really really fits :D

One thing that sets Hermitcraft apart is seeing collabs and watching Hermits inspire each other. I loved the tree segment. Not only did you integrate ideas from the shopping district, and you had two hermits drop by when you were filming and suddenly there was a competition. That's peak Hermitcraft right now.

You should definitely add custom villagers with costum trades.
Make them give quests. The reward of the quest items can be an initial written book that gives you the dialogue and a potential new quest. And the reward
For more inspiration on how to build stuff like secret paths and little nooks into the city, I think that Stray and Little Kitty Big City would be awesome. Because of the sorta macro scale that you have to use in Minecraft, cat paths feel like they'd fit well. Stray especially has that run-down cyberpunk futurist city vibe for lots of junk references.
I would love to see Mumbo play Stray if he doesn't already know the plot. I know he probably won't, but it would be SO fun to watch him fall in love with it the way we have. And I agree that it would be really helpful for inspiration for him.

I love how wholesome this episode was. Obviously I love seeing your build progress but it's nice to see you interact with the other hermits. You guys always end up goofing around and praising each other. 😁

It would be cool if you made like a floating bilboard in that top right area propelled with like fans and covered with grime from not being cleaned/maintained as there are no humans, and like it could show when the city was a bussling and full of ppl to like show the distance of what it has become today 14:59

Just wanted to add that while Kowloon (Walled) City was technically always part of China, it was because the enclave wasn’t ruled as part of Hong Kong when the British came; it’s still physically within Hong Kong.
Its present-day state, Kowloon City, is a district in Hong Kong 🇭🇰 While we’re still part of China, we have a distinct identity!

And the Walled City was demolished before the handover in 1997, so it had never been part of the current China physically.

Yeah I just started watching Grian's s6 and for a moment I thought I was watching the wrong season lol
I love that the first 10 episodes for most of the hermits are like “cute and fun ideas and farms that you at home could build!” And then episode 11 hits and it’s like “oh, okay, so these are the professionals, got it”. I can’t wait to see all the mega builds come to life.
You could definitely build some mechanical trees in the robot city. Since they like to be efficient and have no use for normal trees. With like brick walls and copper grates you could make some mechanical trees.
