    Once i had to go to a veg nonveg restaurant with my friends..and as i was vegetarian i ordered veg food, which had pooris, but i couldn't eat the pooris as it was fried in oil in which they had fried fish and it was smelling like fish...so then onwards i try going to pure veg hotels only just to avoid this unpleasant experience again

    I personally practice Vegetarianism, I come from a Kayastha Bengali family, with my mother being Malayali and father Bengali. Everyone in my family used to eat meat mostly fish and chicken and mutton too, why I left meat because I used to don't like the texture of meat, besides I've been to butcher house and it killed my appetite, and texture was usually chewy and didn't like the feeling after eating meat it smells gross to me personally, haven't ate morsel of meat since 2010.

    I'm from Nepal. We're mostly Hindus, in fact just two decades back, we were a Hindu Rashtra, until our Commies with the help of Sonia madam establishment and European Union introduced Secularism here. But, we love meat. I'm a Brahmin and I eat meat. Nepalese eat goat, chicken, buff, pig, wild boar, fish, and many other animals. Mind you, we don't eat beef, cow is our national animal and eating cow meat is strictly punishable by our laws. In fact, the Commies tried to modify this during the framing of new constitution, but they couldn't. We do have Vaishnav sect of people who are strictly vegetarian but Nepalese in general love eating meat but that don't make us any less Hindu.

    There's another factor to be taken into consideration.
    Which is not "compassion" but just simple "disgust" towards foods that a vegetarian has perceived/developed since his formation years.
    For Example:
    Feces is considered unpalatable by most.
    Lets assume a culture or person partakes in it.
    There's a good chance most non-vegetarian people would not share a vessel with such a person.
    Clearly, discrimination not being the reason, but plainly because of personal disgust towards feces.
    The point being, no one can decide what other person's dietary disgust can root from.

    • @bhushan1987
      @bhushan1987 Год назад

      I am in no way opposed to the idea of people carrying their own utensils because they don’t want to share one with other people, that is a personal choice. But if you are ready to share it with certain sects of people and not with another, that can very well be interpreted as a bias, you can call it it casteism, discrimination or just disgust. It doesn’t change the fact that it’s still an implicit bias toward not liking someone based on what they are, wear, or eat, which is pretty much the definition of discrimination. Hitler didn’t just hate the Jews he was disgusted by them and that is why he ran a cleaning service to get rid of them. Again I am not telling what vegetarians should or shouldn’t do, but the idea of being disgusted by someone else’s food is beyond my understanding.
      The example you gave is classic red herring and straw man fallacies. Feces is not food in any known culture, so the natural disgust that the word creates is being used to push an agenda which has nothing to do with the word itself. So the logic is “I am disgusted by something - feces is also disgusting so will you eat feces”.
      Now let’s consider a culture where people eat something most Indians consider disgusting like brains, bugs or reptiles. I can bet you most people who eat non veg and will be disgusted to eat any of that but chances are they will not mind sharing a spoon in a restaurant where they served the above if it was washed properly. Key word here being hygiene. Now take the same example and take the same non vegetarian and serve him in a bowl where some raw meat was placed and maybe was not properly washed, I can bet you 99% of the time the person will not eat in it even though he is being served the same meat cooked.
      As much I respect Sudha mam as a person she is of a generation where being disgusted at someone else’s diet was social norm don’t try spreading it as normal today, we know better.

    • @yugmathakkar4023
      @yugmathakkar4023 Год назад +2

      @@bhushan1987 Yeah but if that bias is stemming from a malicious reason like caste or religion, then it's a bad thing. But if it's stemming from sheer disgust like the OP said (using the most apt analogy I would say, since that is exactly what a vegetarian feels about meat), then there's nothing wrong in that. I don't care if there's no culture yet which treats feces like food, most vegetarians treat meat with as much disgust as a regular human does to feces. It's the perfect analogy. We don't want to accidentally consume something that is extremely extremely disgusting to us, even by accident (since there might be bits and pieces of meat or it's juices left on the utensil). A lot of the times even the smell remains on the utensil, even if it's cleaned properly. This is why a lot of us prefer to carry our own utensils, it's just more convenient. I bet you wouldn't want to use a utensil that smells like feces, would you?
      I don't know why you deliberately chose to misrepresent vegetarians in such a malicious way btw when you said that we allegedly don't like non-vegetarians, and then went on to compare non-vegetarians with jews and vegetarians with Hitler lmao, but to clear it for the gullible who might fall for this crap, vegetarians don't hate non-vegetarians, and no we are not disgusted by non-vegetarians as people. We are disgusted by non-vegetarian food habits, the act of meat consumption is disgusting and disturbing beyond imagination. That's not the same as hating or being disgusted by a human being.
      But on a larger point, what you're doing here is literally villainizing the very idea of a human being having some sort of a bias about a certain issue, which is pretty fucking retarded, because that's one of the things that make us human. You cannot be a human and not have any biases about issues you deeply care about. Your whole comment seems to be extremely (and deliberately) manipulative, and malicious. You've made tons of false equivalences here, used ridiculous analogies, dismissed his perfectly apt analogy about how we're disgusted by meat as much as a regular person is disgusted by feces by claiming that it's red herring/straw man fallacy (at least decide which one it is smh) when it's neither (yes meat is not feces, we're know that. We're not fucking idiots. To repeat once again, we're disgusted by meat and anything related to it as much as a regular person is disgusted by feces), and you seem to justify all those bigoted, hateful and misleading ideas in the name of progressiveness. Why should I force my body to not be disgusted by the things that it is naturally disgusted by, just because it's "today"? Why is "today" here "better" than the past? (Let me answer, because you've been taught to think that we're more progressive than what we were in the past. Which is a concept developed during the European renaissance after they came out of their "dark ages". You're imposing western history onto Indian history with your statement here.) How is it "better" to force down your body reflex? I personally believe that being more connected with your body (including your natural reflexes) is much "better" than suppressing your body and forcing yourself to behave in a certain unnatural way?

    • @bhushan1987
      @bhushan1987 Год назад

      @@yugmathakkar4023 to be honest I can't argue with this amazing logic of yours, because I am not arguing to start with. I am merely pointing out the FACT that you and OP choose to equate edible food(meat) to feces and defend it base on classical conditioning and not actual facts. i.e meat is not feces and the reason its disgusting to someone who has never consumed it is mere conditioning (which means you were taught to think of it as disgusting growing up), the human body is not naturally averse or disgusted by meat(unless it's raw or decaying), but it is averse and disgusted by feces, there are literal research to prove this. Even herbivores like deer and cows will consume meat like insects and reptiles when they are low on certain nutrients(I can send you the link to a research if you have issues believing this). So essentially what I was getting at is the disgust you feel is the manufactured one and not the natural at all (nuances apply, lot of people dont like certain smells and this can be inherent to them, I am not questioning that, but I highly doubt that is what is going on here)
      Now lets get to the fallacies, the OP post is both a red herring and a strawman because he tried to "change the topic and divert attention from the original topic" which was "Is vegetarianism same as Brahminism" and its is also a strawman because he tried to create a literal stawman out of feces.
      Now lets get to your allegations. I have made no claims where vegetarians or meat eaters are better or worse. The point I was trying to make was disgust can lead to breaking down of societies. I am amazed that you were able to craft a shakespearean script using that one statement.
      Next time when your are trying to craft an argument do it using logic and not bias, because it ends up showing. The statements you have made are more a projection of what you think rather than what I said.
      Again I am not trying to start a fight here and if my comment was hurtful I apologize but please don't villianize (strawman) me to prove a implicit bias you have. We all want the same thing, to just get along and form a prosperous society. If just smelling someone else's food disgusts you then you will never me able to sit on the same table with them and most probably not live in the same neighborhood which literally leads to ghettoization, which it leads to discrimination. Again I am not stating that vegetarians are discriminating against meat eaters 🙄. I can relate to your disgust, but what if your disgust, disgusts me, will you be able to relate to me, you see how this gets really complicated real fast? This is exactly what is happening in the west with their woke nonsense.
      Also if your spoons smell after washing then it has not been washed properly, so yeah I wouldn't eat there either.
      And yes "today" is "better" than "past" because we have this thing called the "internet" that bought us out of the "dark ages" of believing and reinforcing your own bias. It's not a European conspiracy or slave/brown coolie mentality to be able to see things from a different perspective, its called being "educated". Now please don't ague that I am bigoted because I am western educated, "Nahi hu bhai, SSC board se pass out hu" 🙄

      @@lakshmikrithika2521 Nobody is denying that people are not disgusted by certain things others eat. People are also disgusted by other people’s ethnicity, race and religion, but in today’s society, showing such disgust is considered ill mannered and ‘distasteful’. We as a society try to cull these practices in the bud because it’s essentially discrimination. I don’t understand how u saying some people are disgusted by other people’s ’edible’ food does not fall into the same category. How we as a society, solve discrimination like racism and ethnic cleansing is by educating other and the next generation, similarly if we also do the same thing with other people’s food maybe they might feel less disgusted. Exposure is the solution to this problem not justifying prejudices. This is just my opinion. Also since you don’t know anything about me or where I live I don’t think you should project your opinion of the miso or Indonesian food on me. While all their food is not exactly my palate I do consume East Asian food quite regularly considering the variety available to me in the West coast of United States. I also don’t eat every meat in the food, instead choose to eat what I like, similar to how I don’t eat every spice in the world. Imagine how upsurd this conversation would be if instead of meat this was about spice and we were discussing how one group of people who never ate spice started saying spicy food is disgusting and feces like, because of their non exposure and prejudice. This is the problem I am trying to bring up in this thread not trying to shame people for having opinion on what other people eat. Hope this makes sense.

    I don't understand one thing.. if a vegetarian person feels disgusted by non vegetarian food.. how can it trigger a non vegetarian fellow. Its a harmless activity if a veg person makes arrangement for seperate plates, utensils or restaurants.. what is triggering few non vegetarians..i believe everyone( a vegetarian as well as a non vegetarian)has a Right to live the way they want... Moral policing should not happen from both sides.
    I wanna share one experience though.. i am myself a non vegetarian person, a friend of mine who happens to be vegetarian, once in a wedding reception started giving gyan over why one shouldn't consume non veg. She said "its a sin etc etc"
    I definitely felt weird as no one was asking for her opinion.. we hadn't even started eating yet.. all of a sudden she said that..but still i didn't feel humiliated or insulted or inferior. I just felt simply weird.. All i replied to her was " let the sins be decided and counted by the almighty honey.. you just enjoy the party 😅)and then went on to have the chicken..
    What could i have possibly said 😅... So yeah that was a weird interaction.. and i just couldn't stop giving a reply. Coz practicing vegetarianism is your right. And i absolutely respect that. but so is my right to practice non vegetarianism.
    I definitely don't have any issue with anyone practicing "a seperate utensil or seperate restaurant thing" My mom is a vegetarian so i totally get it.
    But what i definitely have an issue with is the moral policing or "guilt trap" which few vegetarians (not all) try to do. "One should not eat this, not eat that" is not cool...
    I have no issue even with the fact that someone judges me as "pathetic" or "disgusting" just because i am a non vegetarian... Coz I don't mind what opinions random people form of me, its just that"moral policing " which cannot stop me from giving a fitting reply.. 😊

They could also choose to believe the bits of pieces of each ideology as per their own preference, depending on what they think is good, relevant and feasible for them in that particular ideology. So saying that all vegetarians were only Buddhist that later got converted into Hindus is just plain wrong. In Karnataka there are 4 large communities who are vegetarians. 1. Brahmins ( kannada, tamil, telugu, tulu brahmins) 2. Lingyats (including telugu and Marathi speaking lingayats). 3. Vaishyas (telugu vaishyas). 4. Jains
    There is one small community i know (they are vaishnavas but not brahmins) which has this unique system. Only their women can eat non veg but men are forbidden to eat non veg!!). Please add your state info. Konkani brahmins (GSB) are an exception. They are traditionally fish eating community

I dont mind others eating sitting besides me but me I just dont like to try non veg tussi khana hai khao no problem dont force me 🙂😂Halaki koi special pooja satyanaran vagireme thoda strict karte hai veg rahna but its not that strictly imposed in day to day life my cousin did tried non veg I mean its personal choice.

    I don't understand why Central Asian dwelling aryan would be vegetarian and the Dravidian living in cities and having arable land would be more non vegetarian. I also don't understand why Brahmin would be Aryan invader, they'd be more closer to Kshatriyas. Maybe the Kshatriyas parshurama killed were these Aryans. And the rest Brahmin have high steppe ancestry is because some of the Kshatriyas would've become Brahmins and created vedic culture. They would've married with locals. Which is why there's some meat eating mentioned in early parts.

And even in the plains we have many non-veg eating Brahmins. In Delhi and Lucknow we can see many Brahmins enjoying the non-veg dishes. In India it’s mostly Brahmins. And we’re talking about India here. Not the world. In India you interact with Indians 99% of the time. And most Indians don’t eat meat because of their religious belief. Because it is impure. Don’t talk about Greeks. We don’t live in Ancient Greece.
    There is no problem if a Brahmin wants to avoid meat. They can do whatever they want. It’s only a problem when they make laws based on their beliefs. Like banning beef. Like not serving meat and alcohol in air India flights.

    Varna does not exist any more. It got degenerated into jait due to diluation of Varna. Today's varna system is Engineering vs. medicine etc.
    Hindu Vegitarianism came from Ayurveda. Ayurveda identitief guna/properties of foods - by the impact it has on human body plus mind. For scholarship kind of professions, Brahmin food style is more conducive- easily digestible, does not cause distractions, helps to focus etc. Apart from this, the region where the community lived for long time - also influences.
    I wish India mainstreams Ayurveda as life style choice. Then most confusions on food, varna, jati will go away.
