I actually read Lost in Time (which for me was a 4 star) because of this vlog series so thank you for putting it on my radar lol. I have the YA Fairyloot subscription and BOTM and I really need to hold myself accountable in reading what I receive 😅
I used to be signed up for both the GSFF and their Premier general fiction subscription, but that one is like 50% mystery/thriller which is not at all my genre so I only ended up enjoying like 3 of the books I got in a year. The GSFF is right up my alley tho!
I really like the way you went about this - I like that this sub has books that weren't on my radar, but probably not enough calling to me to make it worthwhile.
I went and found the trade paperback copy of Collarbound solely bc of your video- it sounded like a fun read & I was shocked that nobody else in the review-sphere seemed to know it existed. I loved the concept of the story so much, when I finished reading it, I went & found the newly released "Hawkling" & purchased it online the very next day- something that was actually a bit hard to do, since it was released in the UK first & I had to get it shipped to the US. Lowkey, as an American, sometimes I get a bit jelly of the great quality of the UK subscription boxes, bc the ones here are kinda trash by comparison.
I've had GSFF since 2020 and while there are definitely books that aren't for me (and I need to remember to use my skips more!) I've also found some favourites I probably wouldn't have picked up otherwise e.g. The Collarbound, The Justice of Kings. Currently I only have 2 subs, GSFF and Inkstone (which is quarterly). One day I might try Broken Binding especially if they launch the promised scifi sub. There are so many sub books I just haven't got around to reading yet... but that's equally true of books I buy outside of subscriptions 😂
Very recently, GSFF have been doubling up their editions with other subscription boxes. I’m having to decide which one I want to skip because I can’t justify two copies of the same book. I’m getting ready to cancel one of mine, but I am trying to decide which one. I have seen online that people have noticed a shift to YA or Romantasy books with Goldsboro. I’ve decided to see what the new year brings and see then
I was a GSFF subscriber for a while, but just like you, I realized it just wasn't worth it for me. As I love fantasy romance I also like political fantasies that are many books long and most of the books I got were ones that did not hold my interest. I was sad to cancel but I had to be honest with myself.
3 years ago IC was my GSFF … I got it to expose myself to YA romantasy with a chance of an occasional adult fantasy or sci-fi. I’ve definitely found a number of books that I’ve loved that I would never have picked up!! And their sequels LOL the ability to ♥️ SKIP ♥️ & the sequels … don’t see me cancelling. I’ve tried over 10 subs and have kept 4 … 2 I skip A LOT!! I don’t miss full boxes or the other subs!!! Love your videos!
I still haven’t read at least 50% of my GSFF picks but when I do I hope to do a comparison between Brett and Harveen’s picks. Based on my excitement, I’m definitely more interested in Brett’s picks. But it would be interesting to see how the star ratings comes out. Ultimately, I was extremely disappointed with the picks for 2023 and I don’t regret cancelling.
I think the GSFF does more sci-fi than most if not all the big uk subscription boxes which would have been the draw for me, but even then that's not a lot of sci-fi
Hmm, I am on the opposite side of fantasy from you - I don't love epic high fantasy in general. I like some of it, but I prefer more stand-alone stories or smaller arcs/trilogies. I also don't love grimdark. I have read enough to know that it's best in small doses for my personal mental health. But I do love epic, sweeping multi-volume SF sagas.
I really like GSFF. I also have illumicrate and the YA + Adult Fairyloot, and GSFF is my favorite of those.

I like your break down of your experience with this.

Are you goign to do a series of the Locked library as well?? I really like watching you made this type of videos.
I adore the Justice of Kings, the characters are so good

If you liked The Embroidered Book I'd be so curious to see you read A Declaration of the Rights of Magicians by HG Parry.

I read Among Theives I think because I saw it in your GSFF video and also gave it 2 stars and have no plan on reading the 2nd one
Honestly I really want to read The Embroidered Book!
Nothing better than this notification 👍🏼

I need to do this for the book subscription I have. I don't think I will do GSFF but I do want to try another one 🤔

i love Silver Under Nightfall. I did buy the UK copy bc the US copy is just horrible lol. I can't wait for the second book, but I am nervous.

There is a sequel for Among Thieves. It's called Thick as Thieves. It's been out for a while.

Not all the DNFs 😬
I have just come to this conclusion with another book subscription box, I gave it 6 months and wow 🫢🫣
