The downfall of many self taught pianists is that they expect to play this piece at full speed in a couple months time. It took me 1 year before I performed this piece in public for the first time. Aim for accuracy in notes and rhythm. What use is an NBA player that misses their shots? Doesn't matter how fast you run, if you're not accurate and score any points. Doesn't matter how fast you play the piece, if you're missing all the notes. Doesn't matter how accurate your shot is if you can only score them at the free throw line. Doesn't matter how many notes you play correctly if you don't play them on time.
Well said! I just started this one this week and already am guessing that with sneaking practices in between every day life it's a one year project for me as well...even then some of those passages are so quick, though I LOVED that the familiar chords and octave scales from my conservatory days will come in SO handy! Great play through @easypianohacks.
looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool I'm never gonna be able to play this.
@EasyPianoHacks wow! I have been practicing this song for a very long time , and this video is definitely gonna help. Could you comment on the Pedaling? do you just step and release on it everywhere it indicates to, or do you step and sustain it?
This will be a challenge to play well. I'd make sure to supplement with a lot of technique. Took me at least 10 years of practice to start learning this, didn't start till I was 20 years in, so please put this into context.
I wouldn't recommend learning this until you've been taking lessons for about 3-4 years and have also practiced piano exercises such as arpeggios, scales etc. Good luck though!
This is a really big confidence boost in my own practice technique as i wasnt entirely sure if i was practicing effectively! Also you've given me some great tips so thank you! This video was great
I started this piece 3 years ago and learned it within just a couple of months (I took classes for 5 years, then quit), but my mistake was trying to get through it as fast as I could, which is why my placement and rythm isn’t perfect. I really suggest anyone reading this to perfect every bit before moving on to the next!! To this day i still make many mistakes because I started off wrong and its very difficult to unlearn things
Started learning this you are a god!! could you please (and i know this is a lot to ask and its gonna take ages) make a step by step tutorial for this (ofc not note by note but you get it) ❤️
I hear you. You've found something - the truth. Piano sheet music comes in different levels of difficulty. Most of the RUclips video tutorials, or sheet music are probably way over your head, and you might even know it. Trying to play a piece above your skill level is like learning to run a 100km marathon, when most people trying to learn piano online can barely do a 5km run. To run a 100km marathon, you need to master a 10km, 25km, 50km, 75km run... before trying a 100km marathon. To play Pirates well, you need to learn quite a few classical fundamentals + scales, chords, and arpeggios.
It might seem scary, but it can be done. I know there's a lot of people on RUclips looking for this freedom. You might be interested in the waitlist for this course I'm building to help turn self taught pianists into public piano performers: courses.easypianohacks.com/classical-piano-without-private-lessons
Wow, great attention to accuracy and detail! Quite a few things I can learn from you! But there's also plenty of thoughts/suggestions I can offer. For example, at the descending interlocking chromatic octaves I notice your movements in and out of the keyboard (as you alternate between black and white keys) are quite big. How about playing the white octaves close to the tips of the black keys, and the black octaves near on the tips of the black keys? That way its only a very small hop between black and white keys. Keeping the movements small, light and close to the keys helps me tremendously with speed in this case. Also I'm concerned that 1+4 on the black keys causes ulnar deviation which might increase the risk of injury. It also seems to contribute to the big jumpy in-and-out movements on the keyboard. I personally do 1+5 on the black keys also. I also practice this part playing only the thumbs-part of the octaves, and then adding the pinkies. Focusing on the thumbs helps me get my movements more even and coordinated. I tend to think of the left hand "leading the way" and the right hand "following in the left hand's footsteps"...I hope that makes sense. That's what works for me anyway...
You play very well my friend. Love your approach and I agree on all points. Thanks for catching that rhythm! Is it just me or does it sound different from the soundtrack when played exactly as written on the sheet music? In any case, I appreciate your attention to detail. I was always taught to use 1+4 for black keys on my chromatic octaves to distinguish a difference between black and white keys for accuracy. To each their own of course - I don't find too much difficulty doing the chromatic octaves the way I do them, but I also agree with your method. Lately, I'm actually finding computer and MIDI keyboard use damaging to my fingers, so that's been on my mind more. I'll give your method a try for the sake of my finger health. Let's hope voice technology gets better soon, so we can get more done without staring at screens and using mechanical keyboards so much.

Hey... just wondering. Are you left handed? I think the notation @measure 57 says for the RH to jump down. But you play it so well with your left hand, I thought that might be why. Also.. did you try the 1-5 fingers for the descending octaves (m:39-42) that another commenter mentioned? Okay, two questions: 1: Why is it that it is easy to play hands separate but not together when I do this? 2: My arms and fingers are hurting a bit (especially when doing the glissandoes at the end) when practicing this as a whole when trying to do the performance speed. Any tips on coping to this?

Can we play it on 61 keys keyboard
May i know how i can get the sheet? Thanks !
Okay, two questions:
1: Why is it that it is easy to play hands separate but not together when I do this?
2: My arms and fingers are hurting a bit (especially when doing the glissandoes at the end) when practicing this as a whole when trying to do the performance speed. Any tips on coping to this?
Do you have a link to the sheet music?
Thank you Sir
