  • A performance conceived by the sun, given birth by the earth - a stream in the circle of life. A performance defending the right of existence of a fragile culture.
The performance builds on the poetry-epos "Beaivi, Áhčážan" by Nils-Aslak Valkeapää - the central author of the Sami people, the defender and developer of the yoik-music. An artist who has been the key energy in giving Sami people back a belief in their culture. A belief that was close to be wiped out by the church and the ruling Scandinavian cultures.

A beautiful and spiritual four-hour mix of poetry and music. I first heard it in Greenland 1997, and have loved it ever since.

Love his voice and he’s one of the best… found out I got a lot of Sami heritage from my fathers northern family.Trying to find the recording
I found with Nils Aslak when he was in Japan, singing Japanese poems. It was really magical.

It's Valkeapää himself. It's listed as "performed by Nils Aslak Valkeapää and Esa Kotilainen", but Kotilainen is always performing the instrumental only.
