LOL Francisco don't worry too much about being « non HIP », pretty sure Porpora, Pistocchi, Bernacchi, &c... made their Tenor students sing arias originally composed for women/castrati/female roles back in the day too. I mean, just look at all of these manuscripts, I have a hard time finding adequate Tenor stuffs LOL I even sung an Ariosti air that was transposed from D Maj to A Maj, with added english lyrics from a male's perspective (« Piu benigno par che arrida », a wonderful air from « Coriolano », originally sung by Anastasia Robinson). As for the pitch, I'm pretty sure at least in Venezia, it was also played in 440 Hz... (Sardelli used it for his recording of « Atenaide »).
Historical Informed Practice is the practice of trying to perform as close as it was performed on the days it was premiered (or written) the movement aims for more "authentic" performances of this kind of music. With baroque music many do not support any reading of this music that doesn't fulfill the cannon of performance that this practice aims. Here there are are several violations being committed: 1) The tuning is made on current pitch A=440hz instead of any historical pitch. 2) The part of cleopatra is being sung by a tenor.
Glorious singing as always ,and acoustics to match!
Love it!
