John, could you mount this to a fence in some way and set various stops so when you get ready to drill the dowel holes for your second board they would line up perfectly with no measuring or marking???
Cool new toy, as far as the handle on top goes, I would think a pistol type grip might be more comfortable in the long run, but that also depends on how often you use it, well done
Ha made a little jig for that stuff in shop class Teacher was all about doing it by hand every time so you know how to do it, 8 bits of scrap later... worked every time. w
For people who are wondering the difference between domino and a dowel joint. There is none, when using 2 dowels. But even one small domino prevents wood from turning which one dowel doesnt prevent. Also dowels have to be presicely matched on each piece. Domino "biscuit" has a very small 1/64 play in it sideways which can be great when lining up pieces. But to mister Heisz I have to say: thats the best handheld diy joint-maschine i've seen, so great job! Looks also quite precise which cant be said to everyones equal attempts to do something like this.
This is the first "Domino replacement" I've seen on RUclips that actually looks worth the trouble of making. I'd probably add marks or some other way to line it up to use something like the Beadlock floating tenons, too. The router bit for making the Beadlock tenon stock isn't crazy expensive.
I find yours one of the most inventive woodworking channels on RUclips, especially when using raw materials from the scrap bin. I don't often have the confidence (or skills) to have a go but it doesn't prevent me from enjoying what you do.
Looking at the videos that have come in last 1year or so, I must say John is constantly raising bar of innovation and creativity in DIY and woodworking space!
John's prototype is better than most manufacturers ' finished market products! Thank you, John, for sharing your skills, experience and expertise with us mortals! ;)
This one is the most cleanest router trimmer convertion video i've watched. The video itself, the steps, the explanation, and the result, really are the cleanest. Awesome 👍👍👍👍
now we’re talking john, screw pocket holes, i like this much better. this is the way to go, and much stronger than pocket holes, plus dowels are much cheaper than screws. winning lol
John, this is probably the most useful and best jig/tool builds I've seen on RUclips. Definitely market the plans, this jig solves a lot of issues with other tools that I have.
They have, Triton definitely has a dowel joinery tool similar to this. That said I've had bad luck with their products. John's will last longer than a Triton lol
Nice project John! I really like how you used that rubber to hold the unit in place! Yet another set of plans that I might have to get...........Thanks............. 👍👍😉😉
Your woodworking looks easy and simple with a lot of experience and skills.

Wow, this is the best video you ever made. Not only the camera work is impressive but also the video editing and sound. Moreover, it is a brilliant project and an excellent realization. Hats off!
That's really neat, I might have a go at making one for my DeWalt cordless router although I think that may have a thicker body. Of course it could easily be used for cutting mortise holes too just by sliding the tool between two initial holes.
I agree, using scraps is kind of a fun hobby all in and of itself. I recently had to dowel a few boards together, what a help this thing would have been. Very ingenious. I can see me making one of these with a cheap HFT trim router. Nice job!
Thanks for another excellent project to add to my to-do list. I was taught dowels in the mid-1960's, and I've never really trusted anything else. In many cases something like this would be easier to use and more precise than the typical "dowel jig" & hand-held drill.
This is great, cant wait to see you improve on the design! Been thinking about how I could make a handheld doweller, but this seems way more promising!
Nice job my man! This is invention as it’s finest. Also love the Robertson screws that you guys have up there in the great white north eh! So much better than a Phillips
John, that's a really nice prototype. Features to add would be to make the fence more like ones on plate jointers. That would allow the jig to accommodate larger diameter bits/dowels and centering of the dowel holes to the workpiece.
Todays I was thinking "I need a Dowel Joiner" and RUclips suggested this video a few hours later. I never Googled the damn thing. Can they read our minds now ???
0:37 Bitchin' transition. This is great to see, John. I've probably watched Neil Pask's homemade Domino video a dozen times and considered building one, but this is another approach to consider. Can't wait to see how it evolves.
Not concerned about the down arrows . Most of the dislikes couldn't make a " peanut butter sandwich". Have followed John's projects for some time, built the tablesaw fence from his plans which works really well and extremely affordable compared to manufactured ones on market. In our troubled times Covid19 and not knowing what the future holds for us, health wise and economically it's people like John and alot of other very talented people who put up videos like this to inspire the rest of us. Keep up the great work John and look after your health. That goes for any body else that might happen to read this. HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!!

John, I am always amazed at how you seem to come up with these ideas and how you make them come to life!

Oh! That transition at 36 second! I see you!

100% this isn't far off from the festool domino. The youtube channel "Stumpy Nubs" did something similar.
@@ryandury and a little side to side movement and you are good to go
That is a really cool project John. Double thumbs up.
Double thanks!
Great project as always, but I loved that early screen transition when you walked into the wood storage.
DJ legion yeah, that was pretty sweet
John .. just ignore those dislikers. Great project.

Looking forward to the scrap bin follow up!
I searched your videos and couldn't find one on making a dowel jig and that surprises me...
This one is the most cleanest router trimmer convertion video i've watched.
The video itself, the steps, the explanation, and the result, really are the cleanest.
Awesome 👍👍👍👍
One of your best projects yet. I can't wait to see the finished version.
John I really appreciate your creative thinking. Thanks for helping those of us who don't think like that when it comes to woodworking.
I saved this video all day until after dinner... and it was well worth it. Great build.
You're going to use this a lot and should be a lot of guys that will make this as it is so useful and not a hard build.
Ingenious,
Lee
John! I love how your brain works and your explanations really help me to understand your why. You are a great teacher!!!
now we’re talking john, screw pocket holes, i like this much better.
this is the way to go, and much stronger than pocket holes, plus dowels are much cheaper than screws.
winning lol
Very nice, the domino needs more competition
John, this is probably the most useful and best jig/tool builds I've seen on RUclips. Definitely market the plans, this jig solves a lot of issues with other tools that I have.
Really awesome John! 😃👍🏻👊🏻... looking forward to seeing you develop this further.
I didn't know until now but, this is exactly the video i wanted to see and just the right person to make it!
I just ordered a Milwaukee cordless trim router and after seeing this, it would be perfect! Can't wait until you make plans
This has to be the first item that real interest me. Thanks, I liked the rubber to keep in router place, I would never thought of it.
Wow! Even as a prototype it looks rock solid with plenty of years use in it. Great work.
For a prototype, that's a mighty fine piece of work. Keep it up!
That's a really ingenious idea. No need to over complicate, does exactly what it's ment to do 👍
Very nice John
Hi John This and the new table saw both Perfect cant wait for the improved and refined build.
Very clever. I’m surprised that no tool manufacturer has thought of this. I hope you refine this and make plans available.
They have, Triton definitely has a dowel joinery tool similar to this. That said I've had bad luck with their products. John's will last longer than a Triton lol
Love the idea, wanted to have something like this for years. Thanks for sharing
Nice prototype John, Well done!👍

Excellent job again, John.

Could always buy one of these Makita's just for it. I'm going to buy a second one and leave this one in the joiner.
Another great project. Excellent idea. Thanks for posting the build.
Simply amazing and something I would certainly love to build
Not bad for a concept and prototype. I think you might have a winner there.
Sweet! What a great way to use up those "I might use it some day" scraps. Looking forward to plans.
I agree, using scraps is kind of a fun hobby all in and of itself.
I recently had to dowel a few boards together, what a help this thing would have been. Very ingenious. I can see me making one of these with a cheap HFT trim router. Nice job!
These are my favourite types of video. John building some type of shop machine. My favourite is the bandsaw blade sharpener.
Thanks for another excellent project to add to my to-do list. I was taught dowels in the mid-1960's, and I've never really trusted anything else. In many cases something like this would be easier to use and more precise than the typical "dowel jig" & hand-held drill.
Such a brilliant mind. Thanks John
This is great, cant wait to see you improve on the design! Been thinking about how I could make a handheld doweller, but this seems way more promising!
Genial!! I appreciate all your projects! Greating and Happy Easter from Romania! Take care of you!
I like it. I've actually been looking for something like this.
Awesome build John. I really like your tool builds.
GREAT wipe transition when going to the scrap pile!
Really nice production values. You have upped your game. Nice project too.
Great idea, great tool, great video. Thanks, John.
Another clever project John! Looks pretty handy
Simply amazing, great idea
Ingenious john. 👍
Nice job my man! This is invention as it’s finest. Also love the Robertson screws that you guys have up there in the great white north eh! So much better than a Phillips
That is very clever. Much better than my Triton one
Nice little Project there John!
Very very smart sir. I love the look of the finished project. Well done.
Nice idea John!
Nice job John! Thanks for sharing the build with us!💖👌👍😎JP

Great job here John!! I’ve been looking for an inexpensive but precise way to incorporate Lockdowels into my cabinet box building at this may bet it.
Nice prototype John, good stuff.
Great video as always. Your projects are all well thought out and straight forward. I did laugh when your tape measure moved the freshly glued piece
Nice job John
You never cease to amaze
Nice! That is going to be one very handy tool.
Super cool will definitely build this for my Ryobi 👍
nice project, looks very practical
Great job!
Todays I was thinking "I need a Dowel Joiner" and RUclips suggested this video a few hours later.
I never Googled the damn thing. Can they read our minds now ???
@@NoxMinor Damn. Good point.
Looks awesome Jon! Also looks like something you could throw under a vaporous apparition.
Very Nice John!
awesome video. i bought a triton doweller a few years ago and it was total crap but your device looks much more accurate, thanks for sharing
Great work! This looks better than the commercially available doweling joiners on the market today, and it's a heck of a lot cheaper!
0:37 Bitchin' transition. This is great to see, John. I've probably watched Neil Pask's homemade Domino video a dozen times and considered building one, but this is another approach to consider. Can't wait to see how it evolves.
Awesome tool and great work again! Greetings from Spain

Great work! You truly are a dwarven artisan who lives in Canada.
Abraço João!! Feliz Páscoa!!! Parabéns pelo projeto!!
Great prototype!
John you nailed it 😂😂😂
Absolutely fabulous mate 👍
I'm a high school shop teacher and it's funny that my students aren't the only ones to leave tape measures in strange places.
A great project well done
Hi John your video are epic and tops, we appreciate the sharing of ideas. Great content thx again - MS from Calgary, AB stay well
I really like it great job
Happy Easter john. Another stellar build. I'm going to site now to see if you have plans for a workbench. Fingers crossed. Stay safe!
I have no idea how many times I`ve proped something up & soon as I let go BANG
You are a mad genius
Very cool. Plus, you have a nice little cordless router on hand.
Its great work man. Thank you
Very Nice work
this was great! I need to make this tool
Nice project John.👍👍👍
This is pretty cool!
You are a genius!
that transition was sick
That cool transition near the beginning looked familiar!
