    Just wanna tell iChang that we don’t have 1 cent in Malaysia now, so there is no change for RM0.02.
    Both 20 cents can be used, the gold colour one is new coin while the silver one is old. But both of them can be used, as well as when you pay at anywhere except the food/water machine. Some of the machines only can use new coin, btw don’t worry, most of the machines can accept any old or new coins 🙆🏻‍♀️🙆🏻‍♀️💓

  • @MieHanz

    Usually for coin change we use round up & round down to the nearest 5sen & 10sen since we no longer have 1sen in circulation .
    Ie if it's 18sen/19sen= round up to 20sen
    If its 16sen/17sen = round down to 15sen
    You can use both gold 20sen (new coin) & silver 20sen (old coin).

    Since April 2008, Malaysian do not use 1 cents anymore. There is a round up/down mechanism. If the amount ends with 2cents and below, they will round down, for example if price is RM1.02 u need to pay RM1 only. But for amount ending with 3 cents, then they will round up to 5 cents(eg. From 1.03 to 1.05).

    Both 20 cent coins have the same exact value. The silver one is just an older version of the 20 cent coin while the gold one is a newer version. Same thing with the 50 cents.
    Also Malaysia does not produce 1 cent coins anymore so if you have a value with decimals they will get rounded up or down. For example, 3 cents will round up to 5 cents. 2 cents will round down to 0.

    The gold 20 cents is "newer" generation, the silver one was older generation, if you notice the year the coins were minted the silver one is always older than golden one.

    In Malaysia we round up if it is 3, 4, 8, 9 cent or round down if it is 1, 2, 6, 7 cent. The bank stopped making 1 cent coins to save cost. Only 5, 10, 20, 50 cent coins. But if I'm not mistaken if you pay by card (debit/credit), bank will still charge you the exact amount in your statement without round off figures.

    Both 20 cents can be used. The silver one is just the old version. The gold one is new version. Furthermore in Malaysia, the cents are rounded off to the nearest multiple of 5. This is a law introduced in 2008. so if it is 0.08 or 0.09, it is automatically 0.10. but if it is 0.06 or 0.07, it becomes 0.05.

    11:29 This is because since 13 yrs ago, all payment totals will either be rounded up or down to the nearest five sen. No more 1 cent, but the coin remains legal tender. How it works:
    Before Rounding RM1.01 & RM1.02 --> After rounding RM1.00
    Before Rounding RM1.03 & RM1.04 --> After rounding RM1.05
    Before Rounding RM1.06 & RM1.07 --> After rounding RM1.05
    Before Rounding RM1.08 & RM1.09 --> After rounding RM1.10

    About that counter. In Islam, there's a practicality called zikir in which one would recite a verse (or verses) of prayers repeatedly.
    For example, saying "all praise be to Allah" a hundred time.
    So many people used that counter to keep track of the count.
    Hope this helps

    Hi iChang. In Malaysia, when you pay for something the total bill will be ROUNDED UP/ROUND DOWN to the 5cent denomination value. For example, if your bill is $12.52.....the amount you have to pay is $12.50. If your bill is $12.57......the amount you have to pay is $12.60. The reason they do this is because government discontinued 1cent coins a couple of years ago.

    in malaysia, if the change is below RM 0.05 (0.04 and less), it round off to 0. and if more than RM 0.05 it round off to RM 0.10 (10 cent). last time we used to get change for 1 cent 2 cent, but not anymore for now. the smallest changes is 5 cent , 10 cent, 20 cent and 50 cent.
    the "gold" color of 20 and 50 cent are the new coins, the silver was the oldest version coin, both can use.

    If 2.16 will become 2.15
    That's the reason you didn't receive your 2 cents balance.. 😅

But you must always check when you use the gold colour coins becouse the size for 20 sen and 50 sen can be confusing. I always give 20 sen when I want to give 50 sen... by the way... your durian handbag are so interesting....
