  • Day 2 of my South Pennines mini break and I visit the impressive Stoodley Pike.
I ascend from Withens Clough Reservoir, then walk along the ridge line away from the monument. Drop down into the valley on the northern side. Walk through Lumbutts and Mankinholes, and then climb back up Stoodley Pike (this time from the northern side).
Stoodley Pike is an incredible monument and dominates the skyline for the majority of the walk.

Good evening Kevin, thank you for another great walk 😊 yes, the weather was kind to you on this one. We don't think your hiking poles made an appearance in this one 😂. So the question is ... what would you have done if it had of started thundering and lightning ⛈️ when you were at the monument? Nice to see the litter bugs hadn't been around up there. 🙂

@@PaulandSadie good evening to you both. I hope you’re doing well - not long now before your wild camp 😁. Well spotted re the trekking poles, I forgot to bring them with me 🤣 not an issue though as I mainly utilise them on my off piste adventures (crossing streams, checking out the solidity of the ground ahead) and of course they make excellent pointing sticks 😁😂🤣. I didn’t give much consideration to the possibility of a thunderstorm. I always check the weather forecast before any walk and the forecast for the day was good. I don’t think it would have been much of an issue though as there’s lots of options for getting down to the valley below. Thanks for watching 😃

I'm not sure I'd want to be up in that monument during a thunderstorm knowing it had priveously been struck by lightning on several occasions. No not long now we are looking forward to it, have spent far to much money as it's been two of everything 😅. Still have a few things to buy, but I'm sure it will all be worth it. 😀

@@PaulandSadie good camping gear is expensive- especially the cold weather stuff. But you know what you’ll have to do once you’ve got it all - use it multiple times to get your moneys worth! 🤣👍 hopefully you’ll love the experience and become regular wild campers 🏕️
