  • Here is a short video I put together of various angles from around my 9860STS John Deere combine while we were harvesting our CanarySeed Crop. CanarySeed is mostly grown for bird food, and Saskatchewan grows 70% of the worlds supply of it! The cameras I am using are the GoPro Hero 2's with Wi-Fi BacPacs and the remote.

Thank you very muchfor watching and commenting! I love the feedback!! It took many hours to edit, and splice all this footage, and trying to get shots to work was fun too! You are right it is threshing area, more specifically the sieve area, where about are you from?

Thanks!! The seive shot could of came out a little better but I am working on a new shot! Our rotation is usually never the same but the general format is always cereal, broadleaf, cereal, broadleaf, it all depends on our chemical residue and how much rain we got, and of course if we have left over nitrogen from pulses. We plant alot of lentils, canary seed, mustard, barley, durum, a little canola some years, and some wheat, peas, and corriander.

Thank you very much!! This is a John Deere head, but very similar to a Honeybee and Macdon. I think John Deere and Macdon are partnered or something now though actually, thanks for watching and the comments! I appreciate it

It is a specialty crop so it usually stays in the lower end of the province! We did half and half chem fallow this year, but next year only a bit of the acres will remain like that, and the rest will all be continuous cropped again I think for the next few years!

Hi man just saw your video, excellent! What production does canary seed make and how much do they pay you ?

Liked the different shots. There is a lot of danger for the unwary and careless with all the moving parts. A job for the experts.

    awesome video
i love all the different algles, the filling grain tankt and espacially the inside-view of the threshing area (I have no idea how it is really called in English). more of that would be great.

Great video, deserves a lot more views. Am I correct in saying that that type header is a Macdon header (use of the rubber belt to convey the crop ...) ?

Loved the sieve shot! I run a 9600 but I don't straight cut (yet anyways). No canaryseed up this way just hard red, cps, canola, barley, and oats. What's your rotation? Mine is hard red spring, hard red spring, then canola. Sometimes subsitute a little of the wheat acres with a quarter of barley and a quarter of oats.

Beautyfull clean crop! What kind of herbicide do you use? I'm from Slovakia, and I have problems with wild oat in the canary seed crop.
    Perfect video! :)

Awesome! Coriander and canary seed is unheard of in the northwest. My dad tried durum but it'd sprout if the swaths got rain on it so we stuck to spring wheat. I've noticed a lot of summer and chem fallow down around there. It looks like 40 acres strips running north-south. Apparently it was common among German settler and my grandpa did it a bit up here. Do you guys fallow? I'm only 27 and farming on my own so I like learning other ways of farming!

And service your combine, veryy well before you get into the field, sucks fixing stuff with the fine dust over everything, esp from a calm day. Had 3/4" of dust over everything this year
