He was pretty close to him and was probably expecting some kind of response from him when he left the band so when he didn't get any,it was probably pretty painful for him and so that must have been how he coped.
Harry literally acted in ways which would offend anyone. Like on being asked about Zayn leaving the band by James, he was counting his fingers in the sense showing Zayn's existence in the band Hardly mattered to him. Obviously, he too hurt Zayn by doing that.
