- Firefighters working in record heat are making progress against a wall of flames north of Sacramento that's forced thousands to leave their homes. Meanwhile, about 200 miles south of Oroville, the fast-moving French Fire triggered evacuation orders. CBS News correspondent Elise Preston has more.

Thank you for the firefighters. And everyone be safe
Here is a thought: The difference between California land management and Ranchers and Farmers land management is that California lets the brush become overgrown, California tries to stop fires when they occur - vs. Ranchers and Farmers land management that uses fire as a preventative tool to keep the forests healthy. Forest fires are a natural part of that ecosystem for many tens of thousands of years. The Ranchers and Farmers learned this understanding from the Native Americans because it is a deep part of their culture. California will continue to burn every year until we abandoned all the ill conceived environmental policies that have been put in place since the early 1960's. You can't fix STUPID!
It is just as much a responsibility of the feds and private landowners given that the feds own 57% of all forests in California (there are 20 national forests in the state) and private landowners own 40%.
Fires are caused by ignition. Not plants. The increase in fires is a human behavior problem and is caused by an increase in ignition from arson, power lines, cigarette butts, campfires, and so on. Very few California fires are caused by lightening. Yes, some strategic prescribed burns can help reduce the amount of catastrophic fire, but let's get to the source of the problem which is humans, sometimes in a criminal manner, igniting fires.
Oh my Lord 114? Imagine those suits? Do they hydrate inside those suits?? Have mercy Jesus 🙏🏼
Someone call 📞 the White House 🏠 and inform president Newsome his State is on Fire 🔥 again.....🤦.....what happened to fuel management plan 🤐
the "record heat" causes fire bugs to come out
Yep ..... PG@E 😮
Literally I watched a man pull over with a torch and light the dry grass on fire on the state route.
@@davidmartin7039 lmaooooo thats not funny but the image is crazy, bet hes a paid government official
Fireworks didn’t help
Every year yall have wild fires and you're never ready. Ever
I grew up in the mountains and every year we would plan for the "flat landers" to come up and start fires. When we would volunteer for the forestry we would find out if any of the volunteers were from the city and they would be the last ones chosen. Growning up two horribly large fires were started by firebugs working for the forest service. One was a woman from Oregon and the other was from Sanfran. They are nearly always started by arson or the power company every year like clockwork.
Awful 😢
Humanity sure is classy.
There were always brushfires in Northern California when
we grew up there. Mid 1960s, and you always heard about
lightning strikes. Now that you are old enough to think,
it was probably some roving bum or teens who were
smoking. Drive around the state and you see scorched
hills. You always knew they were dangerous because of
wind velocity. I just remember the Rabbits having no place
to hide anymore.
Subsidized by the California Democrat Government.
Antifa arsonists at work.
A lot of these fires are senseless and uncalled because basically, it's always humans that create this problem.
Whatever happened to controlled burn to get rid of dry vegetation
Newsome playing ▶️ President
In much of the West there are many homes in rural areas anymore for safe controlled burns.,
@@michaeltabanao8092 Or too many suburban people overtaking more and more of nature? Oh, no. You must blame the Democrats for all your woes.
Over 100° in Texas for 3 weeks straight it's been
God Bless Texas!💪
The orange map would have been more helpful if it were a different color with only the fires orange.
Wow majority of the states burning..😢
jeez shoutouts to the firefighters ... the true heroes here
Be safe everyone and listen to the first responders they want us all to be safe property can be replaced but lives can’t. God bless us and keep us safe
Is it the record heat causing the fires, or people foolishly firing off fireworks? I'm guessing that it's more of the latter than the former.
arson
The heat would have to be over 572 F to start a fire. California is still about 450 degrees too cold for that.
Are the firefighters volunteers or professionally employed by the state?
Been there and did that in Mendocino the year of the Shingletown Fire followed by Clear Lake (after they laid off back to fall staffing ignoring the season). AND McTeer & me were the two immune to poison oak so we got to take the nozzle into the "fog of death." Had 13 fires we went to that year as the "home engine"
just about 120 yrs more boys and we will be able to recreate the destroyed remains of Mariposa for The Master
Dry old hollow wood/plants can start to smoke under certain conditions, a phenomena known as autoignition. Seen it happen on an isolated old wooden structure in CA. It's possible to be the gases within the wood/plants. But, that many fires? Probably includes a lot of negligent or deliberate arson. Especially around this time of "holiday" - people were already shooting off fireworks through out June, and yes, at any time of day/night within 24 hours of a day.
1:48 "For the most part the fire has moved away from people and homes". Which means that there is no need to fight it. Back off and let it burn. Get some rest.
April O Neil 😊
Praying for everyone, it's every year with this s**t
Now at a point where it keeps getting worse because it keeps getting worse and “we” can’t stop it from getting worse-good luck ✌️
Well it's a predictable weather pattern that's been on a regular cycle for 200 years
Oil companies tell you that?
@@cartoonraccoon2078No, science tells us that.
@@cartoonraccoon2078 nah meteorological records told me that. It's science. So unless you don't believe in scientific facts I don't know what to tell you
arson

NOTHING SAID ABOUT THE BASIN FIRE... THE LARGEST.
One word: ARSON.
How many of these fires were caused by the incessant home building in the California hills in remote location without fire suppression support. It has been a trend for people buying parcels in remote locations that used to be ranch and grazing land and building lavish AIRBNB homes in these areas. These are NOT safe places to build in a rent to people that do not understand the danger of dry grass and forest lands in California. The uptick in California fires coincides with this type of building practice
California has a very bad arson problem. "Wildfires" yea.. okayyy
Praying for all
Don't have "WINTER" clothes. I where the same clothes all year. When it never hits triple digits of freezing life is better. In PARADISE Winter never comes.
Well California is a hell outpost after all.
Government arson
✝️ 🇺🇲
lol “record” no!!
Do you actually think it's because it's hot?
First
Each year will (unfortunately) be worse regarding extreme temperatures in either direction. That's just how chemistry, physics, atmospheric pressures, and mankind's impacts function. Acceptance is key.
Understand that by 2120 or so, it's plausible (and likely) that humanity may need to build *underground* homes in order to function. Or, at the very least, they'll need subterranean bunkers to ride out the extreme situations.
Oh please. These predictions have never come true.
The Earth is self correcting, when it gets hot the evaporation cycle creates cloud which scatter the photons from the sun, they provide cooling shade and falling rain to add to cooling, the trick/problem is the Government seeding the clouds AND using the HARP machine to control weather.
We will destroy ourselves before climate change , no bunkers needed, lawn chair, sunglasses and a favorite drink and observe multiple mushroom clouds
You better get started right away then!
The heat would have to be over 572 F to start a fire. California is still about 450 degrees too cold for that.
Courtesy of the Gavin Newsom. Now we know what Hells gonna be like.
Blaming a governor for wildfires. Sound logic.
@@danpiazza3803 You'd think, except they stopped cutting the wild grasses in the state for fire prevention like they use to, those programs were de-funded 30+ years ago.
The wildfires are always because of lack of funding for controlled burns, or the electric company not maintaining their lines. Not the governor's fault.
@@dadevi He has a bully pulpit and direct excutive powers over state agencies. To say he has no influence on the issue is fallacious.
Mismanagement
Should have listened to President Trump when he said to reduce fuel loads.
But no, bringing in and funding the "immigrants" was more important.
Oh! And lets not forget the funding for high speed rail to nowhere.
But they were building homes for the homeless until they stopped and can’t figure out where those billions went. But hey they’ll blame the white man for these fires because it’s racism.
Right. The stable genius would have fixed wildfires.
@@ElSantoLuchador he did tell California to spend the money to clear the brush about 5 years ago.
Move if u don’t like it
Now we can listen to president newsome.....on how to fix California....oddities of life 🤪
If heat due to the weather caused fires, then does anybody know why the African continent is not on fire during Summer?
Thank you unregulated capitalism
You people think capitalism in California is unregulated LOL!
You are going to be really disappointed when you find out it is government not capitalism...
Competent government would properly manage their forests...
Finland has no issues, because they properly manage their forests...
Further back....
Summer is caused by an economic system?
LOL. You are clueless.
Ohh so capitalism is to blame? I thought it was racism 😂. Strange I don’t see any Palestine protestors 😂
Why fight it anymore? Just let the whole state burn. Newsome needs to feel how he's made it a living hell for everyone already.
Wait till he's president, everyone can experience it
Oh come on, stop being so shrill.
