    I've lived in Indiana, USA for the last 24 years now, but before that I was born and raised in Montreal. I remember in the late 90's, I went to Dawson College and between classes I'd sometimes have a long break to wander downtown, (I even got a tattoo between classes once lol). I remember on St. Catherine and Place Phillips, there used to be a computer store. I would go there sometimes and ogle all the new PC tech and games, lol. What a nerd I was, but those were happy memories! Looks like it's all cafes and restaurants now.

    Enjoyed the walk and even did not pay attention to my knee on the treadmill. Now let me tell you about the former Mount Royal Hotel now known as the Les Cours Mont Royal. Both my mother and aunt worked there during the hey day..40’s. Big name American entertainers came during the war and after. I believe it was the band leader Kay Kaiser who hit on my aunt. Naturally she rebuffed him and he reported her for not being “affable”. The boxer Jack Demsey witnessed it and covered for her. She adored Jimmy Durante who was a kind gentleman. She said Americans would come up to Montreal just to eat the food. Now don’t think if you are eating in fine hotel that it would be hygienic. Waiters would be in the kitchen wiping the sweat off their forehead only to wipe the forks with the same towel. Then there was an incident when a customer kept on sending back the eggs as they were not satisfactory. The cook got fed up and spit in the eggs and sent them back. The customer tasted it and said “Now he got it right”. Today that would be a criminal charge. There was one lady who would regularly come to the hotel and send for room service and greet the bell boys naked. Some volunteered for the going and some refused. When the hotel was built it was the largest hotel in the British Empire. My husband and I spent our honeymoon there. My husband being from a very small town in Oklahoma never saw such a grand hotel. He was blown away. That year 71 was the worst snow storm in 150 years and he will never forget that.

      Be careful, not to overload your knees. I kept my pace to the minimum... Oh boy... Those stories. Thank you for sharing them. I had no idea the cours mont royal was the hotel back in the day. Those stories should be use in the movies. The verdict...never ask to exchange your order or you never know what's coming.

    What a sad place Montreal has become, literally no life anymore especially downtown, completely dead. Lockdown, covid 19,Mayor Plante,Legault all have killed the city... thank God in Calgary most things are opened including gyms and restaurants for dine in and soon enough everything will reopen, in Montreal they still have the 8pm curfew on top of all the shit going on. Lucky I left Montreal in December and stayed here in Alberta until Quebec decides to be normal again.

    • @GermanKorb

      @@GermanKorb for the worst city hit by covid the government did a good job at shutting down the airport 👏 👍 lolll wich they never did, for months and months ot was business as usual as thousands of ppl coming and going daily during a pandemic, wich increased our cases and brought in new covid variants from different countries like the UK and South African variant,Costco,Walmart, dollarama all big box stores jammed packed,massive lineups,while gyms, restaurants had to shut down, also, many other businesses died out while amazon and all the big corporations became ever richer then ever,big pharmaceutical companies make billions, regular citizens being punished and deprived now for over a year, Legault and company did a horrible job handling the pandemic and DR Tam as well,she wrote a book about how to handle pandemics and etc.. and she basically contradicted herself and did the complete opposite when the crisis hit lolllll. Everything could be opened and business as usual as long every place has proper procedures and protocols in place. And the 8pm curfew is complete nonsense, there's absolutely 0 data that it helps reduce the numbers and cases. Absolutely 0 data anywhere.

    • @GermanKorb
      @GermanKorb  3 года назад

      Bro I completely agree that the pandemic was handled poorly and that flights should have been banned earlier. However, you can't just shut down the airport. The airport has to be running 24/7 for other types of flights. There are connecting flights, emergency landings, deviations, remote locations flights, training flights, etc. So the airport has to be in operation. March was also the period where snowbirds had to come back as well.
      As for the curfew, no it doesn't stop the spread. I think the logic behind it is that they want less people on the roads simply to lower the number of accidents. I'm guessing a lot of car accidents happen at night and the health system is too busy to deal with people in emergency room because they were involved in an accident. That's the only logic I see behind the curfew.
