Thank you for this video, incredibly informative. I had no idea nematodes were a thing, and these fungus gnats have eroded my sanity to unsafe levels. I've been using sticky traps and that's helped me identify which plants they're coming from, but now it's time to treat the problem at its source. Can't wait to live gnat-free again!
I also get my nematodes from Ladybird Plant Care. They are very effective and you really don't see the nematodes at all. The idea creeped me out at first, but I quickly forgot they were in my plants and was delighted to see a reduction in gnats within 5 days and the outbreak I had in the summer was gone in a few weeks.
Nice video. Gnats don’t have to be an issue and I think it’s sad how many people give up on this hobby because of them. It’s great that there are different options to match personal preferences. Glad you mentioned the downsides to adding hydrogen peroxide to soil. Just FYI, from what I see online, BTi (an ingredient in Mosquito Bits and Dunks) isn’t something pests become resilient to. That’s what makes it pretty great (beyond the fact that it also doesn’t harm roots). Totally get why some people don’t want to have to reapply it but it’s a viable option if adding it to your routine sounds reasonable. Either way, pest warfare is cool too.
I used nematodes in the fall for the first time. They are awesome! Despite having several electronic traps, which were catching TONS of adult fungus gnats, they were still a constant problem in my house. Within days of using the nematodes, the difference was really noticeable. Within two weeks, I wasn't seeing them. I'm definitely a believer!
I've been trying to get some nematodes here in NZ forever, they always go out of stock so quickly. I've been considering getting Bioforce Hypermites (Stratiolaelaps scimitus) in the meantime. They predate fungus gnats, as well as other mites and nematodes (not sure if this includes the beneficial ones), but its worth a try probably.
I always use the nematodes on my moss poles since they gnats live in there as well. Also use it in my pon since I’ve seen gnats come crawling out. I’m guessing they are eating the roots at die off.
Hi Emma, this is great information and I think I may give them a try. Speaking of the yellow sticky sheets, I get the large ones and place them in the open window of my plant room and OMG, the amount of gnats is crazee. They are so small that they come in through the screening of the window. But it does help so much in reducing the flying ones in spring and summer when I have the windows open!
cool video ;-) I was wondering if you (or anybody really) had ever heard of or even tried using neem cakes to make neem tea and water your houseplants with it? Theres relly not a lot of informations about it online and im very curious to know if it really works
I mostly keep succulent plants and they stay on the dry side most of the time, so the only time I really have big issues with this is in my germination/seedling trays, and they have decimated countless lithops seedlings eating away at their roots. My question is, do you think this is safe to use to inoculate the soil just before germinating to use as a preventative? Or would you say wait till I see the damage starting? Great video btw!!!
I read that fungus gnats can also live in semi-hydroponics on the lechuza pon website. I was trying to find out if I could use nematodes also in pon to treat all plants in my home. Thoughts?
Hi thankyou for this video. Ive just ordered some nemotodes. You mention making the plant soil damp. So should i water them all today? As the nemotodes should be here in a couple of days?
Thank you for the advice but this video could have been heavily edited 😅 a lot of repeating and rambling. Please don’t take offense to that I promise it isn’t personal, just some advice! But great info and will look into this but *knock on wood* mosquito bits solved my problem.
What a fantastic idea for a video! I buy nematodes and they come in tiny packs that just get placed into my plants and watered for 3 days. I like yours better but I’m in Canada so I will take what I can get 🎉🎉 but I also have quite a few pings that trap the adults

The gnats are also attracted to the color blue
Got my nematodes today. So many thrips... I'm hopeful!

YES! So I did this whole process last thursday and just a week later I've seen a drastic reduction in them! Soo good!

The nematodes are very cool 😀🇨🇦
Fungus gnats do live in moss poles. I have all my plants in semihydro and had fungus gnats flying out of my moss poles.

Great idea!
Thank you for the info! I hate those gnats too. Going to try the nematodes asap. Glad they will replace the mosquito bits/dunks.

Been using mosquito bits with every watering for 3 yrs and haven’t seen a fungus gnat since.. I need help with phorid flies
thank you!!! this is gonna save my plants i love finding out new info about them

nematodes worked for me and mosquito bits didn't seem to help.
What do you do with the leftover 4 liters you first diluted?
If I have too much to cover my collection, I'll use a stronger dilution. It isn't harmful. I basically just make sure they all get used!
I love your video! So informational! Gonna try this out!
The gnats have got into the reservoirs of my Pon plants and they keep coming back. So there is that 😅
Hi thankyou for this video.
Ive just ordered some nemotodes.
You mention making the plant soil damp.
So should i water them all today? As the nemotodes should be here in a couple of days?
Can you put them in nutrient solutions? Or does it need to be just plain distilled water?
Can I order if I'm in the U.S?
unfortunately Ladybird Plant Care is UK only. But I'm sure there's US sellers out there too!
Wow, this couldn't come at a better time! I was just looking at hydrogen peroxide to add to water to get rid of these buggers! ❤
nematodes are a muuuuuch better option! Good luck!
I have been curious about these! What does it look like inside the packet when you open it?
It just looks like a yellow powder
