Check out my video on hooking up The Firman Generator to Natural Gas ruclips.net/video/GDuipkRdZBc/видео.html
I make my Firman Tri-Fuel a little quieter by making a tent out of two 4x4 sheets of plywood. Lean them against the two sides to deflect the sound to the ground.
Trying to line up the plug with the inlet at night? Take a marker, or white-out, and make a line on the plug & socket to line up the two before you twist it. Keep battery charged. Install emergency lights that come on when power goes out. Install them where you set up the generator and at the panel. Have an extra spark plug. Maintenance is easier when using natural gas to power the generator. The oil town I live near is Houston.
Thank you very much. Those are some really good tips especially the one with the white out or the white pen. I’m definitely gonna share these upcoming podcast episode. Appreciate it take care.
Hey thanks for the reviews on this generator. Decided to upgrade my 20 year old gen this year to a propane set up and went with this model. FYI found it on ebays firman store on sale for 499. It was refurbished by firman but came with 2year warranty. Thats delivered. Keep a eye out for the ebay sales and save some $$
Thank you. Costco is running their June coupons with $100 (US) off of these. Here in the South 48, $699. I am in on one of these. Thanks for your update!
Nice always love getting a deal on generators
I have the grey one that I purchased in April 2022. I just had to run my house for almost 4 hours a few days ago. It ran my central AC with no problem, on both propane and gasoline. Good job on the 50amp upgrade. That is what I went with from the beginning. It runs great.
About 4 weeks ago I bought the new Gray model for 699 at Costco, and am very pleased with it so far
Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge. Living in Houston and I am thinking of buying this generator
I just got mine today for $699 in Texas! Super excited!
Just got it for $799 in Houston
Send off for sand bags and make a sandbag 'dog house' for your generator. If needed you could always move the doghouse to a different location.
Just bought mine from Costco for 990 canadian$ can't wait to put this baby on test .always own 1
just paid CAD $649+tax at costco today. so they do go 300 off sometime
@tonka9803 yes i saw 👀 it today.i wss piss😬🤣
I have the champion duel fuel 7000 w I bought at Costco back in 2016 I think I paid around 400 in Ca. I live in Baja California I have been through 3 hurricanes had to use it for days does the job but it is super loud I need to upgrade I seen Honda has a fuel injected super expensive 7000w
Great video! you explain everything very well! 10/10 I'm going to pick one up once it gets on sale !
Thanks sam
I live in SE Fla. I purchased this for $699 June 2021. I run it on reg gas. My suggestions for others that ONLY use it for Hurricane power outage backup.
Like all my gas eng equipment that’s for emergency use during a season like Hurricane. After using it and preparing it for a hopefully long term outage. Drain the gas tank of gas. Run the engine to drain the carb and fuel lines. Drop the carburetor fuel bowl and empty any remaining gas and reinstall. Lastly. Pull the spark pull and add a 1/4 cup of engine oil. Slowly rotate the engine using the pull cord a few good revolutions. Install the spark plug and remove the battery power lead. Pull the start cord over slowly every quarter. Charge the battery a few times a year, but don’t trickle or otherwise leave it charging. Do these simple things and it can sit for years if stored out of the weather. I’ve got 50 years experience doing this. Starting it every few months is wasteful and a pain, but will also work.
Side comment: Firman now says fuel use is 12 hrs for 8 gallons at 25% load. They did say 50% load 3 years ago. Nobody has published or shared actual gasoline usage from use under higher loads or any measured avg load. So at 60-80% average power, it’s anyone’s guess how long it runs on an 8 gal tank.
Great review Tim.
Thanks, Hoss
Thanks for the details only approach, watched too many others with lots of filler, few answers!
Thabsk dave took me a while to learn the right way
Runs well on propane during an outage.
I tried to find your gas hookup video but no luck. I have the same generator with a plan to hook it into my whole house, stand alone propane tank. Guys that hooked up the tank said that the generator requires a high pressure gas feed line and that's not the same as what they install for the houses' cook top and water heater. Have you heard this from Firman or experienced it anything like this?
We have gone through 5 of these in 2 years trying to use it in RV living…😢 not ok for 14 hours!
Natural gas line - I bought a 3/4” ID - do I need to use the 1/2” ID sold by firman?
Not any of the reading research I’ve done, especially if you’re running longer you need that volume in order to feed the generator at the right pressure when it gets compressed going into the generator. I’ve had lots of people on here. Tell me they used three-quarter inch without an issue, especially for longer runs.
great review man
Thanks
Just bought mine today (6/24/23) at Costco (Mobile, AL). Paid $700 + tax. So excited. Thank you for your video.
Just out of curiosity, what do you think is the most efficient form of power, the gas, propane, or natural? I appreciate your time.
That’s a good question. You get the most power out of gas, next is propane then natural gas. But gas is the hardest to store. My personal system is I use natural gas because it’s convient and simple and a little less smelly. But I keep a significant amount of gas on hand as well for worst case scenerios I just rotate the gas.
If it helps when you have time chekc out my generator playlist I go into details on a lot of these topics in it.

I don't know if you'll read this because it's a bit of an older video but I was wondering if you have any tips for starting the generator on NG. I find it always takes me a while of cranking and waiting around until it finally goes, and I think it may be due to the air in the 25 feet 1/2" hose. Is there any good way to purge the hose?
Hey, thanks for messaging me. I appreciate that I struggle with the same thing and yes I think because natural gas is not high pressure. It takes a little while for the house to get through. I find it helps a little bit by trying to make sure you don’t have any tight turns in the house and kind of spread it out a little bit so it’s stretched out but if you have it all bunched up that can restrict the flower bed but it’s just a matter of physics really, I tend to actually start mine on natural gas or propane first get it warmed up and then switch over to gasoline. Sometimes if I’m running it on gasoline, just burn the junk out of the carburetor.
Where can I find that trickle charger that you have listed in the video?
So I can run on gas? I don't know how I would do a natural gas hook up..
Yes Absoutkey it will run on gasoline, propane or natural gas
Just picked it up today $699 USD. Yes $699 which was $200 off
What is it???? No description of what it is
can you parallel connect to another Firman?
Typically only the inverter generators from Furman can be parallel connected
Some crackhead won't steal it 😅😂 it's 300 pounds with a full tank of gas
You most definitely are underestimating the ingenuity of my local crackheads
@@TOOLMANTIMSWORKSHOP🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Never underestimated the POWER OF A CRACKHEAD
It is not an inverter generator which is NOT clean power for running electronics. It is VERY LOUD!
What’s the output
I wholesale/retail these and many others direct!! I make money selling at 579.99 12-13k watt dual fuel or just gas and I can put on trie fuel kits for cheaper than you can imagine. (big names brands) for the same price as these if not cheaper. Reach out if interested
Costco is now a slacker in this market. Home Depot now sells a 9KW TRIFUEL Inverter Genny for $1550! You can't beat that.
Costcos 9k trifuel is 899 in store
@@Order66Wfries It is a non-inverter piece of crap. You need an Inverter Generator to protect electronics.
Yeah I got the firman trifuel 9.4kw one for like 800 shipped. About a year ago still haven't ran it lol
It's 700 now
The firman is 699 now
I don’t understand why you keep showing the gray one in your thumbnail if you don’t have that one. I’m doing research on the gray one. Your channel is somewhat misleading.
He tells you at the beginning the only difference is the CO2 warning light on the panel, it's still the same generator.
@@John-li6tn …….🤔 I Don’t remember asking anyone but the OP.
@@6xflowerranch890how’d that go for ya
That THD is a deal killer. TERRIBLE. Never buy anything that even comes close to exceeding 10% THD. >5 is a MUCH better option. Don't even know why this video/creator is 'recommending' this. Logistically, it may 'give' you power, but not clean and not conditional to more common electronics today. It's basically a multi-powered use generator. Clean power needs? Don't even think about this one.
Great video! Incredibly efficient with answering all the questions. Thanks for putting this together. Earned yourself a new subscriber.
thanks trippin
Good vid. I’m subscribed. Like the info and presentation.
thanks peter
Power from the grid is less than 5% distortion, don’t know what level will cause damage to appliances but there’s a chance it will. An inverter generator might be another possibility.
Adding a safety to your fuse box is smart. Simple slide safety, to switch on the fuse to the generator you have to turn off the main and it blocks the main from being closed.
Tag out so you can’t backfeed the power lines coming into your home.
I have since made a ew upgrades to the safety of my back feed including an interlock switch and a female instead of a male end on the extension cord. Thanks much for the suggestions
The manual will have a long-term storage process. If you do not need it for months on end, consider placing it into long term storage mode. That is similar to the way it was stored prior to you buying it. I do this for my 1998 Generac XL5500. Last summer when I ran a test, I checked the oil, added Stabilized gas, and it started on the first pull. Ran it under load, then placed it back into long term storage mode. As for your Generator interlock at the Pannel. I might not always be home when power is needed. So, I wrote a protocol to follow, placed it next to the breaker box and taught my family to follow the protocol. That way, during an emergency, it is not a guess as to whether I started things up correctly, I just follow the steps in the protocol.
Did you place it inside an enclosure to protect it from rain, water, heat etc?
@@spirokalu Yes, it stays in the corner of my out building with its box covering it. That keeps it from getting dusty during its downtime. It is down for at most one year, when I do its yearly test run. Then it goes back into storage. At 26, it still started on the first pull last summer. I will have to run it again this summer under load for a little while.
Thanks for doing a follow up video on this. It’s the few posters like you that make this information so valuable to the rest of us. Much respect for follow ups.
What model # are u explaining
I bought this 2 years ago. We lose power often. I haveitrunning on NG. Starts well and has been a life saver. Very good generator.
I recommend.
Wow just found your channel
I’m glad I did
Good information
Oh, thank you very much and welcome to the workshop
You nailed all the relevant questions! Subbed!
Thanks sodium. Welcome to the workshop
Can you use propane to run it , as opposed to natural gas?
I'm two years into my Costco Firman dual fuel. I have a 5 ton AC and put a soft start on it. The AC starts up and runs for about 5 to 10 minutes then I hear the generator bog and it dies. At first I thought it was something else kicking on and causing it but I turned off every breaker but the AC and it still did it two more times. Not sure what is going on but it don't run the AC for very long. My AC neighbor said it was the AC not seeing stable voltage but to me its the compressor that is bogging and dyeing so not sure that is the AC causing the issue as he states. What say you?
The generator isn't big enough for your application. Use an amp clamp to see how many amps it's putting on the generator..
@Razz-es9qw it puts the most at start up which didn't kill it. It doesn't pull 50 amps while running.
Thanks for the video it is extremely informative. I am upgrading my 5000 watt Craftsman generator converted for Propane to the Firman 7500. Did you remove the flared 3/8” fitting on the unit to install the bigger one for the longer hose or just use adapters to step it up. I use a 20 foot 3/4 hose similar to the one you use for natural gas to connect to my inground propane tank. My other question is how do you prime the long hose. My conversion kit has a prime button on the back but the Firman does not.
Thanks so much for your help.
Jeff
I used adapters to step it up, because it really doesn’t matter as long as you have for feed all the way to the generator generator steps that gas way down to a tiny jet anyway
Thx for the video! I’m enjoying the same Gen.
Question - when you run it through its paces what kind of load to you put on it?
Typically either an angle grinder or a 1500 W heat gun figure that will put enough of the load on a 110 outlet to at least let me know things are working there and then I’ll put the splitter into the twist lock plug and check each of those as well
I have one and never ran it on gasoline yet. I only run mine off natural gas and i love it
im a big fan of nat gas, so much cleaner
Can I hook this up to my natural gas BBQ outlet and then plug into my Generlink?
I mean technically yes but there is a lot involved in that, the biggest thing is making sure you have a robust enough supply ie flow of nat gas to run your gen with, I would totally get an expert to at least consult about
I run mine off a standard bbq line with no problems. I used a 25 foot hose with a transfer switch without any problem. It works as it should.
snatched 2 up last week for $699 each.
That’s a good price
I have a 4 ton Trane variable speed hvac that the Firman powers with no problem since the start-up isnt for the full 4 tons. Just be smart and dont try to cool down an 80 degree home by setting your thermostat at 70 degrees. Cool it down in 2 degree increments. The main reason I boight this Firman was it was able to run my hvac, also because I can quick connect it into my NG source. Closest thing to a whole home genearator for a lot less money.
Thanks for the video. I've owned this generator for a couple of years now and am very happy with it. I run it on propane but I am considering using it with natural gas. How much should I expect to spend on getting a natural gas line tapped into my main gas line?
This is a great product for a power outage!
yes it is
What about running laptops and electronics? Firman has an inverter generator for this. How well does this one do with electronics maybe through a battery?
Great video but I have a question about the little ground screw under the 30amp plug. I checked the manual and it says consult with an electrician. Do I need to use this ground to be able to run my furnace or other appliances? I bought the Dual Fuel model, now $1299.99 cad shipping included
Most likely no, but maybe. Does your ground in cord and receptacle connection for that 240 plug connect back to the panel? You can do a continuity check with a meter. If it does you don't need the stud. If it doesn't you need to bond it to the panel somehow. If you don't know what I'm talking about in the slightest look up how grounding works, or do as the manual says and consult and electrician.
You probably don't need to connect it, but you could create a hazardous connection for yourself and sensitive electronics if don't probably ground the generator frame with the building electrical system.
I like (NOT) how they do not use BTU rating on this unit.
Just picked it up today from Costco In Missouri for 699.00
Watched multiple videos on this generator and so far this is my favorite
Would you have links to the quick connect fittings?
I have just bought the same one.
Does it have a fuel shut off valve?
Thank you for this info. Great stuff
That THD is pretty high. There’s a chance it could fry electronics.
Is there a good way to prevent that from happening or is the only option to get an inverter generator?
I just got one at costco for $699.
Was it the tri-fuel or the dual-fuel? I saw the tri-fuel on sale at Costco online for 799. The local Costco has the dual-fuel for 699.
Mine are not refurbished
With all warranty and extended warranty available for next to nothing. I have 3 100x100 foot “warehouses of them with new one’s coming in daily
is this big enough to run my house incase of power outage in CA?
Terrible THD…..don’t use this crude generator for powering any electronics only power tools
