hey Mr. American I love your passion for the game! I grew up with it, so I think I'm in a position to comment. Your source video I found confusing, so no wonder you did. This video was all spin bowling, where the bowler primarily threatens the batsman with sideways movement after the bounce. The two main variations are, when bowled by right-handers (the left-hander's equivalent moves the other way). These are the classical descriptions and methods:
1) off spin
Breaks to the right. Classical example at 2:21 Jason Kreza in your video. You are absolutely right in comparing this to a quarterback throw. The ball is spun from the index finger. The forearm supinates.
2) leg-spin
Breaks to the left. Also known as 'wrist spin'. Classical example at 3:46 Shane Warne. The ball is spun from the ring finger. This is harder to bowl accurately than the off break, and legspinners are thus rarer beasts. The forearm pronates.
Spin bowlers almost invariably fall into one, and only one, of these two categories. The off break or leg break is called their 'stock' delivery, the most common thing they bowl. Batmen can very easily the difference between these two bowling types, as one action is based on arm supination and the other pronation. The other assorted deliveries are their variations, to fool the batsman who is playing for the off or leg break. The off-spinners variations quoted are the arm-ball, doosra, carrom ball, teesra. These have to be delivered to look like the off-break. The arm-ball is a 'dummy' ball without sideways spin. Instead of spinning the ball like an off-break, the spinning finger simply drags down the back of the ball pushing it forwards. The doosra and carrom ball... as far as I am aware they are the same. They spin to the left and the spin is delivered with a finger flick alone. As the action has to the be the same as the off-break, they don't generally spin very far, but any unexpected deviation is a potent weapon. Off-spinners also have a 'top-spinner', which just has topspin. These generally bounce higher than expected, and pick up pace off the bounce (imagine a tennis serve).
The legspinner has his own variations. Most famously, the googly. Also known as 'Bosey'or 'wrongun'. This is delivered like the legbreak but with the arm pronated to such an extent that the ball comes from the back of the hand rather than the front, and it thus spins like an off-break. A great exponent of this ball was Abdul Qadir ruclips.net/video/Fr72IMeCqCY/видео.html
Legspinners also have topspinners. HIgh quality offspinners and legspinners can both vary the spinning angle of their stock delivery somewhere between pure sidespin and pure topspin, with pure sidespin 'turning' (deviating) more, and topspin bouncing more. For both legspinners and offspinners, the most common delivery is a seam angle of around 45%, a mixture of topspin and sidespin.
Other legspin variations are:
flipper: 5:14
spun from the thumb. 5:14 This is either a backspun delivery, or 'flying saucer' spin, or somewhere between. The ball skids low, straight, and faster than expected
slider: 5:52
like the offspinner's arm ball, it's a 'dummy' variation. The ball has backspin and travels straight doing nothing remarkable at all.
Confusing things about the video:
0:54 this is not an 'arm ball', it is a standard off-break
1:10 again, not an 'arm ball', this is the left-handers equivalent of an off-break (these bowlers are called 'slow left-arm', or 'left arm spin', not legspinners.)
1:28 This is a picture of 'mystery spinner' Jack Iverson! He bowled with a legbreak action, and whatever he bowled (a fascinating subject in itself), it wasn't carrom balls. He bowled with a leg-break action.
2:36 This is Muralitharan, a brilliant bowler, and his action is unconventional with far greater wrist movement than other offspinners
2:55 Teesra I confess, I don't know much about this one. This delivery looks like a topspinner produced with an unusual method for an offspinner.
4:40 I have never heard of 'type 1' or 'type 2' googlies. I have been trying to bowl these all my life, so know a bit about them. It's very hard to bowl, so most googlies seen in international cricket are mainly topspin with just a little turn, however it is possible to bowl a googly which turns significantly (see the Qadir video)
hope this is helpful

@@bungsbodulus ikr im so smart
Howsit bro, nice to see you again. Admittedly this was extremely technical even for a cricket lover like myself. These were all variations of spin bowling where the ball is released in different ways from the hand and it does different things after hitting the pitch. Some balls might go straight, some might turn a lot, others may turn a little, the idea is to confuse the batsman in the hopes that they make a mistake.
2:30 When a bowler has a short runup and the speed of the ball delivered is between 60-100 kmph(37-62mph) and the ball spins or cuts in either direction it's a spin ball
If the bowler takes a long runup and the speed of the ball delivered is between 120-160 kmph (74-100mph) it's a seam or pace ball, pace ball also has spin and cut variations.
A spin bowler tries to confuse the batsman with the spin of ball whereas the pace bowler does the same with variations in speed 👍
Every one of these balls are examples of spin bowling - the video you watched had a misleading name
Just adding to the explanations already given:
Spin Bowling is 2 basic styles of slower bowling from shorter runups that put spin on the ball to cause it to dip or loop in the air and "turn" or deviate off the pitch.
Finger spin aka Off spin - Nathan Lyon (Aus) and Muralitharan (Sri Lanka)
Leg spin aka Wrist Spin - Shane Warne (Aus)
Seam and Swing Bowling are either Medium pacers or Fast Bowlers
Seam bowling tries to bowl with the seam hitting the pitch and "cutting" or "seaming" to either the off side or leg side - off cutter/leg cutter. Glen McGrath (Aus),
Swing bowling uses the air travelling over the "rough" and "shiny" sides of the ball to cause it to swing in the air either way - similar to curve balls and droppers/risers in baseball. James Anderson (Eng)
There can arguably be another category and that is the Express Bowlers- Bret Lee, Shoaib Ahktar etc, the guys who can send the ball at 150-160kmh (up to 100mph) at the batsmen on a regular basis. They take the seam/swing dynamic and turn it up to 11.
3:08 the batsman see the ball spinning since the ball is at slow speed between 37-62 mph, he thinks the ball with either turn left or right and prepares for that but the ball doesn't turn and goes straight and beats the batsman. 👍
This video was focused only on spin bowling....(they put revolutions on that ball). Here bowling speed the lesser the better cuz it gives chance the ball to spin more.
The other kind is pace or seam bowling where there is role of pronounced seam on the ball... They use that seam to produce different effects... swing bowling also comes under this category (similar to curve balls in baseballs). Here more the speed of the ball better it is.
Let me give you a simple breakdown. Pace bowling is all about fast bowling. You running in hard and bowl. Sping bowling is when you have a short run-up but using one of these spin deliveries to bowl. So the speed of the bowl reaching the batsman is very high when you have a long run-up which generates pace. So there's a different set of bowls for pace bowlers namely Swing bowling, seam bowling etc.
the video is about the different types of spin bowling.
good examples of pace bowlers to look at, are Jasprit Bumrah, Dale Steyn, Mitchell Starc, Brett Lee, Wasim Akram, Shoaib Akhtar and Tim Southee, all really good examples of pace bowlers, other good choices are Courtney Walsh and Curtley Ambrose from when the West Indies ruled the world of Cricket.
In this video all of the item shown are spin bowling not pace.
The easy way to understand Off and On sides is this - If you are bowling to a right handed batsman, anything to the batsmans left is the On side, the area to his right is the Off side. So an Off Spin Bowler will try and make the ball move to the batters right and position his fielders to take advantage of this.
if the baller is bowling slow and his runup is small that is spin and the different spins confuses the batsman and when the spin touches the ground it spins but a fast or pace is well fast and swings midair before touching the ground
As an Aussie ive always wanted to see an american really have a look at cricket. Not saying baseball is easier or harder. But personally i think cricket is more unforgiving.. you make one mistake and depending on the format youre done.
There are different types of bowling like fast , spin u watched types of spin that cricketers do
Batsmen have a huge flat bat. Huge % of the time the bat will meet the ball and runs would be scored. 10 wickets are needed to dismiss the side on 10 good balls. That is tough to do. In fact if bowlers don't try hard, batsmen will play all day long and score mountains of runs. Bowlers (fast, seam, spin) have to devise tools to get them out.
Hi Average American, Loving That You Are Back
These were variations of different types of spin bowling no pace bowling involved in here
You are doing the great work for this game in US and it has it is thanks.
For spinners there are two types of spinners finger spinners (who use fingers to spin the ball) and wrist spinners (yeah u got it they use their wrists like Shane warne)
There are different types of spin bowling techniques
Leg break
Off break
Topspin
Googly
Doosra
Teesra
Slider
Arm ball
Flipper
Undercutter
Carrom ball
Much more
For seam bowling there are medium pace bowlers, medium fast pace bowlers and fast pace bowler, all have variations in speed of ball
Different techniques
In swing
Out swing
Reverse swing
Bouncer
Slower ball
Yorker
Off cutter
Leg cutter
Knuckle ball
Much more
Just Google them on how they are bowled 👍👍
those are all spin bowling types, not pace for swing. just plain slow spin bowling. they might be slow but if you wait till after the bounce, you are gone, because a pro spinner can do crazy things with a ball. there are mainly 2 types of spin bowlers off spin, and leg spin. for right handed batsman, off spin is when ball into you from the right, leg spin is it will come into you from the left, both will have crazy turn angles. doosra is a off spin bowler bowling a ball that bounces like a leg spin, but he still bowls it with an off spin grip. a googly is like a doosra for leg spinners. teesra is a fake out, it spins a lot but there is no turn angle to the spin, to confuse the batsman. spinners have very short run up. but they usually have slow pace on the ball to get max spin but they are very accurate when it comes to where the ball should bounce.
These were different dileveries not different types of bowling. The main type of bowling are spin and fast with alternative types coming from grip and the hand you are using for example left arm fast or right arm fast. The spin is divided into three types wrist spin, off spin and chinaman/slow left arm. Fast bowling is divided into seam and swing. Seam is movement of the pitch and swing is movement in the air. Fast bowling is divided into different part according to pace like fast, fast medium, medium fast, medium. The main difference between fast bowling and spin bowling is that fast bowlers take a relatively long runup to bowl where as conventional spinners dont rup up to the pitch. So this is mqin difference between fast and spin bowling which are the main types of bowling while seam, swing, off spin etc are sub branches. I hope this explains things well. Plus there is a limit to the number of words you can write in a comment. So i didn't do very deep.

It is possible that this comment will be way to late however ill do it anyeay. Spin bowling explenation. Spin is the bowling technique of rotating the ball through the air to create movement off the ground, it is generally a slower paced artform and the video you watched explained some of the techniques, bowling is about beating the batsman spin bowlers use technique to deceive and manipulate.
Now for spin, there is multiple types of spin bowing the two most common is off break which means the ball moves the direction of the arm so a right arm off break will move the ball on the ground turning to the right side , a leg spinner is the opposite so right arm leg spinner will move the ball to the left. There are deliveries they use to the the opposite with the same action to the deceive . This is the basics. If anyone wants me to do seam or explain more, please ask.
