It was an amazing summer 1995, there’s been hot weather since obviously but not as sustained as that special year. Great times too, things were just nice back then. Fabulous summer and a white Christmas, one of the best times
Yeah, here in The Netherlands one of the biggest summers of the 90s. But if you see the latest weatherforecast, 31 degrees is nothing compared to the 40 degrees we will get tomorrow (19-7-22)
Can't help but notice how much friendlier the weather used to look before they decided to swap orange for red when depicting higher temps. Like we must all be kept in perpetual fear of everything.
I lived in Devon in 1995 & it was a very long hot summer. Cloudless skies & hot day after day, especially for almost the whole of August. I lived on the edge of Exmoor which practically turned into a dustbowl.
And we thought 30°C was hot back in 1995! Nothing like the fierce heat we get now into the 40s in 2022. At least 1995 was a one off summers before and after 95 were cooler and fresher. Now it’s been heatwaves every bloody year since 2017!
1995 was unbelievable summer My first time was in Uk Everyone told me that Uk always cloudy and rain l bought my raincoat and umbrella but l should of bought my swimsuit I was shocked I came 5 june 1995 to Portsmouth until 5 september Everyday was 29-30 centigrade no cloudy no rain I thought l came to wrong country ( Miami) ))))))
I seem to remember July and August that year as being blue skies every day and hot , very hot and beautiful! In September I started a job and things have never been as good as that summer again. Oh well :(
We are well overdue a heatwave summer. In my lifetime the hot summers have been 1984, '89, '95 & '03. Some people rate '06 but that ended in the third week of July & was then very poor. The worst summers I recall have been 1987, '98, '07 and '12.
Agreed with bismark. That august in N.ireland of 95 has been unbeaten. I remember waking up day after day for a full month with clear deep blue skys and an intense sun. It was like some1 moved the med up north for a couple of months. Epic. Temps in N.I that august exceeded 80 degrees on many days.
It was a great summer - but it started at then end of June for start of Wimbledon and the weather stayed sunny and hot all through July and August most of September and part of October. Every day through August was blue sky
Never been a Summer like this! It used to be sunny in those days as well as hot! Not like these days with the endless bloody cloudy humid heat ( when we get it that is)! 😅
*I remember (I started counting after the second week) literally FIVE weeks of unbroken blue, sunny skies in Ireland (Well, in Dublin, anyway) and with temperatures in the latter 20's to 30 degrees. . Haven't seen a hint of that, since. It's back to WAY TOO MUCH rain and far too many dull, cloudy days, and before you know it, it's bloody autumn.* *Have to admit, I don't like too much heat, though...Up to early 20's is good enough for me ...bearable to work (indoors /outdoors) and even for walking / trekking on a day out. I find that any heat beyond the above temps just drains you.*
It's now nearly mid July 2022 and it's been scorching the last couple of days, especially in the North and South. Apparently it's going to be like this for the next 10 days or so. I think the temperature will go over 30 degrees in parts of London and the South. Who knows what August will bring... 😊
Messed up what happened to the UK summer of 2012. Here in the Midwest of USA we had the hottest summer in 78 years. I experienced 40 Celsius the first time in my life and I was 40 in 2012!
I was in the yellow area on the Yorkshire coast. The winter was the best though, starting on Xmas day 1ft fell that day and another foot the next at sea level
LOVE temperatures like these BUT.......that particular year i was working in a hugh CORREGATED METAL warehouse!. we were DYING in there!. The "Union" , if you could call them that, won us workers the the "LUXURY" of being permitted to stand outside the door for three minutes @ 3PM each day!. BIG FACKIN' DEAL!!.
Good weather back then...so how come the wind arrows go opposite way in the 90s eastly direction? An in 2013 on they come from west? Is this why we don't have good weather no more nice late hot summer nights??
Best summers: 1976, 1983, 1989, 1990, 1995, 2003 Well 2006 was generally warm or hot in June and July but quite a bit cooler in August however September and October that year were nice. Poorest summers: 1986, 1987, 1988, 1993, 1998, 2007 (which didn't really have a summer), 2008, 2012 (only August was warm last year)
Recent summers 2013 and 2014 have been decent but not remarkably hot, 2003 and 2006 being decent too. August always seems to be the most unremarkable month of the three in most summers, August 2013 being the best August so far in my experience. June 2016 is off to a good start, maybe I have spoken too soon.
2003 and 2006 have been in the 15 hottest summers since records began in 1659! July 2006 was the hottest month ever recorded. In 2003 temperatures got above 100F on two consecutive days.
+kdunstfan1 Yes the low 20's is a lot more bearable than the high 20's into the 30's. That's why I prefer the azores high in March, April, late September into October rather than in the height of summer because the temperatures can't get that high. Temperatures getting to a max of 17C or 18C dropping to 2C to 4C in April is bliss.
The jet stream controls our weather so you will need to accept what weather it gives It's strength is dictated by the very cold air over the Arctic and the very warm air in the Tropics
I disagree with 1986 being a poor summer, it didn't break any records, but it was dry and sunny most of the time, I remember there being a solid 3 week period between the end of June and into mid July where it was blue skies and sunny every day! And that was in Scotland! Summers of '89 and '90 were crap though, drizzle, grey skies and not particularly warm!

Since moving to the North West in 1994, I'd rate the summers as follows 95: Great 96: Not 95 vintage but pretty good 97: Ditto, some really good days in August 98: Disappointing 99: Slightly better, July was nice 00: Jekyll and hyde sort of summer, disappointing 01: Respectable 02: Ditto 03: Great, on par with 95 04: Promising start but fizzled out 05: Decent july 06: One insane week in july, otherwise respectable Disappointing since then. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to get a life... :(
Not dissimilar to this year weatherwise, but I remember summer 1995, it might have been hot and sunny but I found it to be particularly troublesome personally, it was a horrible year for me, mind you the next year was even worse!
I was in Devon for most of it it wasn't that good where I was 1996 was hot 1997 wasn't quite as hot 1998 was pretty hot 1999 was loudsey 2000 was hot in July and cold in August an then hot again in early September then 2001 was poor 2002 was hot thn it turned stormy and 2003 was without doubt the hottest summer I've ever known.
My favourite year for weather.

There doesn't need to be searing heat for it to be good weather. As long as it's clear, sunny and in the 20's C, it'll do.
