I’m not sure it’s about being resistant to another platform to start. I, personally anyway, feel that TikTok is simply for younger generations. Very few of my friends (between 28 and 40ish) use it. It’s not reluctance it’s just… I don’t wanna use it? For many reasons. And I don’t know much about your specific demographic but I reckon many of the people who follow you are around the same age/demographic and therefore just don’t want to use it. Don’t mean to speak for the masses but… it’s like you grow out and beyond things and that’s cool. We’re all different to how we were in our teens and early twenties and like different things. Of course, I know there are older people on TikTok btw, just speaking generally!
Yeh I totally get it. I feel the same. It is def majority younger, but I think there’s plenty of great content on there for my age (35) and up. Just wanted to share some tips on how to find that content!
As a 46 year old woman, TikTok just seems like a waste of time. If I do use social media, I'm looking for substance of some kind and you just won't find substance in a two minute video, no matter how cleverly done it is. It also feels very frenetic (probably because of the short time span they cover) and I'm really past frenetic at this stage in my life. I can appreciate the creativity it enables though, and I've talked to plenty of youngsters who are obsessed with it but this is one platform I'm just not going to bother with :)
Yeh I get it. It’s totally different to long form content like you get here on RUclips. I think they serve different purposes for different moods and types of content x
@@lilypebbles Totally... hence why I'm so grateful that you continue to put in the time and the effort to cater for everyone (especially putting Vlogmas up on Insta)! Very much appreciated 🤗
Thank you so much for talking so candidly about your period. My 12yo daughter started hers this year and the normalcy around talking about something we literally have every month is so helpful. She has so much taboo removed and even though she gets a bit eww-ish at times we have conversations that me and my mum wouldn't have dreamed of having. Its brilliant
I appreciate your TikTok tips, but the way you explained it just highlighted why I don't want to join. It sounds like so much extra work to have to manipulate an app or trick an algorithm into showing me what I want to see. I almost got fed up with Instagram for this reason, when all the recommended posts and ads starting showing up in my timeline. The "Following" function is what saved it for me, and I only spend time there and in the stories of people I follow. I follow specific people because I like their content, and that's what I want to see when I open the app. All that being said, thanks for uploading your Vlogmas TikToks to your stories, I'm enjoying seeing them there. :)
I’m not intimidated by the TikTok platform or navigating something new, I’m terrified who has access to my personal information. If the U.S. military is forbidden to use TikTok because it is considered a national threat, then I’m not about to touch TikTok with a thousand foot pole! I don’t need or want the CCP (who would like to destroy freedom and democracy) having access to personal information. It just seems unwise to me, but to each their own. I’m sure if some hacker wants information they can certainly get it, but I’m not about to open the door, invite them in, and offer up everything to them on a silver platter! 🤦🏻♀️ I’m also not a fan of the effect on children and that people are losing the length of their attention span from prolonged use. Plus I’ve heard there is an abundance of negativity in the comments. So many reasons to steer clear of TikTok. I really hate missing your vlogmas but certainly not enough to ignore all of the scary reasons to stay away from TikTok!
So interesting. I didn’t know about any of the personal info stuff so I’ll look into it. But i TOTALLY agree with the attention span. I think this is just social media in general. My kids aren’t even used to watching “normal” TV with adverts as they have everything on demand. It’s so strange. Everything in moderation i guess!
This is my main concern as well. Additionally, I teach media studies and were just starting to see some of the damaging mental and physical health side effects of TikTok. It feels unsafe for a variety of reasons. If I had kids, I would absolutely not let them have TikTok. I’m not resistant to new platforms, but I take my health and security seriously.
My employer doesn't allow TikTok on our phones (I use my corporate phone as my personal one - which is allowed by my employer), due to privacy and security concerns. I know lots of companies have the same policy for TikTok specifically.
I always had mixed feelings about colored lights, until last winter we had a deep freeze in New York and as I was walking the frosted branches were casting rainbow sparkles from the sun. It looked just like the colored Christmas lights, and now I’m a total convert. We have a mix of white and colored and every time I look at the tree I remember that gorgeous wintery scene ❄️🎄
I just wanted to say how much I'm enjoying your vlogmas on TikTok! I think it's the perfect platform for vlogmas because it's easier to keep up with shorter videos.
This is just lovely 🥳 Especially as the subtitles translates "Arket" to "Our cat" in "My friends get annoyed about how often I talk about our cat" 😂 Thanks for sharing ☺
I don’t have Tik Tok. I have been catching your Instagram stories though but I enjoy sitting down for a 10-20 minute escape from life. Really enjoy all your content and have followed for many years on Instagram and you tube x 💕😘👍
I used TikTok for quite a while but the whole app is designed to keep you scrolling which I think is just bad for the users. It’s different from Instagram or RUclips in that way, and studies have shown that use of the app is very bad for teenagers and their attention spans. Also the news about the data being used for shit makes me hesitant to use it. So I deleted the app. I get you’re in a time crunch, I just don’t like TikTok.
Yeh I agree. I def wouldn't want my kids using it. I think its ok if you're a responsible adult whose aware of how it works (hence me wanting to share tips on using it better)
@@lilypebbles I get it! But as a responsible adult myself (I’m 31) I disliked seeing my screentime shoot up like it did. I am sad that I’m missing your vlogmas though!
@@lilypebbles me too! Just a sugestion… maybe in the end of the month combine them all in here? I’m too old for tiktok, and really love your content! Totally understand and respect your reasons!! Just would love to watch them.
I have watched a couple of your vlogmas videos on tiktok. And the reason why it's not for me is it kinda feels rushed. I watch them to relax and enjoy me time alone in the evening. I prefer the longer ones mostly because of the sit down and chatting stuff.. It's my fave part. I feel the same way about YT shorts. 1 min videos will never be something I search for I think.
I know you said it's boring, and I wasn't one of the ones who asked about it or think about it, but I found your explanation for tiktok vlogmas really interesting, so don't think it's boring, some of us really like all the mechanics and behind the scenes stuff ☺️
Totally do the colored lights on the tree just for the kids as well 🙂 Let them decorate it themselves this year, and it was so hard to not interfere and rearrange things "perfectly"...but life is about enjoyment, not perfection.
Been absolutely LOVING the tiktok vlogmas, Lily! I loved youtube vlogmas back in the day but this it is so lovely I think tiktok is such a good platform for it. I like how much more natural it is for a voiceover and it makes me happy every day. I think you've really found your groove on tiketok. I don't have time anymore for a daily youtube video but i can still feel festive and calm with the tiktoks
Hey Lily 🤗 I am on TikTok and I believe I do follow you but because I tend to stay on the For You tab I don’t tend to see a lot of content from those I’m following. I think that’s the only problem with TiKTok you’re kind of just a number and it’s luck as to whether you see all of someone you are followings videos as you’re constantly being shown new content. Good to know about the algorithm that makes more sense now. I love that wool blanket and Grey’s advent calendar is super cute. Happy belated Birthday btw 🥳🎂 take care 🥰 xxx
Totally agree with the TikTok algorithm. I had to go off it for a good amount of time show me really sad content of death and sids and I was a new mum to my second baby and it really upset me I went off it for months and then I made a new account and just kept well away from that side of TikTok and I agree I’d never let my child on it but I do really love the platform you just have to be careful!
Lily, where is that mug from?? Also for the period panties, I would keep a stash of fresh ones in your downstairs powder room so once you grab Rudy you can pop in there to change. For the used ones you could try the bucket method or rinse them in your sink and then toss them in the washing machine.
Period knickers suggestion: get some cheaper pairs (primark do them too) and have some by your bed ready. Then you can swap into dry pants and maybe baby wipe to freshen up when you pop to the loo. I love my period pants!
To be honest I like that you’re sticking to regular videos. I’m probably a minority here but I don’t celebrate xmas and although in theory I like having more videos to watch, I skip the xmas content.
Hi lily....great content once again... packed full up of ideas....and presents...all your present ideas are good...just need budget ideas too.....we too do secret Santa... well we did last one ....lost our big sister in March..and none of us feel it's right as yet ..💔.. see you soon ...if not have a lovely and quality time with your family..... precious and priceless... In my 30's and love tiktok. Most used social media platform atm. Other than what my friends post on insta, I find it a very boring platform now. Tiktok makes me laugh (definitely trained my algorithm to keep me away from the dark side), I need that in my life!
Totally get doing Vlogmas on Tiktok. It's just not feasible otherwise when you have kids. IMO I think for many of us though, it's not a reluctance to try a new platform with Tiktok. I'm 35 and I have tried Tiktok multiple times - it's just not for me. I'm just not interested in content that short for the most part. And the shortness of the content means you really have to sit and watch - you can't really have it going while you cook dinner, for example, which doesn't appeal to me. I do like that some people I follow on Insta share Tiktoks they like onto Stories, so I still feel like I get a bit of a highlight reel of Tiktok that way.
Why can't you just keep wearing your period pants downstairs in the morning? My daughter now wears period pants all day and finds them really good. I also can't believe how long it took you to put up blinds in your kitchen given the orientation of the room - first thing I would've thought of, for privacy and keeping in heat too.
Lily how on earth are you managing to wear pale cashmere with 2 young kids because I swear I spend most of my time with toddler hand prints on my legs 😂
I believe some people use a 'wet bucket' for their period pants. Pop them in a bowl or bucket of water and it will soak the excess off and will mask any smell 🙂 then, when you're ready to wash them, they can all go in together!
