- From Wikipedia:
Western Airlines Flight 2605, nicknamed the "Night Owl", was an international scheduled passenger flight from Los Angeles, California, to Mexico City, Mexico. On October 31, 1979, at 5:42 a.m. CST (UTC−06:00), the McDonnell Douglas DC-10 operating the flight crashed at Mexico City International Airport in fog after landing on a runway that was closed for maintenance. Of the 89 people on board, 72 were killed, in addition to a maintenance worker who died when the plane struck his vehicle.
Flight 2605 remains the deadliest air accident to have occurred in Mexico City. The event is the third-deadliest aviation accident to occur on Mexican soil after the crashes of two Boeing 727s: the 1969 crash of Mexicana de Aviación Flight 704 and Mexicana de Aviación Flight 940 in 1986.[3] The crash was one of three fatal DC-10 accidents in 1979, having occurred just over five months after the crash of American Airlines Flight 191 at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport and less than a month before the crash of Air New Zealand Flight 901 on Mount Erebus in Antarctica.
Those screams are haunting. I wonder if it was terror, or if he was was injured by the initial collision.
Pretty sure it's terror. Imagine helplessly going towards the wall of a building real fast with a huge bank angle.
all that mass your riding on, rapidly approaching what’s literally your end. They couldn’t do anything in that split moment besides take in what’s happening. Poor guys.
Terror
That's the sound of the fear of God.
That's the sound of pure hysterical fear. Forget "being a man about it" that's the sound of someone crying out unfiltered in the last few seconds of their life KNOWING they are about to die.
"Charlie, Get it up!" You could feel and hear the pain in his voice.
0:21 - First Officer: Brace, Charlie!
Some people have speculated he's actually saying 'Thanks, Charlie.' It would be incredibly sarcastic and tragic if he did say this, essentially thanking the captain for ending their lives prematurely and the lives of all on board. Including the driver of the truck that was struck.
@@revokdaryl1 Long been dispelled as a myth. He literally says "Brace, Charlie".
@@codyking4848 If you really pay attention to the cvr you can hear "Thanks Charlie", because the F/O would not try to make his Captain brace after putting them on an air disaster.

Explanation:
The flight was cleared to land on runway 23R, but they accidentally we're on approach to 23L. They aborted landing and decided to climb to 8500ft, only to then strike a dump truck on the runway, which was actually closed. The plane banked left, as they tried to fight it. It eventually crashed into a building next to the airport. Of the 90 people onboard, 73 died on impact, one died in the hospital, 14 were injured and only 1 is alive today.
That one is very lucky, inshaallah everyone wo died is in jannah😢
How do you know that only one is left today?
@@r.g9044 He did an interview on CNN during the pandemic. CNN said he's the only one alive. Though these are very vague memories from then.

@@CCCH8382TF? It's the flight engineers fault? For what?! Saying that they needed to turn the aircraft left, when it was turning right? (Because of the damage)
Bro this scared me so bad. What’s makes this even more scary is the fact that one of the crew members said Charlie get it up. Rip to the 71 people who passed away on this flight and hopefully they are peacefully resting in the kingdom of heaven
The screaming are already giving chills but what makes this worse is that continuous noise in the background..
It’s the Engines
Its apart of the GPWS alarms of the plane i think
It's the engines
Those screams... so sad.. RIP
Honestly, hearing any man, women, child cry in fear hits me. I can’t imagine how scared everyone on the plane must be.
This CVR was first made public on ABC's 20/20 back in the mid 1980's. Tom Jerrel was the narrator and interviewer. It was the fault of Mexican air traffic control. They tried pinning the blame on the Western Airlines crew to the point where they were caught covering up important facts as to their culpability.
How was it air traffic control’s fault? They landed on the wrong runway
The runway was NOTAMd closed
@@charleskennedy1712They landed on the wrong runway because it still had its landing instruments active despite being under construction. The right runway didn’t have these instruments, but control still told them to use the instruments belonging to the wrong runway, assuming the pilots would catch on and land on the right one anyway.
They had a memo dated 2 weeks earlier indicating the runway change and the times. Pilots needed to read that memo again before taking off.
According to an interview I heard with a survivor, the airport would open the runway for a bit, let some planes land, close it to do some construction, re-open it. Just 18 minutes before this flight a Mexicana flight landed on the same runway. The air traffic controller cleared this flight to land on this runway. It was only after they were given the clearance to land on this runway that it was closed for construction.
Those are the screams of a man who sees his death barreling toward him. Chilling.
You can hear the fear in the captains voice, trying everything but failed when he says Jesus Charlie, you can hear the fear into the captain and their screams before it’s packed that was terrifying

Should never have been made public imo, regardless of how fascinating it is. Imagine knowing that your father/husband/brother spent his last moments hysterical with terror, and knowing that everyone else knew it too.
Censor this and censor that for privacy, for the greater good blah blah blah, this is a common excuse for people like Adolf Hitler. The mindset of these people who push for more censorship is hypocritical compassion leading to humanity being insulated from reality. Death is ugly, but it is also a reminder the frailty of humanity.

I've just learned that the NTSB has made it illegal to release any actual CVR recordings and that what most people are hearing are reproductions. I'm surprised this one has not yet been 'pulled' from social media like the American Eagle 4184 CVR recording. That one was real but is no longer to be found anywhere.
It's disturbing and sad😢
Fun fact: The main cause of this was because of a huge fog that was surrounding the enirety of Mexico City (weather basically), also the pilots were a little irresponsible for not realizing that the track they aligned to was in mantainance.
The fog was so heavy that they thought they were on the right track until they saw it close up
the run ways are parallel mistakes happen like this
Why this background sound?
Damn that was tragic as fuck

no jokes about everyone dying
From God damn to Jesus Christ.
wow…
the " side step" thing should have been discussed between the tower and crew but even still, language barriers play a big part. Today, when I fly into Benito Juarez in CDMX from Houston I always fly Aeromexico. I DO not fly one of Mexico's budget friendly airlines and I damn sure ain't sitting in the passenger cabin while an english speaking crew man's the cockpit of a US carrier no matter the price of the ticket. I want both ends speaking in native language, complete with nuances / slang and or anything they slip and use. A static mic, clouds, haze, smog, and someone accustom to stating a fact but ending the sentence with "no?" example: tower "you have the runway in site, no". When you land speaking the kings english you can ask the taxi driver to stop at a good sidewalk shop for a pork taco, he will take you for taco pastor and it goes on and on.
Whilst this is so sad and darn well haunting I have always wondered what the last words were after Jesus christ and just before impact.
Flew on a Western Airlines DC10 from London Gatwick to Denver in 1981, it was a great experience at the time as always wanted to fly on one. Such a pleasant flight and great service from what I can remember and even got the names of the flight crew and cabin crew in my autograph book.
Is this reconstructed? Rip 🙏
