Mine did that from a prairie dog bite. Dad said, "just reach down real quick and get him by the scruff of his neck like a cat." I did, got him...but prairie dogs can spin their entire heads around inside the loose skin of their necks. I learned later you're supposed to grab prairie dogs by their tails and hold them at arms length. Finger still hasn't straightened out. And I still have his teeth marks scar.
