Went to visit some friends in LA (I'm from the UK), and was genuinely baffled when they found roadside parking, and one of them had to get out the car and start running up and down the pavement. I asked wtf they were doing and they were like "oh, you have to double check all the road signs because they sneak them in and if you don't happen to abide by all 20 signs strewn along this mile long fucking road, you get ticketed". Lo and behold, when i got out the car, I saw one lamppost with about 4 signs on it saying the most contrasting shit like "no parking sat-sun" "parking only 12pm to 5pm" "park 9am saturday max 1hr" "no parking over 30mins" "thursday only 2hrs 9pm". need a fuckin math degree just to work that shit out.
No joke! Don't know if it's like this now, but when taking driver's Ed in CA., one must learn to drive in residential, mountain, and freeway areas. They ought give a separate part of the class called.... Things you need to know when driving in L.A. signs signs signs parking meters pay parking lots.... Random folks pretending to work there taking people's money, 😬 most don't fall for it but tourists beware. (subsection what to do when rain occurs in L.A., titled NEVER FUCKIN EVER FUCKIN EVER if you value your life).
Born and raised in Los Angeles. Had to finally leave because it’s just gotten so crazy. It used to be such an amazing place to live. I just love the memories now. ❤
I've lived here my entire life too. Granted, it went a bit south during the pandemic I'll admit, but it feels better than ever to me now. They really cleaned up a lot of it.
First time I left LA I went to Stockton (it was heaven) but I eventually came back because I was already indoctrinated 🤣 Out of Cali periodt now but I have great memories too 😢
LA was the shit when Laguna Beach was out, Jhene Aiko had just came up as a solo artist, OddFuture/Wolf gang was a thing and anytime before then. Thats what I imagine LA to be in its purest/wholesome form (if thats a thing)… those were the main drivers for me wanting to move out there. I went to visit not long ago and its a bunch of plastic transplants with the sole purpose of ‘making it’, the sky was so gloomy- nothing like how I’ve always saw it to be, there is a weird and eery vibe out there that I never got before… I think LA was great up until 2011. Then it changed, but so did the rest of the world. 🤷🏽♀️ Glad I was able to live vicariously through some of the tv shows and artist that came up in that golden area.
LA was quite amazing - so much to do; great farmer’s market; incredibly delicious fruits and veggies; the best restaurants, hole in the walls and food vendors, the library system is exceptional. Seasonal weather with very little rain (not lately) and cool crisp ness a jacket nights and early mornings.
Alan I just came across this cool as man and I've been wondering why he's often in the bathroom. Lol. It might be the only place where he can get any privacy though, or no reason at all. 😊
I have a friend who works in LA. She was so excited about coming in overnight for stuff bcuz it cut her commute from 3hours to 40min. I live outside L.A. and everything he’s saying is 100% true. I Went to a concert in LA. Had to look up directions for the concert venue and separately look up directions to a parking structure. Because they are nowhere near each other. The only thing worse than LA drivers is LA drivers in the rain.
I used to dream of LA and think it was some magical place…… until I went there. Once you see a fleet of million dollar cars driving past a gaggle of homeless people with tents on the sidewalk is kinda traumatizing lol
And I personally feel like the weather is a lie! It is false advertising lol. Because I fly in and out of LA constantly from Seattle and tell me why the weather in Seattle is usually better than when I land in LA!!! It is constantly smoggy and there's a marine layer and pollution and it's gray and dull and icky looking and just ugh! I don't understand like where this myth of LA being sunny and beautiful came from. Now somewhere like San Diego yes that's always sunny when I go there but Los Angeles, especially around the airport, is gross
@@chenanigansI’ve lived in LA for two or three years and have visited family in LA for five or six years. I think you’re just unlucky with the weather because it’s sunny quite often here lol.
@@yekcyrmalkiyahmusic If you're seriously asking, just on a quick look at Google the McLaren Speedtail, the Ferrari F620, the Porsche 918 Spyder, Aston Martin Valkyrie....
As someone from the LA area (the suburbs and the valleys) I can say this 100 percent true. Caveats -- LA isn't really muggy per se, especially in the coastal parts and in the valleys. Some parts might be somewhat humid, but it's a lot better than say Florida. My hometown is a dry heat and it's lovely except on days when it's like 100 degrees. All the rest is very true. In its defense of the last point, Los Angeles is the hub of the entertainment industry. It's the place to be an actor/entertainment person just like Silicon Valley is the place to be a tech industry person. Each one of those industries is a multi-billion dollar industry, so it makes sense people congregate there. But as a lifetime local, it is kinda annoying haha mostly because that makes the whole place a weird mishmash of people from other states who think they're too good/special for their home state.
I'm glad you said that. I was about to say, if he thinks the humidity is bad there, then he needs to see what real humidity is anywhere in the south. Humidity is at least 50% of our blood.
Nope I follow all the rules and even don't take my turn when it's my right of way cuz I know LA drivers are crazy and I STILL have so many close calls. 😭 and I don't have a car so I have to bike if public transit is coming later than I'd need. I always stick to biking lanes but drivers NEVER take into consideration the biking lanes.
It’s so weird seeing him in long form content. But yes as a person who travels through Downtown LA mostly, it’s hectic and people are impatient with their driving.
As an Aussie living in LA, I have to absofuckinglutely agree with that assessment. Top 5 things wrong with LA people 1.) Entitlement 2.) Not world Savvy; You have no idea how many times I had corrected people who think Arnold Schwarzenegger is from Australia? Austria and Australia are two different countries in opposite locations in the world. 3.) Incredibly superficial narcissists. 4.) No patience 5.) Everyone only wants to be friends with you if they can get something. Going back to Australia in the next recession. I work in the Tech industry for a cybersecurity firm but to most people in LA, I am like a geek squad person. o.0 WTF!
Trust me when I say that L.A is a horrible place to visit to anyone outside or inside the US next to it is new York state. I'd recommend any other place other than a Democrat held police state city
As I sit here listening to this, I'm realizing that you're basically describing every major city in the country(at least that I've been to). They all have shitty weather, they all have good food(if only for the sheer number of restaurants available - you're bound to find a good one), they all have severe left turn issues, etc. Makes me glad I live in the suburbs, although my state is boxed in by both Philadelphia and New York so vehicle tags are a good way to tell who to keep your distance from on the road.
@@Lady_G007FACTS I'm from LA living in NYC & the difference is in LA you HAVE to KNOW how to drive cause if you DON'T the police gonna take your car straight to the impound & it's gonna cost you da big bucks to get it out on top of that ticket
This dude has the most genuine chill old person vibe. And the funny part is that I don't think he's more than 5 years older than me 😅. Anyway, I can say I can argue that I'm in the same situation as you, Jordan and listeners, but with USA as a country. A lot of generations born and raised in the 90s and early 2000s in my country, or at least in my buble of older friends and family have the misconception that if you live in USA you're someone but there are shootings, different culture that as an European is hard to believe exists sometimes or is hard to adapt and compared to the expenses at the end it's not as different from what can you achieve.
The secret to making left turns in L.A. is to get out in the middle of the intersection and literally wait for the light to turn red, and *as soon* as the last car in the oncoming lane stops you bust that lefty. It's the only way.
Yeah most of the time to turn left, you roll into the middle of the intersection and wait. As long as you're within the "box" of the crosswalks you can't get a ticket if you turn on red. People also get annoyed if you don't do that, cuz you have pleny of time, waiting for oncoming traffic to clear, to prep for a turn.
As someone who grew up in CA and moved to another state, this is one thing that should be taught more often. I'm not trying to wait another light cycle because you won't go into the intersection, Nancy.
This! If you don't do this then YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM! YOU are the reason traffic gets so backed up to turn left at certain intersections. If you don't have the ball to just get out there and GO when the light turns red, then hire an Uber. But stop driving in LA and screwing up the commutes of the people who actually live there and have to deal with tourists like you.
Look. I didn't even get 10 seconds in before writing a comment. As an LA native, that opening line was spot on. From here on out, I don't care about what you say. It'll just be accurate.
Dude the world seriously needs more people like you in it, ALOT more people like you in it…. That’s just a simple fact now. It’s ok to be wrong sometimes and receive some honest constructive criticism every now and again, but If any true fool dares have the audacity to tell you otherwise, they’re lying and they’re everything that’s wrong with the world. Because your something that I sadly see rarely in person these days… an honest sane person who just wants things to be better than they actually are. I think you’re helping a lot of people, I really appreciate the videos you make man, you rock.
Jordan, I absolutely love you! You hit the bullseye on this one. I am an east coast transplant living in LA. The drivers here are really bad, and have zero patience on top of that! This is why traffic is so bad. We also outgrown the road infrastructure, hence why you will die to oncoming traffic when trying to make a left-hand turn at a light. The law here states that 2 cars can make a left when the light is Yellow and transitioning to red. But guess what, the @$$hole in the BMW in the oncoming traffic just ran the red light and ***THEY ALWAYS WILL***, so now the cross traffic only sees you as the bad driver becuse they can't move until you're out of the way and they are honking at you! But you did nothing wrong! I have decades and more miles of professional driving under my belt, than he average guy, plus ZERO accidents! The one good thing is, the drives are so bad, you can anticipate their next move because they all do the thing.
Amen, brother! I moved to West Hollywood in 2000 and I hated Los Angeles so much that I moved back home to Hawaiʻi in 2001! The only positive of living in LA was that it was the first time in my life that I was living somewhere that allowed me to save money since living in LA is cheaper. Don't believe me? Currently the MEDIAN HOME PRICE in Hawai'i is ≈ $1.1 MILLION! A gallon of milk is $8, and a dozen eggs are $6...oh, and we officially have the most expensive gas prices in the USA too. Hehe. Good times! But I'd rather be broke, barefoot, and happy in paradise than be rich, miserable, and depressed in LA! 😄 Jordan, you really need to come to Honolulu one day! Lotsa love & aloha from Honolulu to you & your entire ohana! 😁🤙🏾 ♥️🌈☀️ (Hawai’i symbols)
Not from LA but I lived there for a couple of years. I was a public menace when it came to left turns. I'd sit in the middle of the intersection until everybody stopped and let me go. 😂😂😂
People from LA are moving to my state like ants to a Picnic and left turn honking before the arrow even turns green.. they just honk in the Left lane regardless if it’s clear or not
LA is like 7-10 different municipalities that are spread out so far. one parking spot could have 15 different parking times. What do you think about " West coast people are Nice but not Kind and East coast people are Kind but not Nice"
Your last statement in regards to West = Nice and East = Kind are 100% true. You get a flat in Cali, people will stop and will tell you, "Sorry, man, that sucks... I wish you the best". In the East (particularly in the South), people might stop and help you out, but will make comments like, "Wtf, your parents never taught you how to change your tires?? What's wrong with you, why are your tires so bald? Are you insane? Here, lemme help you out", and they'll help you get on your way. They might point out the shortcomings, but try teaching you along the way. Your results obviously will vary. West Coast folks seem more tactful when you talk to them, and they're generally going to be pretty friendly upon approach. East Coast folks are mostly going to be quite a bit more blunt and perhaps rough around the edges, but they genuinely mean well, and do care about providing an aura of hospitality. Again, your results will vary.
Put it this way, people in NY will let you know if you fucking up. It’s better than someone being kind on the outside then talk shit behind your back inside or suppressing their anger and converting it to something else to get back at you.
I spent 2 weeks in LA for a poorly planned university study tour, first week was touristy stuff and the second was classes at LAFS (which is where the planning fell apart - long story short they sent us halfway across the world for orientation week at a school we weren't enrolling in). To sum up the experience, on our first day we were all wondering if the plural of Spiderman is Spidermen or Spidermans because two guys hustling for tourists pics dressed as Spiderman got into a fistfight on Holywood Boulevard right in front of us. That was my introduction to LA.
Because it was so badly planned the unit we did back home for it was basically just a write-off so we could get a credit. Got me out of having to write a thesis.
So you didn't get a real LA experience. That's the Hollywood experience. I graduated from LAFS/LARS and the area is not the best. Hollywood(the neighborhood, cuz its not a real city) is trash
As a white guy from across the country a couple hours outside of the other major city I believe you when you say the food is unmatched. You’re probably right, and it’s probably great and overpriced. But I bet that food in those gritty parts hits fierce. Like, if I have to worry about my safety walking to a joint I know that foods gonna slap.
Idk about dirty but some of the most legendary burger joints were in areas that I would not recommend my Caucasian friends visit unless they want both the police and the gang bangers suspicious as hell.
Most of them are no frills no bs spots and that’s what I love. All this instagrammy friendly restaurants with led light decor with some cheesy phrase bs can F off.
It would be fantastic, were it not for the way the city is built or rather, evolved. It's a giant sprawl with things being all over the place, no real center. There are buses and trains in L.A. but I don't think they're very efficient to really get where you want to go.
@@GoddessPallasAthena It developed the way it did due to intentional policy and zoning laws, often written to prioritize cars over pedestrian traffic. Change the policies, you change the way the city will build.
@@raherc3330 Actually, if you build more walkable mixed use cities you don't _have_ to raise taxes to raise municipal tax revenue. For example excessively large parking lots are essentially wastes of space and also tax revenue black holes, costing the city more in infrastructure upkeep (like replacing gas lines and electrical lines) than they receive in tax revenue. Furthermore the economic benefits of having a robust public transit network cannot be understated, that's why freeways and highways were built in the first place. We just need to focus more attention and care to pedestrian infrastructure, which includes passenger rail and buses, instead of focusing solely on cars.
As for wearing trashy clothes, I will never forget seeing a display of kicks in a very expensive bourgeois store, that were “pre-destructed.” Also, all the rich people there wear t-shirt and jeans anyway, because that’s what you wear in the film industry.
Lived in LA for 3 years...hated humidity, walked to work and makeup would slide off in a block and face was gritty...was pregnant while there, craved Italian, and there was a 24 hours Italian restaurant, run by an Asian family..STILL the BEST Italian food I have had...ALL the freshest ingredients!
I remember Anthony Bourdain did a show about one Japanese restaurant that was owned by a Chinese woman and the main chef was a man from Mexico. Mr. Bourdain took the chef to his home town in Mexico to see his family whom he hasn't seen over 10 years after he moved to the US. Of course, they did a show about the feast the family cooked up for their visiting son.
In the UK, and I think the rest of Europe we have systems called park and ride... And these are carparks on the outskirts of town centres that people can park up their car, and jump on a shuttle service (usually bus, but sometimes light rail or subway) to go into town.
I live 25 min outside of LA and idk about that humidity take lol. There is not enough rain for humidity lol. Just pure scorching heat. That traffic take was spot on and nobody drives inside the lines!
I love LA, but I've had some trippy experiences too. One time, my Uber took 39 minutes to go 3 miles to my friends spot...the traffic can be real. I don't think parking is too bad only because it's waaay worse in SF (from the Bay Area), but certain places like downtown SUCKS. And the homeless people out there...real life zombieland, walking up to your car at the lights. The strangest experience I had was when I was with my sister and 2 friends (I was the only guy) and we're on Melrose. And a Mexican was across from us with a rolled up news paper SMACKED my face hard as fuck. I turned around and yelled "wussup?!" and he kept it pushing, but people out there are weiiiird. Also, when I finally reached my friend after Ubering, we're driving down Inglewood and he see's his friend on the ground getting arrested with 10 cop cars surrounding the gas station. But he just brushed it off cuz it's regular
I remember when I used to be a truck driver and having to go to LA. We would never stop to get gas in LA. We would always make sure to stop in Arizona to get gas. It was a $2-$3 difference. That’s a lot for a semi. We would pay anywhere from $1000-$1500 for diesel. Now just think of what would have happened if we put gas from LA. 3 years ago, diesel was $300-$600 at most to fill up the truck. It would be a lot more worth it to drive from Michigan to Kentucky, and do that run 3 to 5 times a week. Diesel is cheaper, less stress from not having to deal with the hills in NewMexico or the ridiculously small unloading areas from LA. It was literally the size of the whole semi. The whole space that I had to somehow turn and dock the trailer. Still managed it though. After like half an hour. And driving through LA with a semi is a nightmare. The streets are so small, that I would have to stay in the middle lane in order to be able to turn right into a street. And I would have to enter that street on the coming lane. So I would have to wait for the people from that street to move over. Thankfully, people were nice and they would back up so that I can enter. And one thing that I made sure I had right was turning technique. The moment I turn and I am parallel with the curb on the left side, I straighten my wheels and go straight along the side of the crosswalk. That way I would not hit the side of the building with the trailer. After I see the end of the trailer passing the corner of the street entry, I start making my way back into my lane. Very stressful time. Also the fact that I would literally have to go through a border just like I would have to do while going to Canada. California is its own country. They expect to be accepted by everyone, but have the strictest requirements for people trying to get in. And also the last thing. The tandem location requirement. The tandem is basically the rear wheel axels of a trailer. They move. It is like that in order for us to be able to move them closer to the middle of the trailer when backing up, and then moving them all the way back when we back up straight into the dock. That way we can make the turn more easily, and the people that load the semi are able to load it without damaging their equipment while entering the trailer. California has a strict location for where the tandems should be. I think it was something like, at the 8th hole. That’s where the pins should be. And it doesn’t sound that bad. But it’s actually worse for the trailer. It is better for the roads though. But the trailer wears faster.
Damn LA sounds like nightmare. Btw little tip when you are turning left on the intersection when there is oncoming traffic: Go to the middle of the intersection, blinker on, turn slightly to the left so you are ready to go. Now when the light turns red for the oncoming traffic there is like few second delay until the light turns green for the traffic at your right and left side so in that window you can make it.
Born & raised in LA. We are called the Land of fruit & nuts. 🤣 I love LA. Even with the smog. At sunset the smog gives a pink sunset over the ocean & area. The parking is ridiculous I give you that. That is why I take the blue line or red line trains. You can park your car at a line station and take the train. Or sometimes I just park in a garage or gas station. Not all people are in show business. But I do enjoy seeing filming of a sitcom show. I like the central market and going up angels flight when it was working. Then to see the water fountains at the top is amazing and relaxing. The nights are beautiful. You have entertainment, places to eat. The Griffith observatory is amazing to look out at the vast land day or night to look at the stars in the sky. LA is in the center of most places of interest. It's close to the water like San Pedro & Santa Monica. Then it is close to the mountains like Big bear. It also has a forest area. We have a nice zoo. We are near museums. The Central Library has awesome exhibits most of the time. It's huge. They even have a dining area. You have cultural diversity. We are very close to Disneyland 😊
Well, said.I, too, was born and raised in .L.A. I've had to move away for school, work, etc, a few times but I always come back. There's no place like home.
I love this. It absolutely reminds me of myself, a Detroiter, talking about Chicago. Pretty much the same exact feelings! Much love to Jordan Howlett on his simple, yet amazingly insightful and entertaining videos; catharsis for my angsty savage soul.
Here's a tip for unprotected lefts in LA: always get into the intersection like you're taking a normal left turn. If you're at the front of the left turn line, you _must_ go during your cycle, even if you have to run a red to turn. You will get honked at if you don't. If an opening doesn't present itself until the light changes, wait until traffic is clear and go. Don't be surprised if 1-2 cars behind you piggyback on your move. Don't be surprised if you get honked at for not piggybacking on someone else. As another general tip: Google Maps will frequently tell you to take a left onto a 5 lane main road from a stop sign. Don't do it unless you're familiar with the area or traffic is obviously clear. Simple as that, but very hard to get used to. Once you know the etiquette, lefts may take longer than you expect, but nobody has to die. No, it's not a good system. No, I don't like it.
From LA and can confirm this is mostly accurate so I'm in therapy. Also I'm not in show biz but there's a part of me that has always believed I'd be famous if I really tried 🤣
I’ll do you better, NY is better than LA and Chicago. Not Florida because it’s cheaper and we northerners who abandoned the northern states tend to be in Florida a lot.
I like how he has to occasionally interrupt himself mid-sentence to pivot, like in his mind he's going "We can't do that right now, gotta keep it goin... too many other things." Sometimes you just gotta jar some up for later.
This is fantastic 😂 By the way, I’m Irish and it sounds like you’re explaining my country, some people just shouldn’t be allowed to hold a driving licence.
Ireland is my favorite country! But I did have a horrible experience stuck in a parking garage in Galway for 30 minutes, people drive insane in the more dense touristy areas 😅.
Talking about L.A. traffic just made my blood pressure go up. 🤦♀️ I worked in LA county for 20 years. Every day I didn’t know if it would take me 45 minutes to get to work or 1 hour and 45 minutes. The hospital I worked at would turn on the news if one of us was late just to see if we were likely stuck in traffic. (Car accident on the 405 or someone trying to kill themselves, etc) Geez, it gave me PTSD! 😖😉
As far as the driving goes, try going to India if you really want your mind blown. Spent a month in India back in 2020 and the roads were absolutely bedlam. You have a 4 lane road with 6 lines of traffic that are constantly beeping and weaving together. Once I stopped freaking out about the near misses I honestly impressed. Obviously, always pay for a driver. Don’t try to drive it.
Jordan you’re amazing! I can relate to all of your video’s and shorts, you explain everything so well and also make it funny! I wouldnt be able to express these topics any better ever 😅. Love your videos and shorts man, dont stop making them please! Keep going! 😊
My biggest gripe about LA is the layout. Totally too spread out and car dependent. No good public transit. Does not feel like a unified city, and it is not walkable at all. It really makes you appreciate how walkable/public transit friendly NYC is. Also, LA does not feel "cozy" at all, probably because of how big and spread out it is.
LA is like a 3rd world country. Lived there for 8 years, even met my husband there. You wouldnt believe how much better our quality of life is now that we left. I genuinely feel sorry for people who are stuck there. As bad as traffic is, traffic is honestly not even top 10 worst things about that place.
Except that California politics is so corrupt that would never happen. They have road tax on registration and gas and the roads are 2 seconds from dirt roads and have more pot holes than dirt roads. I mean they're constantly working on the freeways and it's the same.
Parking is like that in Seattle, too, but there's a _reason_ : They want to _discourage_ people driving private cars, and encourage taking public transit. Because... as you said in point 5: SMOG. Ten, twenty, thirty people in one bus or train is a lot less smog inducing than ten, twenty, thirty cars. Take the train. Take the bus. They go right where you need to be. No parking cost, no parking hassle, and it helps reduce the smog.
I feel your frustration. I'm not just saying that I agree with what you are saying, but I can feeeeel the frustration exuding from your pores and can relate.
You know you’re from LA when you measure distance in time it’ll take to get there instead of miles. Your destination might only be 10 miles away but you know at that hour it’s going to take 45 minutes at a minimum lol. I think we’ve either accepted it or we’re masochists
As a screenwriter that's been trying to make it in Chicago and knows a lot of LA people I beg to differ on not having to move there. As an actor you can maybe swing it but as a writer or producer you basically have no choice
Actors who do not want to live in LA are gonna need to have MONEY if they want to work in film and television, because they will need to regularly visit LA for auditions. Not as much filming is done here anymore, but auditions? Networking? "Doing lunch" and all of that? It still all happens here.
Having flashback of living in South Korea. Took us 30 minutes to get to a “Starbucks” in a city. Took us 4 hours to get back home. We never went again.
I have not watched this video yet. Honestly I found you on the RUclips shorts list and that is where I see all of your content that I see... if that makes sense. I just for the first time saw one of your longer videos (like 8 min ish). Let me just say you are top three content creators on RUclips in my opinion. PLEASE keep doing what you do cause it’s freaking awesome. And if you have any haters (and I’m sure you do. Anyone doing anything worth doing have haters) just know that they are one of the many ways to know what you are doing is valid. Just wanted to tell you that if you ever see this . Stay up man
Growing up on the sixties and seventies LA was beautiful no traffic no homelessness , people were friendly . Now it’s unrecognizable. Except for Beverly hill, Bel Air, palisades, Malibu, Santa Monica hills, Palos Verdes.
I'm from Portland it's not even that bad.people here are just uptight liberal hipster babies and they want to buy their fair trade coffees and gluten free donuts without seeing something that's not aesthetically pleasing. If we put beanies, new flannels and vans on all the homeless they wouldn't mind as much lol
I've lived in LA my whole life and don't particularly love it but I must have become a professional because I know how to do all these already and haven't gotten into a bad accident thank God.
Just found you at random: you should do a travelogue "[City] is the worst place on earth". If you can match this passion for other cities like Seattle, Chicago or Atlanta (my son lives there), I think you may have something. Anyone who doesn't live in California thinks California sucks for a whole host of reasons, Come visit Indiana. I'd say it's the opposite of CA for all the wrong reasons (tongue firmly planted in cheek). Seriously, though. i think this type of content might be entertaining and informative as you grow your channel. But hell, what do i know, I'm just a hick from Corn and Soybean Central
I want nothing to do with L.A.! What a terrible place. I've known people who have moved there, and moved back home within a year or 2. and have said they didn't meet one genuine person there. Not 1 actual friend. They've said it feels like a entire different country. That there's a lot of trashiness in some tourist areas, and other places it's like they can almost sense that you're not local, and you're looked down upon. I do not like the celebrity status. Its ridiculous. I could care less about the Kardashian/Jenners, the absurd red carpet events, the financial flashing "look at my Lambo and my house full of everything designer". I think it's gross. I despise the entire industry. I would be happy to set the Hollywood sign ablaze and have it pushed down the hill while I laugh like Dr Evil. I enjoy seeing that more and more people are seeing right through the industry's BS these days.
It took me about five years to adjust to Los Angeles after moving here from the East Coast. After that, I’m able to say that there are genuine people here, but it does take extra legwork to find them. I figured that was largely because I was an adult instead of being a child in school who is selecting friends from who is available around me. However, when you move here from somewhere else, it takes some doing to find your tribe. It also takes patience, because you have to allow for yourself to adjust to a new culture and way of doing things. That takes a good bit of time. You really have to do that first before you have any chance of finding any friends.
Class division is really real out here. I think it's less that people can tell that you are not from there as much as you are not "presenting" as their economic class. If you don't shop at the same places and wear the same hairstyles they get nervous that they're showing their power level to a has-not. Always be suspicious of "locals only" culture out here as well. Us locals know that tends to be a dog whistle for racially segregated affluent neighborhoods. Also I find it funny that because we have celebrities, people think we obsess over them. We don't talk about celebrities and if you have money you don't talk about it. I see lambos very rarely, but Audis, hummers, and those big Mercedes vans are pretty common. Some of the wealthiest people will drive the same old beater they've been driving for 20 years. The glitz and glam and overpriced food is for foreigners. The locals have their favorite speakeasies and low key restaurants that rarely raise their prices because old money doesn't like raised prices. What we think is isn't the same as what is real...
I remember going to LA a few years ago and needless to say, the food sucks ass because If I knew that I wasn’t going to be friends with anybody in Cali, at least good food will comfort me. All I could think of was food back home and haven’t had one dish that highlighted my LA trip, besides the delicious taco trucks and in n out. Everything else, trash.
@@TheWutangclan1995 if you come back I highly recommend checking out our Korean and Japanese food. There are a ton of really nice pizza places as well and some famous (but pricey) Jewish delis. Last night for the first time I tried Chinese bbq in DTLA. There's a little charcoal pit on your table and you cook the skewers right at the table. Super delicious, but also $70 for two people. Not bad, we ate pounds of meat. We're oddly famous for our pizza as well, which I didn't realize until I was an adult. Idk if you can get these things other places, but you can get tandoori and gyros and even bulgogi on your pizza out here. There's all different kinds of pizza as well, you've got the hardcore purists that get their wheat imported so it tastes like it does on the east coast, you have food trucks that are just a brick oven. It really depends on where and how you look.
@@TheWutangclan1995 There are so many food places out here that I feel you just didn’t go to more of the best places. Here in L.A., the culture is all about trying different food spots.

It's always been garbage.
I went to visit not long ago and its a bunch of plastic transplants with the sole purpose of ‘making it’, the sky was so gloomy- nothing like how I’ve always saw it to be, there is a weird and eery vibe out there that I never got before…
I think LA was great up until 2011. Then it changed, but so did the rest of the world. 🤷🏽♀️
Glad I was able to live vicariously through some of the tv shows and artist that came up in that golden area.

To me it depends on what part of LA. I lived close to Hermosa Beach and loved it.
Haha accurate. Loved "mish mash of people who think they're too good for their home state"

I'm glad you said that. I was about to say, if he thinks the humidity is bad there, then he needs to see what real humidity is anywhere in the south. Humidity is at least 50% of our blood.
It's not normally humid here at all - Los Angeles is built on a desert.

True. But bikes and scooters run stop signs and drive on the opposite side of the road against traffic. They get hit all the time.
Nope I follow all the rules and even don't take my turn when it's my right of way cuz I know LA drivers are crazy and I STILL have so many close calls. 😭 and I don't have a car so I have to bike if public transit is coming later than I'd need.
Same here in Chicago haha
yes, roll as far ahead a possible, so cars behind you can do that also. OR better yet, just don't do left turns lol.

LA is like 7-10 different municipalities that are spread out so far. one parking spot could have 15 different parking times.
What do you think about " West coast people are Nice but not Kind and East coast people are Kind but not Nice"
The best summary!
100% facts. New Yorker here, we'll tell you to f u c k off while also helping you shovel your car out if the snow.

Avoid american metropolitan cities, understood.

Sounds like all L.A. needs is a robust and reliable public transportation system for locals to free up the road for commuters/visitors
It would be fantastic, were it not for the way the city is built or rather, evolved. It's a giant sprawl with things being all over the place, no real center. There are buses and trains in L.A. but I don't think they're very efficient to really get where you want to go.
@@GoddessPallasAthena
It developed the way it did due to intentional policy and zoning laws, often written to prioritize cars over pedestrian traffic. Change the policies, you change the way the city will build.
Yeah! Your right😂 so more taxes lol😅
TRUE but UNFORTUNATELY the MTA drivers DON'T actually have to DRIVE to get PAID
@@raherc3330
Actually, if you build more walkable mixed use cities you don't _have_ to raise taxes to raise municipal tax revenue.

So your rigs ran on gas and diesel? 😅 christ i cant stand when people say gas when they mean diesel!
Weird that he didn’t know this, this is for literally every big city if you don’t want to wait for an extra light.
Born & raised in LA. We are called the Land of fruit & nuts. 🤣 I love LA. Even with the smog. At sunset the smog gives a pink sunset over the ocean & area. The parking is ridiculous I give you that. I love this. It absolutely reminds me of myself, a Detroiter, talking about Chicago. Pretty much the same exact feelings! Much love to Jordan Howlett on his simple, yet amazingly insightful and entertaining videos; catharsis for my angsty savage soul.
Come visit Atlanta! We’ve got the humidity and traffic and bad drivers of LA buuut cheaper gas prices and less actors! Plus food is good here too!
atlanta is ghetto
Atlanta kinda sucks.
@@vir123456 ok remove the kinda and you would be correct
@@vir123456 yeah every time I’ve been to Atlanta, the vibe was just always off
But just a Visit. Atl is #8 in overpopulated. Like 4.1 Billion people!
You can squeeze up to two cars between the first car and the crosswalk. Everyone acts like this is brain surgery.
2:16 - 2:30 is so Hilariously TRUE 🤣🤣, it's the WORST, also same in Manhattan, NYC. It's all a ploy to drain pockets✅💥
From LA and can confirm this is mostly accurate so I'm in therapy. Also I'm not in show biz but there's a part of me that has always believed I'd be famous if I really tried 🤣
As someone who's lived in LA, Chicago, and Orlando, I have to say, Florida is worse but everything you said was accurate
Florida is better than HelLA or Shitcago
@@randomcommenter395 L take
I’ll do you better, NY is better than LA and Chicago. Not Florida because it’s cheaper and we northerners who abandoned the northern states tend to be in Florida a lot.
Kentucky is bad too
Florida? Florida isn’t bad at all just bad drivers that do whatever they want. But the street themselves work perfectly.
If people not from LA would stop coming to LA, and staying in LA, there might be a chance that these issues would go away
EXACTLY
I like how he has to occasionally interrupt himself mid-sentence to pivot, like in his mind he's going "We can't do that right now, gotta keep it goin... too many other things." Sometimes you just gotta jar some up for later.
'Put 5 aside for me' I love it. I hate places where they judge you completely by what you wear.
This is fantastic 😂
By the way, I’m Irish and it sounds like you’re explaining my country, some people just shouldn’t be allowed to hold a driving licence.
Keep going! 😊
As person who was born and currently lives LA I can confirm this
My biggest gripe about LA is the layout. Totally too spread out and car dependent. No good public transit. Does not feel like a unified city, and it is not walkable at all. It really makes you appreciate how walkable/public transit friendly NYC is. Also, LA does not feel "cozy" at all, probably because of how big and spread out it is.
finding your videos was the best thing i did in a while. youre so funny and can always put a smile on someones face. love it!!
LA is like a 3rd world country. Lived there for 8 years, even met my husband there. You wouldnt believe how much better our quality of life is now that we left. I genuinely feel sorry for people who are stuck there. As bad as traffic is, traffic is honestly not even top 10 worst things about that place.
I like how half of these problems could be solved with basic public transportation and tram reform.
Except that California politics is so corrupt that would never happen. They have road tax on registration and gas and the roads are 2 seconds from dirt roads and have more pot holes than dirt roads. I mean they're constantly working on the freeways and it's the same.
We got busses and trains
You have never been to LA then. It’s is sooooooo large and sprawling the bus and metro take HOURS!! Hours!!
@@marstonfobbsentertainment not enough. Also they are poorly maintained.
@@room2growrose623 They can make an underground subway…
That fifth one about LA people really got me 🤣
I live in a city where 3.59 is an expensive gas price, hearing 8 dollars almost killed me
Hey, I’ve been watching you on TikTok forever, and I just wanted to say you’re really funny.
True, but they should add more buses to the routes, especially on weekends...
Jordan, with the way your voice sounds, I really do think you could make it as a narrator. Someone needs to hire you to do the voice for audiobooks.
East coaster who lived in southern California for 7 years... he's not wrong.
With the exception of gas prices and inauthentic people he just described NY.
Having flashback of living in South Korea. Took us 30 minutes to get to a “Starbucks” in a city. Took us 4 hours to get back home. We never went again.
Born and raised in Los Angeles. Worst thing about LA are all the transplants
Also, come down to South Gate/Whittier/Bellflower or the smaller cities for cheaper gas.
Costco is waaaaay cheaper..
Stay up man
bro really pulled out 'imbecilic" mid sentence and immediately sounded much smarter than a majority of LA folk.
This man really said "imbecilic" so damn smooth
I love how you use your intelligence when roasting like I didn’t even know imbecilic was a fucking word until today.
All of the driving problems can be boiled down to poor city design and lack of practical public transit/sidewalks/ bike lines.
Bro. This dude is perfect.
Growing up on the sixties and seventies LA was beautiful no traffic no homelessness , people were friendly . Now it’s unrecognizable. Except for Beverly hill, Bel Air, palisades, Malibu, Santa Monica hills, Palos Verdes.
followed from Tik Tok, you're too funny my guy 😂
My man has a very clear opinion on Los Angeles
oh damn I didn't know you made longer videos. nice.
You forgot to mention the insane growth of homeless people everywhere. Especially Skid Row.
You better do Florida as a whole!! lol
We don't have 12 hours to discuss everything wrong with Florida
As someone who lives in la, all of these don’t seem like problems
People always say that Portland Oregon is the worst city, but we’re nothing compared to la-
I'm from Portland it's not even that bad.people here are just uptight liberal hipster babies and they want to buy their fair trade coffees and gluten free donuts without seeing something that's not aesthetically pleasing.
If we put beanies, new flannels and vans on all the homeless they wouldn't mind as much lol
"put 5 aside I be back later" jaja😂😂😂😂
I've lived in LA my whole life and don't particularly love it but I must have become a professional because I know how to do all these already and haven't gotten into a bad accident thank God.
You forgot the approximately 70-75% chance a massive earthquake will hit California in the next 30 years or so.
But hell, what do i know, I'm just a hick from Corn and Soybean Central
if anyone goes to Rodeo go at 9-10 pm during Christmas time its wonderful to look around and there’s no one there so u can go with ur friends
There are homeless people everywhere. The traffic is horrible. The smog is unbearable. Hollywood stars is disgusting. List goes on. 🤷🏽♀️
