As far as I remember , last year, as parents, we were clearly told that PSS was NOT a ATAR school. And we need to get extra support if we are planning on getting our kids to sit for ATAR in Sinhala.
I understand that PSS does a great service in giving our culture to the kids in Australia and I greatly appreciate it. And my kids loved all the workshops etc. But I don’t feel that it’s good to promote ATAR like this until there’s a proper plan to support students from the primary stage to sit for it. Language for ATAR requires a lot of skill and it’s hard to achieve it in year 10-12 straight away if that’s not focused in the primary or at least from year 5 onwards.some kids have the extra support so they might do it good. But for kids who can’t have it at home, I am not sure…
But thanks so much for your great work on getting our culture to our kids . Wish PSS all the best in the future.

Dear Thilini, thank you for the comment you have provided here as a parent. I am not sure about the comment that you have made here. In the information session that we had for which you also attended as a parent, it was clearly mentioned that PSS is offering Sinhalese language as an ATAR subject and for which this year (2022) also 12 students sat as school candidates through school. Please note that we cannot interfere with scaling and it is beyond PSS control and therefore parents and students can have mixed feelings. It is parents' and students' choice to decide whether they want to make their students enrolled in Sinhalese language ATAR or not. Perth Sinhala School syllabuses are prepared focusing on ATAR Sinhala and textbooks are focusing on the required syllabuses and aspects and as a School it is our duty to share success stories and promoting Sinahalese language and culture for the students who are motivated to do it. As parents you have the full freedom to decide whether or not your child want to do the subject or not. Even if your child does not want to do ATAR Sinhala still they can continue classes as it is a choice to be made. If you have further more concerns please contact Year 12 Class Teacher Dilhani Kapu Arachchilage (principalperthsinhalaschool@gmail.com).
